Really bad conditions
Haven’t played here in 4 years. Conditions used to be bad but now they are even worse. They don’t seem to take care of the course. Won’t be back.
Pretty solid layout, in good condition
Although I usually play here 2-3 times a year, I hadn't been in a couple of years. Was pleased to see it was in pretty good condition especially given the crazy and wet weather lately. Greens were rolling fine, fairways good in general. It's a good and slightly challenging layout, I especially like the par 3s. The longer #3 is a good challenge especially from the Blues, #7 is a fun short test, 11 is pretty downhiller over a pond, and 17 is a straightforward mid to long iron. Staff was friendly. Only issue is it was a little pricey at $85 given it was same price to walk or ride.
Good layout, average conditions, poor bunkers, poor amenities
Course could be really nice if they invested in the rough (which is often rocks and dirt), greens to some degree, and the off course amenities.
The pro shop is straight out of the 90s with basically zero options for food and beverage. Also no water on the course to refill.
Mostly Excellent Conditions - No Water
Except for 1 green, the conditions were excellent. The one green had some mud/bare/no turf spots in one of the outer sections, not near the cup. All other parts of the course were in very good to excellent condition. Even though the course was dry and not soggy, cart-path only for carts on this day.
Pleasant and friendly staff.
My only complaint is that as Covid restrictions are slowly being lifted, while other courses have started returning to normal with water stations, Pembroke has yet to to do this. Bring plenty of water if your are here on a hot day.
Looooong course
I forgot how long this course is, even from the whites. Multiple 430 yd par 4s. If you don’t have a good driver game, forget getting there in 2. Plus the greens, though large, have a lot of slope in them, a few even sloping hard away. Very tough to hold. But, still a fun course to play as the fairways are fairly generous.
Hot day/cart path only
Very smart decision by the club to protect the fairways, which are in terrific shape by requiring cart path only on a 90+ degree day. Some players decided to ignore this despite a written notice on the carts, and a polite reminder by the starter on the first tee. Curious that club staff rode past carts in the middle of the fairway without stopping to remind players to remain on the cart path. The pro shop attendant asked if I had water when I checked in, a very good question on such a hot day. The greens were a little slow and spongy, but they roll true. Quick round even staying on the cart path, well under four hours.
Gem in the woods
Pembroke has a sense of order to it throughout the entire round. From the first hole with it’s open invitation to bomb a long tee shot to the 18 th with its invitation to try and hit the par five in two! The true star of the operation was the starter Mr. Ned who made you feel comfortable about golf and life in general. So go play Pembroke for an enjoyable day on the links!
Good Round
My only complaint is I booked a solo round and got paired with another group. I prefer to play solo when I don't have a buddy with me. I don't play well when I'm paired with people I don't know. As a paying customer I just want to be able to enjoy my round.. Otherwise, the course was in good shape and I recommend it.
