A typical green on the back nine (Sep 2022) Photo submitted by u314160008154 on 10/01/2022
A windy game.
Course was challenging and fun with lots of risky areas around the green. This makes the approach to many holes a test of how to attack the green. Lots of long fairways to test my drivers. My 2-iron saved the day on a number of fairways. Plan at least several hours for 18 holes.
Poor course conditions
Little to no maintenance to the course. Most greens are brutal. Fairways in not much better condition. This could be a nice course with a little care and a. Lot of initial help. Problem is people still play it so why bother seems to be the attitude.
Staff was pleasant but no food available in the clubhouse.
Potential is there
Everything is good except the greens
Played after/in heavy rain course took it very well the greens are not in great shape but every other part of the course is in good shape layout is fantastic very firm. The staff was very friendly even for having to help people all day in the rain.
Skip it
I played this muni yesterday and the greens are unputtable. I was so mad that no one mentioned this to me before setting off to play. They wouldn’t give me a refund. I essentially played the fairways and only putted once and picked up. It was embarrassing. Leo Martin is a state managed DRC course. The unfortunate thing… it’s a Donald Cross designed course that the state just neglected any upkeep. I really like the course design too. I just never would have imagined just how bad the greens were. It’s set up for players like me who fade the ball and not draw, like most courses. Not only should this course be skipped, more people need to complain to the DCR about the shabby conditions.
Extraordinarily dilapidated
I was wondering why it was easy to get a tee time, even for $33.
Reason: should have been $15. It is barely a golf course any more. I played there 40 years ago in college. It was a good public course.
It is so run down that the term "dog track" insults other dog track courses.
So disappointed
Please go somewhere else
If you enjoy playing golf, do not play here.
Overgrown from tee to green and un puttable
Just don’t bother playing here , seriously
Just read the other reviews and honestly don’t even bother coming here. The conditions are THAT BAD. It’s not even fun with how bad the conditions are. You might think it’s worth it because you’re paying less but trust me it’s not. Honestly I wouldn’t even play here for free. I can only play on the weekends and I don’t even want to waste my precious time playing here for free. It’s that bad. You’ve been warned.
First and Only time
I will not play this course again. You can tell it is run by the state as it was not kept up at all. I refuse to spend the money again to play here. This will be my one and only time at this course.
You get what you pay for, yet it still feels over priced
Honestly, I don't even know where to begin. The 1 start for overall course condition rating really is as accurate as I can be. To help boost this however, the course should 100% invest in artificial (mini-golf style) turf for their putting greens and their Tee Boxes. I really would add at least 1.5 to 2 additional stars to the overall course conditions rating if this were the case.
Course is municipal so it's hard to complain... but I mean come on, why even have putting greens if there in that rough of shape. The bunkers were surprisingly the most well maintained aspect of the course, which is actually saying something. Take ponkapoag in Canton for example, course conditions are overall better but the bunkers there are garbage. So I think there are the makings for a half way decent course with little to no maintenance just by adding some socially turf on a few small parts of the course as noted above.
The reason I say the price still isn't worth it, is because I was picturing myself as sometime starting out trying to learn golf (when you're typically playing the less expensive courses) and I feel this course is in such rough shape that it is going to add additional unnecessary complexity for a beginner to learn on actually hurting the beginners ability to get better and add additional frustrations.
THE GREENS ARE A MESS
SORRY TO REPORT THIS ONCE NICE COURCE IS A MESS ...TOTALLT GONE TO THE WEEDS
Don't even bother putting
The "greens" were mostly sand, except for the two or three temporary greens. Don't go here if you want to work on your putting game. Very few of the greens are actually potable. See my pictures in this review. When I checked in, I asked if there was anything I need to know about the course. The gentleman replied, "We ARE a municipal course. There may be some brown spots on the greens." That was an understatement. It was a "Hot Deal" and I wanted to try a new course.
A golf course???
Winding long course with poor markings and signage, the greens keeper believes crab grass is an acceptable playing surface both on the greens and in the fairway - the fairways and rough are indecipherable. Where greens were totally burnt out they spray painted fake ones in uncut crabgrass. The only ground crew member I saw working was chopping firewood in the woods behind the 13th - the others were hanging out in their carts watching the driving range. The geese poop everywhere- this place is so depressing in form and function- it is a perfect representation of not caring combined with an ability to be totally negligent. Not a golf course -
