Wish I Loved Closer
Love this place. Fun layout to play. Challenging and usually pretty well kept! Wish I lived closer, but I have to play thedeal times for it to make sense for me. Main issue here is the players. They do NOT FIX THEIR DIVOTS and it really gets on my nerves. Divot tools are cheap and it takes 10 seconds to do....way more disrespectful than not placing sand in the fairway divots....to anybody who plays this course reading this....DO BETTER!!!!
Needs some work.
The fairways have been attacked by some sort of fungus or who knows what the problem is, very bad condition. The greens are inundated with many divots that the golfers do not repair while playing their ball. This course has promise but needs much more attention paid to it. I won’t be coming back this year for sure.
Needs Work
Only reason I played was because I got a discounted rate for $60 with a cart. For this price the course was worth it but if paying full price there are several others nearby that offer better conditions.
No GPS on carts.
Several fairways were in bad shape= water damaged or disease.
Current Clubhouse is a construction trailer. New clubhouse expected to be complete in 2027.
Not worth the money
This is the worst condition I’ve seen this course. Tee boxes were not only burnt but mostly weeds. Fairways were burnt and a majority had a lot of dead areas like I’ve never seen there.
On a positive note this is the friendliest staff I’ve experienced there.
For the price play somewhere else.
Course needs TLC
This year the course isn’t as nice a the past few years after previous course renovations. Fairways and greens aren’t as good as they use to be. Lot of diseased area in the greens and fairways. Greens were not as fast or rolled as years past.
Course is having a renovation for a new clubhouse. Trailer is now used for temporary clubhouse, and the carts are located a few hundred yards away from drop off area and parking lot, which needs to be improved for my convenience for players.
My guess is that there’s a new superintendent or management is cutting costs for clubhouse renovations.
Was 100 degrees on the course and no beverage cart in the morning, and no water available on the course, Beverage cart arrived as we were putting on 18th. Course could’ve made a killing on drinks.
Club needs to take a good brain storming on how to better please the customer’s. Not worth paying $70 plus at the moment..
Good value, no bunkers
The price and the challenging layout make this a good value. No bunkers after renovation a number of years ago probably helps pace of play and their overhead costs. Can’t say I missed not having them.
Need to get the clubhouse built!
Staff were friendly and helpful. Would play here again for sure.
If you like long holes…
They are currently without a clubhouse so things are a little bit weird. 14 of 18 holes are long holes, so lots of driving and fairway work. Holes are challenging.
Disappointed
This was a frustrating round. There are several issues with this course.
1-No water on the course
2-They provide a cart girl but she was rude and wouldn’t provide ice
3-Layout of the trailer and having to walk all the way back down to the trailer for water and ice on the turn was very inconvenient
4-Have to purchase something just to get a cup of ice
5-Greens are slow and not well taken care of
Crownsville MD Golf
Good golf course. Challenging from all tees and the conditions were good., Well maintained. I think the staff there is friendly, and there are a number of places nearby to grab dinner after your round. Good job Ed! Looking forward to the new clubhouse.
Lacking Amentities during the remodel
Course played nice and the staff were friendly. However, during the renovation, you could not buy any real food, not even hot dogs. Didn't see cart lady until 17th hole, and she didn't even have candy bars on the cart. Just frustrating. Also, silly rule about no carts in the parking lot, why does that matter. So when you are done, you leave your cart near front of barn and carry your stuff through the cart return area, where carts are being cleaned. Total bizarre set up. .
Let's See if They Can Keep it Up
First - the redesign is awesome.
But I worry that they're not maintaining it to the level that will get the most out of the redesign.
Rough is very patchy and uneven in many spots on the course. The result is that your ball ends up lodged behind big tufts of thick stuff. Not very playable.
Greens were in good shape, but running a little slow. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, as it had rained hard the day prior.
Conditions not great.
They had several greens punched but did not properly fill the holes with sand. Trying to put on those greens was not even worth trying. The ball would just bounce around looking for an aeration hole to settle in. Rough was very rough. If you hit it in the rough, good luck finding it. That being said fairways were in okay shape. A little soggy but it’s been raining pretty hard here.
Course damaged
3 holes were damaged by vandals and were under repair. Temp greens were set up in the fairways just prior to the actual greens. Discounts were offered to players who arranged tee times directly with the course. But since I booked mine on Golfnow, no discount was offered. No drinking water on course either. Overall, course is convenient but not in good shape right now.
Conditions were an absolute disaster.
So a few days before this round they had ATV riders destroy the greens of 3 holes. I fully expected that and have to specify that this review has nothing to do with it.
The weather the week going into this round was high 60s - mid 70s and sunny. Nothing crazy.
I’m not even kidding when I say I don’t think the grass has been watered in a week. The fairways & rough had huge patches of brown. The fairway of the 11th was just dirt. No grass. The greens were ROCK HARD. I had an 8 iron into the 10th. Perfect high flight with a bit of cut spin on it. The ball hit the front edge and bounced like it had landed on the cart path. Skipped to the middle of the green and rolled all the way off the back while going uphill. Had a pitching wedge into the 16th and it was the same thing. High flight, landed dead center before an uphill slope and got a huge bounce and rolled all the way off the back.
This course is about 45 minutes from me, played here once before this and can genuinely say I don’t think I’d go back. Especially when they’re charging $80+ on the weekends
