Black Rock Golf Course
About
Black Rock Golf Course may be one of western Maryland's newest courses but it's located near some of the country's most historic sites. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are just a few minutes away from this scenic course. The opening holes of the layout are tucked into the Shenandoah Valley while the back nine climbs uphill, offering views that stretch across the Appalachian Mountains. The golf course has plenty of holes that will please long hitters, but mature trees and thick rough frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy. Traps protect the front of most of the greens and you'll come across dramatic undulations on some. The par-4 13th is arguably Black Rock's toughest hole. This sharp dogleg right has a massive tree to the right as well as a pond right in front of the green.

Beautiful conditions..
Went out for the second time this spring and had very enjoyable round. Went out as a single but was able to get paired up with some others. The course was in great condition for early spring. Fairways and greens where great considering weather. Enjoyable outing! Staff great!
Nice Layout- especially for a Muni
It's early spring, and this was my first time playing the course. Considering the poor weather this winter, the course was in good shape and had nice elevation changes and multiple shot types needed. Tee boxes and fairways were in very good condition. Bunkers need attention, but were fine considering the weather they have endured. The greens were quite slow, but with dormant grass, that was also to be expected.
great winter conditions
drove down from johnstown pa 2 hors. well worth the drive. course was in great shape for december, will return again as soon as weather permits.
Beautiful course with water shots and amazing views of the mountains.
Really enjoyed the views and the course was wonderful. Very well maintained, interesting holes with well placed sand traps (got me a few times) and water shots. Love having to hit over water and around it. Beautiful course. Can't wait to play it again. Wish I had played it in Oct. to see the colors on the leaves and views of mountains with colors. I will next year!
Great mountian course
Beautiful golf corse.greens were fast with a lot of slope.tough pin placement is a three putt.layout is nice, wide open on most holes.this course is a must play! You will enjoy,as long as you stay below the hole.
This course will have you coming back over and over many time just to play it
The fairways are in very good shape and well taken care of by the maintenance crew. The greens are also well taken care of. The staft is very friendly, and the food there is also very good with low prices.
This is a challenging course.
Nice course with good features. Greens still had some bumps from recent aeration but was still quite fast.
Very nice municipal course.
This course is well maintained, has interesting terrain, and possesses great risk/reward opportunities. Black Rock is a good place to walk and enjoy nature. It's definitely work the drive to Hagerstown.
Great greens
Course was in very good shape. Greens were running true and were above average in speed. Took longer than expected, but enjoyed the day in spite of the slow play.
Very nice muni!
The course was in excellent shape and the staff was extremely nice. It's a little short (didn't really need a driver on 7 of the first 9 holes) but it is laid out well. The landscape is rolling hills and very pretty. Our tee time was delayed because of an early tournament running long so they treated us to lunch which was a very nice and un-necessary gesture. I will definitley play there again!
Good local public course
fairways and greens are always kept in great condition. Bunkers sadly need work and lots of sand. This is the only problem with the course.
Course was kept up very well
Tee boxes were in great shape. The greens were as equal in good shape.
Nice course - lots of hills
Very hilly course with a lot of blind shots. Course was in good shape for this late in the season. Greens played very fast.
Fun course to play
Day we played was spotty rain, so course was not crowded. Course is prepping for a tournament so it was in great condition.
Course was in great shape
Black Rock is in great shape. The rough is a little on the thick side but other than that, great experience.
Small greens, excellent staff, very interesting course layout
We had a great day for playing here with low humidity, 80's and just a bit of wind. The course is quite varied and you will need every club in the bag. It is generally quite a short course with under 500 yard par 5's (we played white tees) and 4's in the 320 to 350 range. The front is short, with sharpish doglegs and requiring accuracy but not length. I hit few drivers off the tees. The back is more open and the driver gets some use. On most holes you must either hit the fairway, or miss on the correct side or you can be blocked out. Very interesting for a shotmaker with some risk reward holes where a driver can get you close to the green, or in big trouble. I thoroughly enjoyed the round and the price I paid was exceptional!
Friendly staff, well maintained...
I'm not sure I would have played here without the GolfNow discounted greens free - it's expensive - but the course was well maintained and played pretty straight forward. The greens were pretty true on a 93 degree dry, sunny day.
The course was in excellent condition and the greens were fast
I would recommend this course to a friend but the pace of play is a little slow. This course makes you play smart because of dog legs and angles into the green.
Beautiful Course!
This is the first time I have played this course so I didn't know what to expect. However, I was very impressed with the layout and the condition of this course. The staff were friendly and helpful. The course itself is beautifully maintained and, while fairly open, it has plenty of challenges. I will definitely play this course again and I will also recommend it to my friends. Two thumbs up!
Worth the Trip
Drove an hour out of Leesburg, VA to play Blackrock at full price on a Saturday morning. Got of early but was stuck behind a group who wasn't in ANY kind of rush. With nothing to rush home for, beautiful weather and a course in great shape, the slow pace of play was not much of a bother. The greens looked like they should have rolled faster than they really did and several blind shots coupled with an oblivious group in front of us made it extremely challenging not to fit into the group in front. Some parascopes or "all clear bells" would be helpful on those holes. We will be back, 100% certain of that.
