Cow pasture
Once a gem now a overpriced dissapointment. The fairsways lacked any consistency as did the greens. This was my home cause back in the 90s and it was in better shape but not by much. Big bald spots on the greens, had to roll the ball rule because of the lack of grass to play off. Cart path only added to the frustration and slow play as many senior golfers slowly made there way across the course.
Asked why cart path only, supers decision I was told . They could've done 90° rule as most areas are tree lined on all sides and you wouldn't hurt anything by driving on the far edge. Also the town had a water ban in effect. They have several ponds to pull from, all were at low levels adding to the poor conditions. Sand traps were stony, I'm not a snob, blue collar working guy, but have played for many years in all kinds of weather and conditions. All I can say it's like our country, not in the best shape!
Drought
They are doing the best they can considering the drought. Course is not in the best of shape for $80+. Carts are basic, no water on the course, no beer cart,
I get the water situation but how about a break in the greens fees to account for that.
Always enjoy playing Pembroke
Pembroke has one of the best layouts around. Yes it's burnt out in a lot of areas but many courses are right now given the insane drought. Always treated great by the Pro Shop and starters. Cart path only all the time but I'm used to it at this point.
Hidden Gem
Pembroke is sort of the "forgotten course" in the area. It doesn't get as much play as it should, but it's a fun course to play. Our group of seniors play the forward tees and that's plenty long for us; but it be a challenge from the back tees distance-wise. We enjoy Pembroke!
Course is very dry, but holding up okay. One green had bare spots, others were fine. Golf carts are in poor shape and some structures needed minor repairs. I hope they are not in financial trouble. A few things fixed and it would be a 5 star review.
Better off walking
$90 for cart path only is robbery. Severely affected pace of play and could not tell what they were protecting, course itself not in great shape. We also weren’t told it was cart path only until the first tee. Will not return which is unfortunate because the staff was very nice from pro shop to starter to bar staff, all friendly.
Course Overrated
This course has terrible greens, most were dry, limited turf in areas and down to numerous dirt spotting. Fairways were fair, has been hot but other courses around were not as dry as Pembroke.
Layout is good, but should not be rated a 4 star course
Disappointed
I played here a few weeks ago for the first time in many years it was okay, however when I played again on July 27th the first thing I noticed was the "Cart Path Only" signs were up again. There has been very little rain and the conditions did not require the cart path only rule. So I asked in the pro shop and at the starters booth the same question. Why? both answered that it was the superintendents order. This causes the slow pace of play and the course was in rough shape anyway. Greens were in bad condition all over. I was disappointed because I like this course but until the superintendent gets off this cart part only kick when the course is dry and by the way his staff was very gruff and the young kids at the pro shop and starters booth were very friendly and helpful.
Not worth the price
Not worth the $90 unfortunately. Course has a lot of potential, but was disappointed with the overall conditions. Bunkers were inconsistent and a number of dead spots, especially around the greens. Even driving into the course, it just has a rundown appearance. I would like to play the course again because it’s a good challenge, but only if conditions improve or rates are reduced.
Really gone down hill...
I have played this course for years and was sad to see how the new mgt has let the course really fall off. Pembroke was never a top notch course but it was a reasonable price and open lay out that led to many a fun round with friends over the years.
I have been avoiding Pembroke as they keep increasing prices but had some time the other day and got a decent rate of $65 of 18 w/ a cart. Wow was the course beat up and it looks like they are not even making attempts to address it.
Not planning on going back anytime soon with the greens being all jacked up and them trying to price gouge people.
Meh...
Early tee times can be a bit fickle but this was far more. I've grounds crew were not at all accommodating to golfers....a guy grinding in the bunker during our putts, a ride on mower literally 3 feet from us on an approach, watering the green on 17 while we're teeing off....the worst part? No notice before the round and no apology from this staff. If they gave us the heads up on a Friday morning, I'd have zero problem but that wasn't the case here. I'll probably play here again just because of the location but if there's time elsewhere I'm taking it.
