Excellent layout
I play Acushnet River occasionally during the year and love it most this time of year as you can get right out without a lot of people on the course. The course is always in great shape, the greens are just a little slower in Mar/Apr as the grass is just starting to grow again and hasn't been cut but the ball still rolls consistent and during the summer they are perfect! Just joined the monday night league there as well.
nice Course
Acushnet is in great condition. Pace of play is great! Course lay out is excellent for non pro players. Very fair layout.
Value for $$$ is good. They do have a place to hit balls but it is way below average.
This course is always in great shape!
Staff is the best!
Great Value, great course!
This gem of a municipal course is beyond great. It is without question the best public course anywhere in Massachusetts of which there are many. You will not be disappointed.
Must play Best play
This is the best course in the area for value and condition. Challenging yet scoreable. It gives you the best of a New England course and a links course. Lack of a clubhouse is the only drawback but the handheld food is top notch.
Very Pretty & Great Design But VERY SLOW WEEKEND SITUATION
You'll love the golf course, design and condition of greens. The difficulty is not the length but the excellent design that gives you plenty of room to hit your ball but be wary of where NOT to hit it. About half of the greens have some contour, slope and ridges that make you really pay attention. Played here once before during the week and was practically empty so no slow play. But played on a Sunday mid day and was VERY SLOW with NO ONE on the course to get people moving. Also first tee was a mystery since the starter gave us a 20 minute delay information upon arrival at the tee and then disappeared ..... was gone for quite a while while people continued to come to the first tee, gather and wonder what we were supposed to do. So we figured it out among ourselves and just started teeing off. Very typical of other public courses I've been to where the first tee is just not managed properly .... especially for a weekend. Don't come here on the weekend ... this approached a 5 and half hour round.
Great conditions
Front nine picturesque and in good condition- back nine open type links course
Aesthetically Beautiful and Great Design
Great design and aesthetically beautiful golf course. Condition of tees, fairways, greens and rough is way above average for public golf course. Plenty of room to hit most tee shots while most of the the first 12 holes are beautifully framed by variety of woodlands and landscaping. Back nine opens up a bit to enjoy more links style holes and the finishing hole 18th is a gem that could grace any golf calendar. Condition and design of greens is outstanding so you'll enjoy rolling your ball.
Always a good course to play.
This course has an enjoyable layout. It's walkable with a few rolling hills. The wind often comes into play here too. Fairways and greens are in good shape. I've always had positive experiences playing this course.
Way Good
My wife and I paired up with 2 brothers, one was a local and knew the course. With a group on the tee, a group on the fairway, and a group on the green, pace of play was average. Everything else about our Acushnet River Valley GC experience was excellent.
Nice layout some interesting holes used every club in the bag
Get new Management
First off, ARV is a wonderful layout. Probably the best public course off cape in Massachusetts. Seems to get good ratings. I play a lot of rounds of golf annually and I have a pretty good idea of value. All that being said, I would tell folks to stay away from this course until some things change
I used to play here a lot despite never finding the management very friendly or helpful. I am an Acushnet resident and was pleased a few years back when they finally offered a resident discount. Unfortunately it only amounted to $2 off at special times. ARV is notorious for slow play as they rarely have a ranger working and when they do, pace of play is never enforced. Incredibly lax with starting times as well. I live just down the road but I had only played there once this past year. So I booked a tee time 3 days in advance. As I was to pay I was told that the $2 resident discount was seasonal and no longer applied. This is despite a total discrepancy with their website (which has probably not been updated in years BTW) There was massive confusion on the 1st tee even with a starter and my mid afternoon tee time was 20 minutes behind. Ok, even if the round takes 4 and a half hours we should make 18 before dark (7PM). You think? Of course the pro shop never told me that they had some kind of tournament being held that day. To be fair they should have mentioned that when I booked my tee time. I made 14 holes and darkness began to fall. So incredibly slow! (BTW) There was a threatening handwritten sign taped in the proshop stating the front gate would be locked at 6:30 PM. It's mid-Sept. and sun set is 6:45PM with dusk approx. a half hour later. What nonsense! Ironically, when I drove out of the parking lot it was well past 6:30 PM. I have never played a course so ill managed.
In addition to the management issues I would also mention that the course was always well maintained. It would begin to suffer from overplay late each season but for a public with limited resources, it was maintained well. This year is the worse I've seen it this late in the year however. Especially the greens...the slowest I've ever seen them. They were beat up and bumpy as well.
Bottom line; course is terribly managed. Instead of using my convenient local golf course I drive 30 minutes regularly to play where I can play cheaper and hassle free. BTW, Acushnet River Valley may now be using GolfNow but it is not a deal. Until the town decides to change the management personel I would highly recommend avoiding this place.
Thanks Acushnet River Valley
Really glad this course is now on Golf Now. I love the mix that this course offers. The front 1-11 you are tucked away in the pines and oaks offering challenge to stay on the fairways. Holes 12-16 open up to a lynx style. On this the day pace was super quick practically had the course to ourselves. Had a great round and can't wait to go back and play again.

Staff was great. My wife and I are from Tampa and needed to escape the nastiness of Hurricane Irma. Perfect weather on a well groomed course. Unfortunately, the pace of play was extremely slow. Took us over 5 hours to complete 18 holes. It NEVER takes us this long to play 18. Walkers ahead of us slowed everyone down. Course was well maintained. Next time I play will be during the week, not on a weekend.
Great track
Great layout thru the trees thru first 9, then wider open links layout on the back. Only minor thing we noticed is that greens are a bit slow compared to most other good local courses. Staff is great and pace of play was great.
