Avoid
Gave this course a first time try. Flat, easy to walk, and that's the end of the positives.
Fairways - little if any grass. Heavy equipment tire marks on several holes. Mostly mud and caked ground. No roll, balls plugging in the middle of the "fairway". Open sprinkler heads in the greens. Sand traps not maintained and basically gravel. Left after 9. Pace of play awful. Ranger tried to do a good job pairing people up and keeping the flow going - not successful. Not to return.
Current condition
The course has been flooded several times this year due to the excessive rainfall. Norwood Country Club is built on a swamp. Therefore, it floods, and frequently this summer. The Fairways are junk, the greens are all they have left as they succumb to crabgrass. It doesn't appear they are putting any effort at all into restoration and doing as much as they can before the seasonal change. After today, I wouldn't be surprised if N.C C. got sold to developers this winter.
Not Bad at all
I had to see for myself, the course was closed for 4 weeks due to the flood. They are giving out discounted rates as they work very hard on the fairways of holes that were flooded. The greens are awesome, tee boxes level and overall not too bad at all. Loved the staff, and the cold beer afterwards.
First timer
A couple friends and I decided to try out Norwood Country Club, we are brand new to the game of golf so we’re trying out a few different courses to try and get an understanding for the game and further our skills at different pars. As a result of us being beginners we try to tee off during the evening so we do not hold up any experienced players.
We started on the back nine due to a class that was schedule around the same time as our tee time, which is not a problem whatsoever.
Hole 9 was green and in pretty good condition, after hole nine all of the hole were full of dirt on the fairway and barely any green. The green it self was in pretty good condition. But as I said we are new golfers so course conditions are obviously not going to be a huge problem for us
As we started there were golfers behind us but they were also somewhat beginners so they understood it may take us longer than usual, after a little while we let them jump ahead of us so they did not have to wait on us to finish a hole.
After sometime there we were on the fairway about to hit our balls when, one man of a group of three yelled to us “what the f are you doing on a golf course”. We finished our hole and moved on
The staff was super friendly and very helpful as I told them we were new to golf so they helped us out in anyway they could. A friend needed rental clubs and they had them ready for us before we got there, the man at the pro shop also walked us to our carts and directed us to hole 9 and told us if we need any help through the course to just call and he will do what he can.
The only reason I would not recommend this to a friend is because of all the airplanes flying overhead (obviously not the courses fault) , and the course conditions.
Terrible conditions
I am a new golfer and have played here a few times before the course flooded.. some of the holes have no grass in the fairways now. Hopefully they will close some of the holes and fix the course.
Rough shape but nice course
The starter here is a wicked grouch. No hello, just a “no booze in the bags right?!” And it was 7:45am. The guy inside was really nice and said the course was in rough shape due to weather…he was very accurate. The third hole was a swamp. We picked up and played through to 4. I would hit a 200yd drive down the fairway to end up an inch under mid/water. Lost 5 balls in open play. In better conditions this course has tremendous potential but I won’t be going back this season.
