Massachusetts had a record year during Golfers' Choice 2025. For the first time, three of the best public courses in Massachusetts made our national Top 50. For that reason, we named Massachusetts, along with a visit to Cape Cod, one of the best golf trips to take in 2025. It's one of the top golf destinations in New England.
There's more depth than such a small state gets credit for, too. GolfPass releases a Top 20 Public Golf Courses in Massachusetts every March thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. Elite private clubs like Sankaty Head Golf Club, Boston Golf Club, Vineyard Golf Club in Martha's Vineyard, Kittansett Club, Essex County Club and Stanwich Golf Club aren't eligible.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

The Ranch Golf Club
Green fee: $75-$125
What they're saying: "You know any course that gives all of its holes a name must be pretty special. Every hole is different and you generally don’t notice other golfers, as the fairways are all refreshingly away from each other. I would rank this course a top 5 public course in the state, with the 9th and 16th holes being spectacular. Additionally, all of the employees are friendly which is a bonus. A+ golf experience at the Ranch." - troy288 -
Crumpin-Fox Club
Green fee: $79-$99
What they're saying: "The staff here is always pleasant and professional. We played in late fall conditions and the course was in great shape. The greens still rolled very smoothly and the fairways and rough were perfectly cut. If you haven’t played this course yet, you need to put it on your list of courses to play next year." - Pattihaas -
