Great Course for Beginners
The course is in significantly better shape than years prior - the greens have been upgraded. Overall - a great place to take beginners learning to golf. The course plays a bit slow - and the rough is very long.
Fun place to play
Fun golf course. Well taken care of and a challenge for all. Plenty of par 3 but also par 4s.
Challenging 3 par course
A good course for getting your short game practice in. A lot of par 3’s that are challenging and many par 4’s. Enjoyable course and can be played in 2.5 to 3 hours.
Great layout, courses needs better upkeep
Enjoys a round her today with friends. Haven’t played the course in over 20 years and was really looking forward to it. The layout is fantastic with 8 medium length par 4’s and 10 challenging par 3’a. The tee boxes are not well maintained and the fairways length was the satandard length of the first cut of rough at other courses. It made it difficult at times to locate balls in the fairway and when hitting the fairway rarely were you rewarded with a decent lye due to the length of the grass. If the fairways and tee boxes were in better shape this course would get 5* all around!
The lady upfront (Supervisor) has an attitude.
The lady upfront had a pretty bad attitude. But the rest of the staff was great!
Great course for new teen golfer
From the easy tee time booking to the Thank you from cart drop guy, Willow Springs was amazing. Pat the starter gave us the cart rules. Even the guy cutting the greens took time to say nice chip and put on two of our holes.A junior rate would bring us back weekly.
Mow The Grass
I’ll start by saying that I would give this course a 3/5 if they would just simply cut the grass. Several holes have 6-8 inch rough just a few feet off of the fairways, which basically resulted in penalty because you can’t get a full club on the ball (if you could find it). There were also a few fairways and tee boxes that were approaching standard primary rough lengths (2-3 inches). The bunkers need a lot of work as well. A few holes on the front 9 will always be cart path only due to the springs keeping things soggy. This slows pace of play and causes a bottleneck on the first few holes. This will never be fixed without major $ and a complete renovation, so it is what it is. New ownership has put money into the course in the last few years, which is a good sign, but they still have a long way to go. Some of the greens have recently been resurfaced from what appeared to be a disease. This could be a fun little course if they keep improving. Unfortunately, until the grass is mowed to a normal length and the bunkers get some new sand in them, I won’t be back.
Great value for you're money
Cant beat it for $38 bucks.. course was decently maintained. Greens could be better but over all great course . Will definitely play again.
Not bad for a 62 par course (no par 5's)
I've played willow springs a number of times over the years and had the best outing this month. Tee boxes and greens were well maintained. The starter also let us play an extra 9 for free so that was a nice bonus. Understand this is a short course, all par 3 & 4. Fairways are not trimmed the shortest cut as you'd typically expect but if you can pay under $40 it's not a bad value. I'd not pay over $40 to play here, plenty of better courses for that price.
When my partner and I got there and started playing, the fairways on the first three holes looked like they hadn't been mowed in a about a week. The length of the fairway grass was like hitting out of the rough on most courses. Once we past the third hole the fairways had been mowed and play was a lot better.
Unkept grass in fairways, rough and tee boxes
I’ve played this course several times last year and noticed that the length of grass was getting a bit out of control. I opted to not play again until this year thinking that they might be trying to grow the grass to fix some issues and simply needed time to get it under control. I have to say I was severely disappointed yesterday with the shape of the course. Where they appear to have redone the greens on the front nine, the grass in the rough, fairways and tee boxes were in horrible shape. The grass in the rough was so long (around 10 inches long) that you literally could not find your ball (even in very playable places) or hardly hit out of it. The fairways were slightly shorter than what you could expect for average first cut rough, and the tee boxes were so long that often you could not tell the difference between the tee box and surrounding grasses. Cart path only on holes 1,3,5,7 and all par 3’s and having to really look for your balls every time you did not hit a fairway or green made pace of play a little challenging. Lastly, the bunkers were in horrible shape. They need sand and lots of it!! The bunkers are totally unplayable in their current condition of packed dirt and rocks with very poor drainage.
For something as easily fixed as the grass length, I cannot understand why the management doesn’t cut it and bring the course up to its full potential. Where I get that the course is only $35 to play, that’s around $10 too much for the current shape that the course is in.
Also…for those of you who like to know course ratings, this one hasn’t been updated since the early 90’s and in my opinion does not reflect the current condition of the course.
Great little course
