Black Rock Golf Course
About
Black Rock Golf Course may be one of western Maryland's newest courses but it's located near some of the country's most historic sites. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are just a few minutes away from this scenic course. The opening holes of the layout are tucked into the Shenandoah Valley while the back nine climbs uphill, offering views that stretch across the Appalachian Mountains. The golf course has plenty of holes that will please long hitters, but mature trees and thick rough frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy. Traps protect the front of most of the greens and you'll come across dramatic undulations on some. The par-4 13th is arguably Black Rock's toughest hole. This sharp dogleg right has a massive tree to the right as well as a pond right in front of the green.

Course was in great shape
Black Rock is in great shape. The rough is a little on the thick side but other than that, great experience.
Small greens, excellent staff, very interesting course layout
We had a great day for playing here with low humidity, 80's and just a bit of wind. The course is quite varied and you will need every club in the bag. It is generally quite a short course with under 500 yard par 5's (we played white tees) and 4's in the 320 to 350 range. The front is short, with sharpish doglegs and requiring accuracy but not length. I hit few drivers off the tees. The back is more open and the driver gets some use. On most holes you must either hit the fairway, or miss on the correct side or you can be blocked out. Very interesting for a shotmaker with some risk reward holes where a driver can get you close to the green, or in big trouble. I thoroughly enjoyed the round and the price I paid was exceptional!
Friendly staff, well maintained...
I'm not sure I would have played here without the GolfNow discounted greens free - it's expensive - but the course was well maintained and played pretty straight forward. The greens were pretty true on a 93 degree dry, sunny day.
The course was in excellent condition and the greens were fast
I would recommend this course to a friend but the pace of play is a little slow. This course makes you play smart because of dog legs and angles into the green.
Beautiful Course!
This is the first time I have played this course so I didn't know what to expect. However, I was very impressed with the layout and the condition of this course. The staff were friendly and helpful. The course itself is beautifully maintained and, while fairly open, it has plenty of challenges. I will definitely play this course again and I will also recommend it to my friends. Two thumbs up!
Worth the Trip
Drove an hour out of Leesburg, VA to play Blackrock at full price on a Saturday morning. Got of early but was stuck behind a group who wasn't in ANY kind of rush. With nothing to rush home for, beautiful weather and a course in great shape, the slow pace of play was not much of a bother. The greens looked like they should have rolled faster than they really did and several blind shots coupled with an oblivious group in front of us made it extremely challenging not to fit into the group in front. Some parascopes or "all clear bells" would be helpful on those holes. We will be back, 100% certain of that.
The course layout is great.
Thecourse is always in good shape. Well maintained. The staff is excellent.
If you like golf at a great course...
Black Rock is one of a very small handful of courses in Maryland that is a combination of great price (GolgNow), great course layout, great course condition. Don't miss the chance to play this almost hidden treasure - we drove over 60 miles to get there and it was well worth it.
Beautiful course!
My guy and I played here mid-April 2013 - absolutely beautiful course, lush green grass, immaculate greens. Was a very windy day (maybe it's always windy there - it's on a hill!) We both carded our average, and very much enjoyed the day. Will be back, I am sure!
Only odd things was no golf carts allowed in the parking lot - so bring your gear to the clubhouse.
Great Greens...
Greens were in great condition. Fairways were "a bit shaggy" but not bad.
THE COURSE DOES HAVE ALOT OF DIFFERENT TYPE HOLES SO YOU WILL USE ALOT OF YOUR CLUBS.
I'VE PLAYED HERE BEFORE ALWAYS LIKED THE COURSE BUT THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN AFFORD TO PLAY IT REGULAR PRICE IS TO HIGH.
Great course- good rates
I've played Black Rock several times. It's a great course and a great deal. On this particular outing there had been a lot of rain the day before so there was lots of sand on greens to help soak up the water. Aside from that- any other time I've been out there it's been in great shape.
great layout
greens not like they are in season but 36.00 with cart winter rate cant be beat. greens fast during season.
Poor service, poor course management lead to poor experience
We did not arrive late but were treated poorly from the second we walked in the pro shop to check in for our round. We were told that no carts were available, they were extremely backed-up due to early frost and over-booking for the day, and that we must pair up with another twosome. We patiently waited for a cart, paired up with another twosome and then found the course populated by singles in carts, not paried up with anyone. We did not get remotely close to finishing our round before darkness set in.
Very nice hilly course with a nice amount of water.
Very nice course with a few blind shots due to the hilly nature of the course! Greens rolled true and fast with plenty of break to make for a challenging test for your putter. 3 or 4 hole had big dog legs where your tee shot needed to be on the right side of the fairway to have a shot at the green..
Very nice par 3's and I am looking forward to playing this course again.
Overal l- Good price to play in good temperature
The greens were aerated last week but they were putt-able. That course is one of the 10 courses that I will continue playing in the future.
