Black Rock Golf Course
About
Black Rock Golf Course may be one of western Maryland's newest courses but it's located near some of the country's most historic sites. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are just a few minutes away from this scenic course. The opening holes of the layout are tucked into the Shenandoah Valley while the back nine climbs uphill, offering views that stretch across the Appalachian Mountains. The golf course has plenty of holes that will please long hitters, but mature trees and thick rough frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy. Traps protect the front of most of the greens and you'll come across dramatic undulations on some. The par-4 13th is arguably Black Rock's toughest hole. This sharp dogleg right has a massive tree to the right as well as a pond right in front of the green.

The course was in great shape. The only bad thing was the pace of play. They had tons of rangers out but they were just watching everyone play, not making anyone go faster or having people play through.
Starting To Show Wear and Tear
I really like the layout of this course with it's variety of hole shapes. It's about an hour and 10 minutes from me, but for the most part worth the drive. The good news is that the price is really good...$53/player on a Saturday, and Military was $25! Thanks for recognizing our Military & Veterans. The fairways were in good shape--not great--but good, except for #18. The majority of that fairway was just hard pan dirt. Staff told us that they haven't had rain in a month, and it definitely shows with the rough browning out, the tee boxes lumpy and spots with no grass, and the bunkers were mostly just crusty hard dirt. The greens were in excellent condition though, but the pins were in horrid spots...they were having their Club Championship, so moved a lot of flag sticks close to the edges. There was no marshal, and the round was very slow...we waited on every hole, every shot; and we had a twosome behind us that didn't know course etiquette and kept driving up behind us when we were teeing off! There was no one pushing them--they were just rude (or maybe inexperienced)...they should have just lagged back a little until we were off the tee boxes. I'm going to wait until the Fall to drive back up--maybe it will be in better condition by then.
Black Rock review
Too many bunkers and some kept in very poor condition. The grass was also very dry
Beautiful
Well-maintained and fun course with some challenging holes
First time
First time here and I will be coking back. Good bang for the buck. The course has a great layout and they do not par 3 you to death which is great. Just wish I played better lol.
Just not a fan
Better courses for similar rates in the area imo. Definitely worth the extra drive to play somewhere nicee. High, bumpy and unlevel teeboxes.
Well maintained and beautiful!
Played here on 6/14/2020. Course was in great condition. Greens were as green as they could be. Pace of play was just under 4 hours. Clubhouse was following all rules and very friendly staff. Will play here many more times!
Excellent Course
I played this course about 8 years ago, when it was private, and while it blew me away back then, even though it is now a public course, Black Rock blew me away again. Amazingly maintained, challenging holes and some interesting green movement make this a must play in the Western MD/South-Central PA area. Will definitely play again.
Slow
Did not finish as group in front would not let us play through. When you have one in the group that is struggling you should let the group behind go through. First hole eleven shots to get to the green?
Love this course but not today,
Great conditions
Course is in great shape, everyone maintained proper distancing. Was a good time.
Impressive
My first time playing Black Rock. Went with a buddy who frequents the course- glad I did because I’d have gotten lost a few times... until he explained just keep the cart going straight when paths intersect. Until then I was a little lost.
The course is in fantastic shape for a government run course! I was very impressed with the maintenance level of care it receives.
They have a make shift driving range too which is nice.
Very friendly gentlemen running the shop too.
I’ll be back
