Unaccompanied Guest Rate is not worth it
The course was not in great shape as some of these other reviews mention. The conditions on the front nine were comparable to a run of the mill muni course. The fairways had numerous dead spots and the was unevenly mowed in spots (thick spots next to brown burnt out dead spots). The back nine was considerably better. All greens were in fantastic condition.
My review is critical mainly because this is not what I would expect from a $130 round. Layout is nice and the greens are great, but the overall conditions are not in the same league as other $100+ public courses (Red Tail, Granite Links, Crumpin Fox, etc.). Look elsewhere if you must pay the unaccompanied guest rate.
One of the Best
Recently played the course with the Safari Club and a good time was had by all. Course was in great shape even with punched greens which still putted true. Welcoming and helpful staff made the experience even better.
course was in great shape but the greens were airrated
I played ith the Safari Golf group and the staf and the gold course were near perfect except the greens were airrated.
That aside this is a great golf course with some very challenging holes. The food was outstanding as well as the service.
Challenging, but fair course in excellent condition
Played here with the Safari Club on 8/26. Great day! Course was in excellent condition from tee to green. Challenging layout. Staff was great. They helped whenever necessary. Buffet afterwards was excellent. Enjoyable day throughout! Looking forward to returning in the future.
private Club
we played the Orchards with the Safari Club .
The layout is ok nothing great no wow factor here.
The greens were airated and the top dressing job left much to be desired the greens were fast but due to the poor top dressing tough to putt.
The pro and his staff were the BEST and the Director of the club made us feel at home ,the food and service was great everything was first class.
love to go back when the r=greens and in top shepe as they are FAST ad true .
Challenging Course
Played this last week with the Safari Club. Interesting and challenging layout. Course was in excellent conditions throughout. Pace of play was very good. Staff were courteous and everything was very well organized. Cookout meal afterwards was very good.
Safari adventure...
Playing this course is an adventure....you had best bring your favorite driver because if your not in the fairway you are fighting the tall fescue. The greens were well manicured and very fast... slide by the hole and you have a long putt back. The fairways were in great shape and allowed crisp shots to the greens...this is a course the you will need every club in your bag..
Donald Ross design
We played here with over 100 people from the Safari Club. This is a Donald Ross designed course which has hosted the Women's U.S. Open and many other significant events. The course is extremely challenging with many bowl shaped greens which require precision shots to specific locations on the green. The Orchards Golf Club was very gracious to allow the Safari Club to hold its event at this location. Thank you to the members for allowing us to share this magnificent course with our group. The facilities and wrap around deck were a pleasant relief after a hot day in the sun. The buffet served by the club was very good and the bar service and wait staff were extremely effective. Many thanks to the P.G.A. Professional staff and the superintendent and his staff for a fine groomed golf course. Thanks again for allowing our group the pleasure of being able to play one of the finer courses in the United States.
In A-One Condition
Played Orchards with the Safari Club yesterday (July 10th) and enjoyed all aspects of the facility from the course to the staff. The course was in great shape and offered challenges to all levels of golf enthusiasts.
Safari Club Outing
Good day with the Safari Club. Very nice day for golf. Tough course for a 35 handy caper. Very good conditions. Greens are hard to read and it is a long course.
Great course, worth the trip out west!
Played here this week and the course is in great shape. Greens are lightning fast so beware. Good variety of doglegs, hazards, fescue, etc. Par 5s are not particularly long so you have some scoring opportunities if you can navigate the greens. Go if you can get on the course!
Nice course
Had a great time with the Safari Club at the Orchards. The greens are tough reads with slopes and ridges.
Course is in great condition despite the drought.
Ross at his best
I guess one shouldn't be so terribly surprised to find such an incredible golf course as this in the quaint little college town of South Hadley, MA. The former site of the 2004 U.S. Women's Open Championship, this golf course represents Donald Ross at his very best. If you can get on this course...DO SO! It's one of those experiences any serious golfer will treasure for a lifetime.
I just played the Ochards Golf Course on July 11th with the Safari Golf Association
The course was in excellent condition and was very challenging, I like to play Golf courses like this when i need to us most of my clubs in the bag.
The course was in excellent condition and the staff were very helpful .
The food at the 19th Hole was also good
Great Time
Great Donald Ross Track
Played this for the first time on Monday with the Safari Club. Really enjoyed it. Interesting holes. No two are similar. Course was in excellent condition -- especially after the big 4 day tournament they just finished on the day before. Greens putted true. Staff was accommodating and the buffet afterwards was excellent. Would definitely play again.
A must play course.
Played the course today with the Safari Club and had a great time. Great layout with several uphill approaches to the greens. Need to stay below the hole, if possible, for birdie opportunities. Friendly staff and very satisfying lunch.
A Great Safari Club Event at The Orchards
I played The Orchards today with the Safari Club and we were welcomed with open arms. The course was in wonderful shape considering the drought we have been in but the greens were absolutely perfect! They held if you came in high and they putted true every time.
They did an excellent buffet after the event and this is a must play if you can get out!
