What a Joke !!!!!
I played this course twice years ago, paid about $30, and was disappointed, mostly because some of the squirelly hole design just detracted from the golf experience. Lately I keep receiving emails about a membership offer, that on paper, seemed appealing. I'm so glad I didn't take that deal. This course is ridiculous! I got several more emails recently, with big banner ads advertising a Sunday am shotgun start for $75, and since I had heard a few good reports about the course lately, I signed up, thinking it was a tournament. It wasn't. So let me get this straight: $75 for a course that has horrendous tee boxes (under repair); only mats to hit off on all par 3's; disease on all grass, whether on fairways, greens, rough, or common area; gruff staff people who were apparently more concerned about the event in the afternoon; clump after clump after clump to hit out of; many many bad spots and unrepaired ball marks on almost all greens; not a single RAKED bunker; no beverage carts during the entire round of golf on a beautiful summer Sunday; difficulty getting someone in the kitchen area to wait on us at the turn, thus losing our position to the group behind us; sandwiches with old tuna salad mix and even older bread (I threw away the 2nd sandwich); sprinklers that inexplicably came on and drenched us on one green in the middle of the round; a groundskeeper who continued to hose down one green and leave the fire hose on the green as we hit our approach shots; and other groundskeepers and tournament people (for the afternoon event) who interfered and distracted us off and on throughout the round. I'll NEVER go back!
Terrible shape
First time playing this course....and only because I got a good hot deal. The shape of the tees is embarrassing. They actually have mats on all the par 3s and on one par 4! The fairways are decent but very spotty and the greens are very bumpy.
It's a shame, because I really loved the layout...and this course could really be beautiful if it was maintained properly
Poor course
This by far was the worst course I have played in the Washington DC area. The tee boxes were horrendous and the fairways were in very poor condition.
A Goat Path
MIght be the worst golf course I have ever played on. This was supposed to be an upscale course but I have played on municipal courses in better condition. The eee boxes wee a disgrace; more dirt than grass. One of the greens was infested with soil-boring bees - literally hundreds of bees. The superintendent decided to spray some sort of green-colored chemical over the 18th green right as we were playing. A complete joke of a course. Never again.
Great design, poor course maintenance
Absolutely love the design of the golf course. It sets up fairly difficult from the blue tees and presents a fair challenge. Unfortunately, the course is not maintained like it should be. The 2nd green is infested with some sort of large hornet that has burrowed tons of holes in the green. The tee boxes are all dead grass with crab grass throughout. Around almost every green the grass is dead in spots leading to deadpan lies on shots just off target. The rough is inconsistent. Many areas were simply over grown and not well maintained. I was glad I only paid $55 because if I had paid any more I would have been extremely disappointed. We even heard another group say "this is a goat track". The greens were in fairly good shape as were the fairways, which was the only saving grace. I wish this course were better maintained because I love the overall design.
PB Dye
Liked the layout, but the course wasn't maintained as well as it could be. The included lunch was great, would play again.
Nice Course
The course was in good shape with a few ball marks on greens, but being 2nd out in the morning pace of play was no problem. Only issue was that they were setting up for a tournament later in the day so the clubhouse was blasting music so loud, you could hear it the entire back 9.
Nice Course
Played early morning so no issue with pace. It was in good condition minus a few ball marks on some of the greens. Only complaint was later in the day they were setting up for a tournament so the clubhouse was blasting music that you could hear throughout the back 9.
You use everything in the bag
You have to golf then you have putt if you can play here you can play anywhere
Sunday outing
The course was in decent shape, it's rained the night before so it was cart path only. The greens were slow and some of the bunkers were filled with water and some were washed out. No delays, I had an 11.27 tee time and we were on deck at 11.20 and promptly at 11.27 we were off. The beverage cart made several rounds through the day and the water station were filled. Not a bad experience, would recommend and play again.
rate of play
the rate of play was awful...nearly 31/2 hours to play 12 holes!!
The ranger...if that is what you want to call him, was far more interested in finding golf balls than affecting the rate of play.
We literally had to leave to make a dinner appointment!!
Tough
PBDye can be extremely difficult if you don't hit the ball on the fairway. There's plenty of trouble, but it is a pretty place. We took advantage of the outside grill with two stops.
The greens were in good shape with lots of subtle breaks.
The waterfall is a nice feature to the finish.
Nice Trex
THe course was a nice challenge, pace of play was average as there were groups of twos and fours intermixed. I had a great time.
Interesting course to play
I truly enjoyed my experience at PB Dye. The course was in great shape. There were some interesting layouts for the different holes. It was a challenge, yet I had a good time.
Slow pace of play
Marshalls just make excuses for a five hour plus round of golf. I don't want excuses, I want them to do something!!!
Fun Design
Great golf course ... Good condition and pure greens that roll consistently ... Not too fast but with so much slope they are plenty tough ... Multi tier greens almost every hole that you must be aware of ... Very fun design every hole is different but they all work together ... Overall a challenge but fair doesn't deserve the reputation as "gimmicky" it' rewards good shots and punishes being out of position !! Play it !!!
Greens were...
With hot deals it was ok but greens were to be maintained and hopefully they become rolling when we play next time near future!
Dye-nasty
What I expected from a Dye-sign. Elevated greens, multiple tiered greens (2-putts are nice), deceptive tee shots (some blind). Thought it was one of the more fair Dye courses I've played. Course knowledge would help for next time, especially where to leave it on a few of the greens (#2 severe left to right slope, #10 not as severe back to front as it looks, #12 is just stupid). Love the layout and will be back to break 80 next time.
Great Fall Day
Read some bad reviews of the course, but played it years ago, loved it, and decided to try it out again. Sure, many blind shots, but nothing I thought was unfair or deceiving. Condition was great for Nov and pace of play was great! Soft greens, so lots of divits that players did not fix. I probably fixed 3-4 extra on each hole. Definitely will go back, even with a 45 minute drive to get there.
Seen better conditions
Glad I used golfnow for a $30 discount off regular greens fees. Would have paid $75 for a course where it looked like the greens haven't recv'd much love. You ask for that type of money this late in the season, you gotta make me want to come back. Maybe another time.
