A typical green on the back nine (Sep 2022) Photo submitted by u314160008154 on 10/01/2022
This isnt a golf course
No tee boxes, missing greens. This isnt a golf course. Just a half decently mowed park.
Friendly staff and great layout, but deplorable state
I've never seen a course so badly maintained. All greens were just unplayable, with huge patches of dirt. There were 2 holes with no greens at all, just a flag planted in the middle of the fairway and a spray painted circle signaling the green.
The tee boxes was almost like hitting from the rough, with long grass I didn't know how high to tee up for a drive since the driver would get caught on the grass.
It is a shame, because the course is huge and the layout is actually incredible. At least 3 very long par 5+ (almost 600 yds) and long par 4s as well.
Very friendly staff.
This should be a pearl for MA golf courses, but obviously is incredibly poorly managed by the state
No playable greens
Fairways are in extremely poor condition but still much better than the diseased weed strewn greens. Never took my putter out of the bag it would have been pointless. Might be worth getting my skis out in the winter but as far as golf, a complete waste of time.
Has potential
I’ll never understand why these city courses don’t raise the fees by 20% and just make the greens and tee boxes nicer, it’s a decent course layout with unputtabke greens
Lovely situated bud poor condition.
Extremely bad course conditions. Almost unplayable. Very lovely layout in Nature.
The course is in terrible condition. Many greens were burnt out with no grass at all. Do not play here.
Course needs maintenance
The course has potential to be a quality, fun round of golf if the appropriate amount of money is invested. The greens are really bad with patches of sand and uneven ground that make putting nearly impossible. They need the most attention. The fairways are ok, they're playable.
A work in progess, but fun to play nonetheless.
I like playing this course. I usually play here a couple time a season. The front nine was in better shape than the back nine. That was alright by me because I like the front nine better than the back nine holes . I know people complain about the course . It is by no means in country club condition. The greens need work However, for the price it is a good deal. The course is challenging ,but not exhausting. Used a hot deal on the GolfNow app , which made the round all the more worthwhile.
Like / but there’s a “catch” here…
Layout of the course is nice in my opinion
(Tee to Green)
…however
the powers that be for the course are not
maintaining it
The “catch” is this:
The Greens are not real / and it doesn’t
look like they are fixing them anytime soon…
Too bad, because the course is challenging and
not “easy”
Do Not Count on practicing your putting here
Unputtable
Believe the reviews. Starting declaring two putts max but the fact that chipping was also affected created a poor experience. Pass on returning
Don’t bother
Played 18 and there wasn’t a single green that wasn’t a dirt parking lot. It wasn’t even playing golf. Drove 40 minutes to play here and I’ll never come back
Greens were horrible
The course as a whole is fine, layout wise and size. What was really disappointing was the condition of the greens. It made the end of each hole more or less irrelevant. I’ve played here many times and never have I seen the collective greens so bad. On the 7th hole they didn’t even try to hide all the dead grass, they just moved the pin to the fairway and left the dirt/dead grass to sit. I enjoy the course at Leo J. I’d golf here again, only if I knew the greens would be taken care of. Just disappointing to play and not putt any meaningful putts
