P.B. Dye Golf Club

I have been trying to play this course for the last few years but either money or having enough players has kept me away. I was looking into getting a membership at one of the courses around me this year and found one here. For 39.99 a month you can play every day after 4pm for only the price of the cart. You also get all the range balls you want and more discounts. This course is on my way home from work and I get done around this time so it was a great deal from me. The course layout was great and challenging, the fairways can be slanted or uphill with many blind shots and obstacles right around the greens. I look forward to more play at this course and also more reviews.

First of all, the staff was outstanding. Called about two hours before we headed out and got a tee time. The whole staff in general was very friendly and helpful. This is my first time on this course and absolutely loved the layout. The course was in terrific shape for this time of the year. Greens are average but still tough and can't wait to play them during the summer months when they will run truer and faster. Visually stunning course and the mountains are beautiful. Will be coming back for sure. Thank you for a great day on the course.

I played this course as part of a shotgun start on a cold Sunday morning. We were delayed a bit because of frost, but that's to be expected when the temperature isn't hardly above freezing. The course was suprisingly green for the start of January and in reasonably good shape. You could tell that they hadn't done much rolling of the greens or maintenance on the fairways (which is understandable with the amount of rain we've had lately and the lateness of the season). There were a few tee boxes with tarps over them and some approaches to the greens that were roped off as ground-under-repair, but overall the course was in solid shape. The layout is absolutely treacherous. You must be solid with your approach shots and must know which side of the fairway to be on to have the best angle to the green. I had the pleasure of playing with some guys who knew the course well and coached me through the angles. The greens have more slopes and breaks than a crumpled piece of paper. They were mostly running quite slow, otherwise they would have been almost comic. I can only imagine what they would be like at tournament speed. But PB is a course you have to know is going to challenge you - so just man-up and play it. I wouldn't recommend it for someone just starting out, as it is as visually an intimidating course as you can find. But overall it is worth playing, especially if you're looking for a pure golf challenge.

A few years ago, my son (now 18) and I started a tradition of playing every year on New Years Day. Each year we play a different course, this year PB Dye was to selection.

This was our first time to play this course, and despite it being in the 40's and windy, we were both blown away by the course. Absolutely beautiful course, and amazing condition for Jan 1 (admittedly, it has been a warm Dec.).

We will add this course to our regular rotation and play again come summer time! I highly recommend this course for ANY golfer at any level, provides a great combination of playable, with some good challenges for most any level of golfer.

This course is usually one of the better maintained courses around the area as P.B. Dye has created a gem, but don't be mistaken this course is extremely difficult if your iron game is not on. Many roll off areas around the greens with the signature Dye railroad ties all over the place, so your irons must be well judged on approach shots. Make sure to test out the putting greens beforehand to see how they are rolling as the greens can differ significantly from day to day on green speeds there. Very nice course around the area and would recommend it to any golf enthusiast, but not really a course for beginners or novice golfers. Go out and enjoy this track!

It looks like there have been a lot of work done recently, and the course has been enhanced by their new management team as its comments. The fairways are nicely kept and the greens could beat any icy greens around the Washington D.C. area during this time. Just be careful on the 12th hole and 16th hole since they feel like professional courses and can be a bit tricky. It's worth a shot with some luck ~~

I only played this course once and it didn't go well partly because the tee boxes were a mess back then. So when an old friend came in town for a round of golf, I thought it was a good change to revisit there. I called the club house in advance to make sure the course was in good shape. The guy there told me it was in PERFECT play condition. Well, it was only after we started our game that I found the tee boxes were still a mess, the ground around the green were even worse that one had to second think his short game. We rushed to Worthington Manner as soon as I found out it was only 10 minutes away.

The location of the course is beautiful. Holes are very nice, trouble is there if not careful.

The greens are fantastic! The course is beautiful especially with the trees showing full fall colors. All the members of the staff were very friendly. I will definitely play this course again and I highly recommend the course.

New mgmt and ownership. Course is on the mend. If they can only get golfers to pick up pace and fix their ball marks on the greens!

Haven't played their in a while. Great challenge nice layout

after reading reviews online I was a bit skeptical however the course was in decent shape. The greens and fairways were good and there was always a clean spot on the tee boxes. They were aerating approaches while we were there however the staff moved out of the way while we were playing that hole. Fall renovations are just part of maintianing a golf course. Staff was friendly and PB Dye did a great job with the layout. The views are also great. For $40 on a Friday afternoon it was a great value and I plan on coming back again.

Played a lot of courses and I think this course has the biggest greens. Three puts are easy if you're in the wrong spots on greens. Dye puts lots of blind shots in front of you so you need to play it multiple times to know where to put your shots. Visuals are outstanding. Lots of wildlife. Great and friendly staff.

Only thing better than the gorgeous course and views are the staff. The general manager Jeff is great and very welcoming. Jeff and his staff spent a lot of time and attention making sure we had a great experience. The course is about an hour away from us, but worth the drive to return regularly with the friendly staff and beautiful set-up.

The course is challenging and flows well. The management is making considerable effort to improve the tee box conditions and is up front about any prior issues people may have had, based on some of the past reviews on here. Greens were some of the best we've played in the DC area. Playing in mid-September we did not experience any notable issues with the playing conditions.

Playing on an in-season weekend mid-day, we never felt rushed or on top of another group in front of us. We are relatively new to the sport, shoot in the high 90s and found it to be our favorite place to play in the DC area and are sure to return.

As others have said, the course conditions are poor. However the mats are gone and with a tee does it really matter if its grass or dirt beneath?

The sand and bumps on the greens were the source of frustration. There were many greens where a chip would have worked better than a long putt. The greens were running at a 6 or 7 on the Stimp meter but some were even slower and you could not tell until your fifteen foot stroke on a ten foot shot still came up three feet short!!

Still, had a good price for this early afternoon round and no crowd in front or behind.

Had a bad experience today. Golf course was under maintenance on almost every hole on the front. Everything was aerated, even the tee boxes and greens. Lawn mowers, sprinklers seemed to follow me ever where. It was so bad i had to leave early. Not pleased at all.

Booked online so I was not aware that greens had been aerated. Huge amounts of sand on most greens made it virtually impossible to putt. Almost all tee boxes had died recently, and grass was terrible. Many fairways had large amounts of dead areas. Very disappointed on overall shape of course. Will not go back this year for sure.

The course was in very poor condition and it is definitely not worth the money paid. The tees were essentially unplayable with some tees having driving range mats on them. The fairways had many bare spots and looked like they had not been watered in days. The greens weren't in much better condition with many unrepaired ball and spike marks and some bare spots. I will not be playing PB Dye anytime in the near future - this course needs major work.

I would not play the course again without checking to see if there has been an improvement in its condition. It actually had little mats on a number of tee boxes. You could not easily push a tee into them, but no tee was long enough to stick into the ground and still tee the ball at the proper height. I have never seen anything like this.

They should close the course until it is completely renovated and in a good condition
