not for novice players
Teeing off blind, lots of elevation change and very tight greens make this a pretty difficult course.
Basic golf
Basic golf! I was a little disappointed in the green especially after all of the rain and snow this winter. They are difficult with tons of mounding. Some severe elevation changes which were challenging. Short course, the back tee boxes are a little rough; hard to find level stance on a few. Good local course but not worth over a long drive to play. Quail Valley a much better option.
Nice course
The course was in very nice condition, and the staff was very friendly. Would definitely go back.
Interesting and challenging
Starter was extremely helpful and courteous. Set me up other player to help me with layout. Some real great hole designs and good use of terrain. Would be good course to play regularly. If you're in the area it is a must play.
Interesting layout
Westminster National is all about elevation change and includes down-hill, uphill, and side-hill holes. There is a mix of parkland and links style holes and water is in play on some of them. The course is not overly long but requires attention to course management and shot placement. This is definitely not a walking course. The only quirk of the course is that in the center of the property, a number of holes come together, forcing cart paths to intersect, and this makes for an awkward design. Since the course is not intuitive, it would help if the scorecard had a course layout on it. Bottom line- a fun place to play if you don't mind some blind shots.
Many hills but beautiful course, farm land
The staff was great during check in, the greens were tight and fast, pace of play was little slow with grouping of 4 in front of me, but I joined with two young golfers and stilled finished in 4 and half hours. I recommend this course for the price and the views. Have some extra balls if it is your first time playing this course or stay in the fairway. Hit them straight.
Course in Great Shape!
Played on a cold and windy day.
The course and greens were in great shape.
Greens were fast and had true rolls.
Great course
This was a very nice but tough course to play. The greens are difficult and most are like a hump so your ball rolls off most of the time.
Great Deal for Beginners
I'm just getting into golf and decided to go out and play with some friends who are significantly better than me. It was only the second time I've played a full 18 holes, but I would call the course conditions average. For under $20 a person, however, it's a steal. For me, course difficulty doesn't really affect my score (since I'm shooting over 100 anyway), but my friends were commenting on how the course was short compared to what they've played. I would definitely recommend for a quick round or for any beginner who wants to improve their game.
Fun Course Great Value
The course offers a lot of challenges but is fair in most regard. The condition of the course is great and the convenience of booking on Golf Now makes it a no brain er.
Still The Same, 18 Years Later
I returned to Westminster National for the first time since 1996. I knew it as Bear Creek, which some of the tee markers still say, even though I was told the name changed 7-8 years ago. Honestly, other than flipping the 9's since thin, I'm not sure anything has changed. The beat up cart paths suggest they've never been fixed (except for hole 7 down the hill on the par 5). There are some brown patches, and the tees are uneven and patchy. It's a short course so if you're a big hitter you probably won't use your driver very much. This is also one of the courses that seems to hate their relationship with golf now, and even though I arrived 35 minutes before my tee time to an empty course, I was not allowed to tee off early. If you get a hot deal, bear in mind the tee time policy, take some drinks, and have a relaxing, quick round on a mediocre course.
Great Value
Front desk older dude could be a little friendlier considering this is friendly Carroll County and traps were hard packed. Other than that this course is exceptional value.
Fun, Challenging Course
really scenic course with some great views and fun par 5s
Westminster National Review July 6
The course was in excellent shape. The staff was courteous with no wait to tee off. We finished in a little over 4 hours with great pace of golfers in front of us. Booking on golfnow was easy and conveninet and was done after 7pm the previous night.
You gotta think
A first you think it is a strange little layout. The crossing tee boxes and elevation changes take maximum advantage of the terrain to create a game that will make you think. Greens can be difficult at times. There are lots of opportunities for creative shots. Don't be fooled by distance. Back tees will force you to fit some shots through narrow trees.
Beautiful, short, challenging course
The course is not long, but it is all about ball placement. Each hole had unique character. Course knowledge will be helpful when I play again.
First round of Golf Vacation
Very nice course, loved the layout and the condutions were really nice. I would come back again and play. There were some blind shots so take a cart and drive down the fairway and check out the hole. I got a great price with Golfnow, $18.00 cart inclunded. Yes I did say $18.00 for 18 holes with cart. Well worth the price. Played alone and moved without any hold up. The only bad thing was I lost my 6 iron, and was surprised that no one turned it into the club house. Otherwise it a great place to check out and play.
Enjoyed the course very much.
The course was challenging we enjoyed our round very much.
Great local course
Good value course.
Lots of varying terrain and elevation changes.
Some of the grounds are in need of work but all of the greens were in good condition. Some tee boxes could use some work.
Overall, i enjoy the course and play here several times a year.
Great Course
It's a great place to play! Hilly and challenging, but fun.
