Black Rock Golf Course
About
Black Rock Golf Course may be one of western Maryland's newest courses but it's located near some of the country's most historic sites. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are just a few minutes away from this scenic course. The opening holes of the layout are tucked into the Shenandoah Valley while the back nine climbs uphill, offering views that stretch across the Appalachian Mountains. The golf course has plenty of holes that will please long hitters, but mature trees and thick rough frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy. Traps protect the front of most of the greens and you'll come across dramatic undulations on some. The par-4 13th is arguably Black Rock's toughest hole. This sharp dogleg right has a massive tree to the right as well as a pond right in front of the green.

first time playing Black Rock
Overall I enjoyed playing at Black Rock. the course was nice and green. I'm new to golf so i don't like a ton of hazards as I learn the game. No ponds to hit across for par 3's. maybe one water hazard on the 18 holes. what I wish they would improve on is having ball washers and trash cans at every hole. I like to pick up trash as I go since I was an eagle scout. gives me something to do when we are waiting to tee off.. or waiting to approach the green because we are behind someone. we had to wait a little bit. I like finding balls while I wait. would be nice to have the ball washer actually on the cart so you don't have to worry about stopping.
Love this course
Very open course.
Pace of play was slow. We were waiting a little on almost every hole.
No water
Played on a Sunday and was told there would be a beverage cart around. It was 90 degrees outside and no beverage cart showed up all round. Was told the person called out for the 2nd day in a row. You’d think they’d have a backup person to drive a cart out. Or how about water coolers along the course somewhere would be helpful!
Great Course
Very good course for a challenge but also player friendly. New or Experienced golfers would like the course. Staff are also very friendly and helpful, good choice of food and drink available. I enjoyed playing at this course.
Friendliness
Felt harassed during our time on the course. Staff complained about “holding up pace of play” because we had a 5some. Even after we called the day before the schedule a tee time the agreed to have us bring 5 people. Got stalked our entire back 9 by the unbearable so called golf ranger. Amazing course layout and overall great play. But the ranger and staff seamed to have a huge ego and control issues. We not recommend going to this course if you want to play casually because you will be harassed for even laughing out there.
Love the shotgun start!
Its the time of year they do a shotgun start which keeps thimgs moving. Friendly staff and course in great condition. Always enjoy a round here.
Fun Outinh
I was bringing a friend to introduce her this course. It was a beautiful day. Surprisingly, the course is not busy. Overall, the course is in good condition. Some of tee boxes could be better. They should have moved the tee boxes away from the worn out (covered with divots) area. My friend is very happy with the golf course.
Greens too slow
It like putting on the fairway. It was so hard to get use to it. I’ve never played on a course with that slow of a green. You hit a good putt and it just stops! Will not come back, nice layout otherwise.
Always a Favorite
Black Rock is about 1 hr 15 min drive, so we drive out to Hagerstown only twice a year. It's always a pleasure to play this course. It's a laid-back atmosphere and the layout is interesting and a nice mix of risk-reward holes. No hole is the same. They punched the greens on Monday, but warned us when we booked the tee time. They gave a discount on the greens fees, and by Saturday it wasn't too bad--slow, but certainly playable. The bunkers were more dirt than sand, and it looks like they are either planning to do some repair on select bunkers or they are going to let them grow in--they were roped off. The staff is always welcoming and pleasant and it's just a nice, friendly course to play.
