Black Rock Golf Course
About
Black Rock Golf Course may be one of western Maryland's newest courses but it's located near some of the country's most historic sites. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are just a few minutes away from this scenic course. The opening holes of the layout are tucked into the Shenandoah Valley while the back nine climbs uphill, offering views that stretch across the Appalachian Mountains. The golf course has plenty of holes that will please long hitters, but mature trees and thick rough frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy. Traps protect the front of most of the greens and you'll come across dramatic undulations on some. The par-4 13th is arguably Black Rock's toughest hole. This sharp dogleg right has a massive tree to the right as well as a pond right in front of the green.

Typical Municipal Course
Course in decent shape. Range is in really bad condition with grass 4 to 6 inches long.
Very enjoyable, quick round.
I play this course weekly.
Nice, scenic course with a wide variety of challenging holes. Course is in good condition.
Price was excellent and speed of play was very fast.
Nice club house amenities, and very friendly staff.
It was a real pleasure to play.

Unfriendly
We've played this course quite a few times (only when we have pricing specials) and we have never encountered a friendly person at the snack bar. The lady this particular day acted like we were bothering her. We simply got the special but we did not get friendly, welcoming service.
Also we do enjoy this course and would play it a lot more if it were affordable. This is the county municipal course and it is certainly not priced as such.
Early Golf
The Course was in good condition for just opening for the season. The layout of the course is fair and challenging. We enjoyed the course.
Nice round
Very nice round of golf. Great price and play was quick. Course in good shape. Fun round.
A MUST PLAY!
This course has a great layout and was in excellent condition for November. I traveled from Pittsburgh to meet family and play. I would play this course on a regular basis if living in the area. I'll be back.
Player
Course was great. The
Tee times were as scheduled. The pace of play was under 4 hours
First time - liked it
Played on Sunday which was rather cold and windy, but the course was in good shape. This is the first time I played it. This is a course that you can shoot pretty well on, but it does have some challenges. Playing in a twosome, we played in 3 hours which was great.
Nice course
Very well maintained course. Greens can be a bit tricky, they don't break like you think they will. Golfed here several times and will be back again.
Gorgeous views
Black Rock is a fairly difficult course set in a very picturesque setting. It is in Hagerstown valley with views of the mountain ranges to the East and West. The course follows the natural lay of the land using the contours to add to the beauty and protection of the holes.
Friendly
The course is usually in good shape. Staff is friendly.
Convenient to interstate and far enough from Washington Area to be reasonably priced.
Mr
Great lay out and in very good shape this time of year.
I would play this track again.
sunday morning, but wheres the staff ?
i enjoyed my sunday at black rock, even though most of the rocks there are grey. a bit of a bad start, but ended up being a good time. first they wont let u take the carts into the parking lot for some reason, so i had to lug my bag to the "driving range " which the normal maybe 5 person tee spaces were closed, so we had to hit from a rough non mowed area in front, which was very slanted. there was no marshal or starter, so it took a while to find the driving range, or the 1st tee. but after we got going, it was smooth sailing. greens were good, many blind tee shots, but i feel good that if i go back i can play well.
Excellent value
I have played this course 4 or 5 times this year and the course is always in excellent condition. The course has a nice variety of holes and some interesting elevation changes. Beware of number 13, it is a difficult par 5 dogleg right with a lot tree trouble, water, and a green that slopes severely.
This course is always fun to play and usually moves pretty well, although I don't know about weekends in the summer.
attendees at pro shop and snack bar
Gentleman at the pro shop with very little personality voiced his opinion about Golfnow and how they did not make any money when Golfnow customers used the course, saying that we were getting free golf! The young lady at the snack bar with no personality who worked Wednesdays only and drove the refreshment cart on weekends had no idea what customer service is. My group got the impression she really didn't want to be behind the counter. We ordered hamburgers and she just was not able to find the hamburg. "C'mon Man"
Great Value
Course was in excellent shape, made you think on most of the holes. Greens had good pace and rolled true, rough was moderate. Was a little slow but that was the first time as I have played numerous rounds here. Very nice facility, friendly staff.
Afternoon Delight
I played this course on a Friday afternoon after an outing. .It was an enjoyable afternoon after being paired up with two other singles.
As for the course, it is a contrast between easy holes and difficult holes. The first 3 holes include 2 short par 5's and a short par 3. They provide an excellent opportunity to get off to good start.
The best hole on course is #14. It is medium length par 4 with approach over water to a severerly sloping green. Par is a good score on this hole.
The conditions on the entire course from tee to green were excellent. Would definitely return in the future.
Best in the area.
Always enjoyable to play. There are several landscape improvements which are nice.
This Course Rocks the Hardest!
This course rocks harder than I-Robot at the Marple AMC 10. Hole three has tighter fairways than my ol main squeeze Cipriano! If you don't pipe an iron down the middle you have no shot at birdie.
Great course.
Excellent.condition from fairway to green. Around some of the greens was thin with poor lies. Like all public courses, the greens were ball marked. But overall in better than average shape and very playable.
