Maplegate Country Club
About
Maplegate Country Club sprawls across 150 acres of gently rolling hills that are blanketed with forests of stately maple, oak, beech, and white pine trees. The golf course is situated just off of I-495 along the border between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although the location is seemingly isolated, it’s conveniently only 45 minutes from Boston. The course plays harder than it looks with a diverse layout that will test you with a variety of different shots. Maplegate Country Club's front nine features more target-style golf but you'll get to pull out your driver on the back nine. There are some tough holes, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The variety that the golf course offers made it the natural choice to host U.S. Open Qualifiers in both in 1998 and 2001.

Disappointing and poor PR
The pace was terrible due to over booking.
Teed of 40 minutes late.
Pace was so slow we could only play 9 holes after 4 hours on the coarse.
The club refused to give us a 9 hole credit for a later date.
Poor customer service.

Disappointed
Disappointed that the club over booked tee times. We waited 40 minutes after o booked t time.
It took 4 hours to play 9 holes.
Club wouldn’t give us a 9 hole for credit to play later.
WILL GOLF NOW provide a rain check?

Forced carries made for challenging shotmaking

Slow Play and Alcohol Drinking Encouraged
Too bad a nice course is not what it could be because of extremely slow pace of play especially on front 9. Course says on no coolers allowed but I was paired with 3 guys that drank so much that they played only 12 holes and quit. Not an enjoyable round.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We are glad you had enjoyed your time at Maplegate Country Club, and pride ourselves on delivering the best experience possible.
We hope to see you again soon!
Overbooking a problem
Tried to play Maplegate twice this summer.
First time the pace of play was painfully slow and we left
After a 3 1/2 hour front nine.
Tried again on Sunday and never teed off. There was a big mix up and groups that were started on back 9 , we’re coming up to first tee box as we were preparing to tee off.
We watched in amaze that as four groups were allowed to tee off while we waited . Gave up after. Waiting a half hour and got refunded snd left . Probably won’t be back.
It’s unfortunately ,because the course is in great shape and was looking forward to a nice round!!
Hello. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and to best control pace allowing everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. We hope to see you again soon.
Come a long way!
I play this course on the regular. First time playing here was a few years ago and it has gotten so much better since then. Fairways and greens in real good shape. You’ll want to stay out of the rough though. Pace of play is pretty good, I typically play between 8 and 9am. Beverage carts are always around and the girls are super friendly and not bad to look at. This has become one of my favorite local spots to play. A little pricey, but I can see where the money is going.

Waste of time and money
Course itself is nice, the experience not so much. People playing there don’t have a care in the world, took 3 1/2 hours for 9 holes because everyone plays bad slow and management is blinded by dollar signs to do anything about it. They overcharge for tee times, charge random unadvertised fees on top of an already outrageous price, overbook tee times and can’t even afford a real clubhouse. I’m embarrassed for them when new people play there and are charged $110 for a 6-7 hour round. Sad to see what this place has become

Tight
The holes all seemed to be very close to each other. Many forced carries over junk. Pace of play was horrific. Close to a 6 hour round

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!

Still working on it
Tried the course after 2 yr hiatus and it looks like the Glen Ellen former Super is slowly bringing this back...there were new machines visible during play...and work being done during round but that is normal...
Thing that has yet to be improved are their 'roughs'...still dominated by hard pan packed dirt...so if you should run off the fairway or miss, no telling how far the ball will roll...
Hole #2 is a blind tee shot and yet again, with no way to indicate the fairway is clear to those waiting in the tee box,led to an early tee shot missing this writer by about 6 feet...with no FORE verbalized...the 15th hole used to have some sort of mirror to see the blaind landing area for tee shots and that too has disappeared...so for future layers send some one ahead for safety...
Course still needs work on greens/tees in about 4-5 holes...unrepaired divots, and virtually no grass in tee boxes...
This course continues to be, on the mend, and depending on purchase price may or may not be a value since there is a sense of time surge pricing...
Did notice they POST PACE OF PLAY on the score card, yet, neither the Pro Shop nor the Started mentioned it and it would be such an asset if it were promoted 100% at every touch point for staff...particularly on week end play
Do call ahead during summer months to see if the GOLF CAMP is still there, kids took over the putting green and some of the driving range with HAPPY GILMORE type kids(lacked supervision).
The course, methinks, like many I have played the last 12-18 months, has had the opportunity to rebound financially and would hope they continue to enable the course Super to do his job...and be patient, this will get there...

My new favorite course
Great round at Maplegate! The range was using its grass hitting area, so I had a good chance to warm up realistically. I grabbed a cart - I'd recommend you get an electric cart. My gas powered cart felt like a poorly tuned go cart.
All of the holes were in great shape, tee boxes, fairways, and greens. The fairways are generous enough and the rough isn't too deep. Many of the holes border other holes, so even if you miss, you have a good chance of finding your ball quickly and playing on. Many of the holes have a forced carry about 200 - 250 yards out (depending on your tee box). It makes for some good challenge, making you choose to lay up or be bold, especially on the par 5s. The greens played true with very few bumpy areas. People are good about repairing ball marks.
We saw the drink cart about 3 times and the snack bar is fully stocked. I really enjoyed playing here.
Wow! We are so happy you enjoyed your round! We look forward to seeing you again soon at Maplegate Country Club.
