Excellent course

Really enjoyed this course. Conditions were excellent, from tee to green. Not terribly long even from the blues, with some tight fairways and trees lining every hole. It helps to focus on accuracy off the tee over distance. If you’re wild off the tee you will live in the trees and have a long round.

Can’t comment on clubhouse or pro shop as I just checked in and started my round. Starter was friendly and had friendly interactions with the Marshall.

I’ll definitely be back as I was most impressed with course conditions. A+

Fun time

First time playing here, try to get an app that'll show you the course layout, some holes are a little tricky. 7th hole has a beautiful tee box setup and shot. Great little course since it's only a par 70, but fun and challenging

Be careful using Online booking

While the golf course is in very good shape particularly the greens, I had an issue with the matter of payment and was very disappointed in management's surly attitude, inflexibility and overall reaction to the situation.

Booked 2 foursomes on Friday June 12 for the following Thursday using their automated system. Although I was unable to get the system to book us at the Senior rate of $30 versus the regular $42 rate, I still made the reservation. The Automated system immediately charged my credit card at $42.00 each. I then called the Clubhouse and explained my situation. The person told me the charge was pending and it would be straightened out when we checked in.

That never happened and I was charged $336 versus $240. The course GM told me I should have originally called the Clubhouse to make the tee times and because I booked at the higher rate, nothing could be done. He also mentioned that we were free to leave but would not get any refund. What frustrates me is that their website offers online booking but does not mention that to get the Senior rate, I needed to call the Clubhouse. Had I been told of the limitations during my call, I would have cancelled the online reservation and made the tee times over the phone and made the tee times over the phone.

Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention. We are so sorry for the confusion and inconvenience that you experienced. This happened because you wanted to book two senior rate foursomes back to back online and that option not was not available online at the time you wanted to play. Instead, you booked two foursomes at our full price online. Once the tee times are booked through our online system it automatically charges your credit card for the price of those regular tee times. We were not able to credit you back the difference because you booked those full priced tee times & other customers willing to pay the full price were not able to book those times. The owner, Cole Page, explained this to you in detail and asked in the future for you to call the pro shop if you want to book something that is not available online. We always do our best to accommodate our customers. Cole also gave you four carts which cost $20 a piece, for your inconvenience, which saved you $80, this decreased the difference in the price that you paid from the senior rate from what you stated at $96 down to $16. Our goal is to always take care of our customers in any situation and we ask that you call the pro shop in the future if you cannot find the options you need online at 978-897-3400 X2.

Apathetic staff, long waits, poor course drainage

Typically I don’t write reviews like this, but I had such a negative experience here I felt the need to warn people.

Day started with us getting stuck behind people who had obviously hardly played golf before. By 6 we gave up on playing with any pace whatsoever as we were waiting for them on every shot.

As we hit 6 we asked the Marshall if it was about to storm and if we should take cover. He said no and that it was north of there (all without even looking at a radar too, natural weatherman).

Well as we are finishing up 6 a monsoon comes and we’re caught in it. Goes on for about 15 mins and we have to take cover under some trees.

After it ends we try to finish the 9 but the puddles on the green and fairway because of the poor course drainage make it difficult. Half our group decides to call it because playing in these slow and poor conditions don’t really make golf fun.

We head back to the clubhouse and ask for a 9 hole rain check to which we are met with a response of “is it still raining?” By the cart boy, who refuses to give us a 9 hole rain check and says to email to manager of the course.

Now mind you, this would’ve been 22$ rain check essentially. Something almost all clubs give. And it’s more about the principle than anything as we live 35 mins away and probably wouldn’t get back out there for a few weekends if ever.

Regardless. That was my experience. Also I saw the cart girl (who took my credit card to “start a tab” one time through this three hour debacle.

Nice course and great value

This course has a nice layout and is well maintained. Greens are very true. Its not very long but you need to hit it straight else you're in the trees. Senior rate is a real value for this area. Clubhouse is closed because of the pandemic so its difficult to comment on the amenities.

I have a love hate relationship with this course

I really do like this course. It is a good value for the money. That being said I have never played it well. It is not a long course but it feels very narrow with trees down both sides of most fairways. And those that are open are their hardest holes, including a par 5 that is almost 600 yards long.

If you do not hit your drives straight it could be a long day and if you do hit the green you may have a long putt as the greens are a good size.

Again all that being said I will continue to go back and try to shot a good score.

I do recommend this course to anyone who loves golf!!!!

Pace of play terrible

Normal tee times are about 8 minutes apart. Due to the pandemic they increased to 15. Group ahead had 2 novice golfers that were slowing them down, and they let us play through. The group in front of them were just as slow, and had almost 1.5 holes of gap between them and the group ahead of them. Marshall only drove by and never said anything. It shouldn’t take 4.5 hours to play when the tee time spacing is almost double.

Cute little course!

Was in the area for work and played 9 with some coworkers after our day ended.

We walked 9 and finished in about 1:40. The course is reasonably well maintained. It is a very tight course and there are a LOT of trees to contend with. The greens were pretty slow as well.

We enjoyed the round and I'll return next time I'm in the area.

Too Close for Comfort

This is a nice, well laid out and maintained course, and the weekend fee is reasonable. My three complaints are: (1) the fairways are extremely tight, and the holes are so close together that you constantly hear shouts of "fore" from golfers on adjoining holes; (2) the pace of play on a Saturday morning was 5.25 hours; and (3) there is no water on the course, except the bottles you can purchase from the drink cart. If you hit it straight, don't mind a marathon round and pack your own water, you should love this place. I might give it another try mid-week during the shoulder seasons.

Very tight off the tee

I listed narrow fairways as one of the "challenges", but this isn't entirely accurate. The real challenge is narrow alleyways from the tee box. Many tee boxes are surrounded by trees. The result is someone who plays a consistent shot shape really needs to pay attention to where they tee up as a push-draw or pull-fade could hit a tree before the draw or fade comes into play. These tight alleyways and a par four dogleg left that doesn't allow for a straight shot in the fairway are why I knocked the rating down for course layout.

First Time at Butternut

My first time at Butternut Farms was great!! Golf course is really good. Plays shortish at 5755 from whites but is very narrow and tree lined. If you spray ur tee ball you will not be able to do nothing but pitch out and regroup. Some really memorable holes here. # 3 is a longest hole to a double green. # 8 is fantastic!! 268 yards over wetlands to narrow fairway w a small green. Beautiful hole. # 9 plays into a great clubhouse with a patio over the back. # 10 is a monster. 600 yards slight dogleg right w a narrow fairway. 3 or 4 shot hole with fairway ending at about 120 with pitch over a pond to a narrow green I actually hit pin on the fly and landed close for me to save par. # 5 plays long over a lake after going across a covered bridge. Really enjoyed 14. Drive over protected wetlands to a slight right dog leg. Overall course was in great shape. Bunkers. Greens and fairways. Only two complaints. Tee boxes were hard. Not forgiven for irons and tough to find a soft spot for tee. My main issue was customer service in grill. Girl didn't seem to want to be there. Outside smoking when we arrived. We only had time for a drink b4 our round but planned on coming in after round for drinks and a burger but when we asked her the hours she basically said that 5 pm was it. On a summer Sunday!?!? And sure enough with our 206 tee time we were done about 615 and it was locked and done. C"mon maybe 7 o'clock during the summer?!? Very disappointed. This was reason I couldn't give Butternut Farms five stars They have a amazing clubhouse. Keep it open so we can enjoy it. Definitely will be back. I shot a 76. So golf was excellent
