Golfer Reviews
Great Course
The course is well laid out and well maintained. I signed up as a single and joined three great guys at the first hole and had a great time. Unfortunately, the pace was very slow. We finished 30+ minutes over pace.
Hidden Gem North of Frederick
What Maple Run may lack in world class amenities, they more than make up for in value and charm. The course is also in significantly better condition than one would expect for a $35 green fee. The last two times I’ve played here they’ve started me off the tenth hole which I would say makes the most sense for the flow of the course. I much prefer finishing on a reachable par 5 than a mid-long par 3. I also really like the multitude of birdie opportunities on this course. Two drivable par 4s and 3 of the 4 par 5s can be hit in two for a player capable of hitting the ball 260 off the tee. So happy I’ve found maple run this summer, I will continue to play here if this is the experience they are providing.
Good greens, perhaps a few too many weeds, older carts, but with a gps system...
I had fun... but, there were some problems I had with the course. Their gps system will lock your cart... and there are instances where you just crossed the threshold and if you don't immediately notice and remove the cart from the prohibited section, the system locks your cart... which then prevents you from moving your cart. So there I am pushing my cart into the area where it should unlock the cart... but it didn't. I didn't go deep into the prohibited section... I'm talking 2 feet in... and I didn't notice. The carts are also older gas carts... and that first gear really felt like it was trying to give me whiplash. It's fine... and I suppose it is better than the carts that feel like they are having to do a full stretch before finally going...
Some of the doglegs were at 90 degrees... and I suppose that is fine... but not my preference. There was straw along certain areas... but they are trying to recover from summer... so I am not going to have issue with maintenance... but... did it feel like I lost a ball or two that should have been found.
All in all... it's a fine course... My buddy lives in gaithersburg... and I live in central pa... so it is a good option for the two of us to meet in the middle, so I'll likely play it again.
No rain in sight
Checked in at the Clubhouse.
Paid your money to go out and play. Once out there you get out on the fairway and your cart cuts off
You look up on the monitor and it says cart path only we are playing with 4 guys. 2 are over 80 years old. And no one tells you, it's cart path only until you get out on the course.. Unbelievable granite, now it's 83°.
At 9:40 in the morning. You go back in and say something to the clerk inside andhe says, well, I'm not the owner you need to take that up with the owner.. bad business. I will no longer be playing there. Thank you mabel run
Course saving money
This is not a bad course, but. We played their two thursdays in a row. Both times that we play there, they did not tell us that it was cart. Path only we out on the course. And when you drive on the greens, the cart will cut off, then you will see something that says cart path only. Granite now 85 degrees the first thursday we play and 90 the second Thursday that we played.. I don't mind cart path only, but when I live in the area and I know there's no rain. Why are you doing cart path only to save money on you're gasoline or your electricity that you use on your carts, i don't know, but it's very frustring because if I wanted to walk, I would have paid to walk . The fairways are so hard that you can roller skate on them, but they make you walk. I play with a group of sixteen players and that is the last time that we will participate in playing at this golf course.
Know if you were playing with my drone.
Has Potential
I was a bit disappointed with this course due to ground maintenance actively cutting the grass during our round. It was very distracting. I've never experienced that before. Golf cart was very "jumpy" and aggravated my lower back pain. There were some challenging holes and the course layout was decent overall.
Maple Run
Many improvements to this course. Fairways and rough were in good condition, greens were smooth pin placements were tough, lots of side hill placements.
Front 9 is wide open, back 9 has more nature and tree lines. Course is a good choice for beginners or high handicaps.
Only problem/ complaint, the course does not have any water stations. Be sure to pack your own water, the clubhouse has been improved very much but I was shocked there was not 1 water jug on the course
Pam is a Rock Star!
I played this course previously and was honestly unimpressed. The course is nice and straightforward well maintained but the vibe was lacking. I like to give everything a second chance and boy am I glad I did. I don’t think I’ve meet a nicer person in the entire time I’ve lived in this area. Pam was kind, funny, informative and just an absolute delight to be around. She set an amazing tone for a round of golf and honestly was floored by her kindness to my kids. I’ll definitely come back and make this my home course just to say hi to my new friend. Pace of play was great there were a lot of families golfing that night and I have a feeling they all came to see Pam!
squeezed in golf between rain storms
I think they were taking the time to do maintenance on the course since there were several rain storms day before and that day. digging going on around several holes on the course.only couple of us die hards were playing. others didn't want to risk getting rained on.
Fair...
Overall, not a bad course a solid 3/5j Heard lots of great things but it all felt just average. Greens are really well maintained but does not really measure up to the other course available to you in and around Frederick. Not bad at all just did not meet expectations.
