Wallinwood Springs Golf Club

About
Wallinwood Springs Golf Club is bordered by the scenic Grand River on its eastern side. The challenging layout boasts an island green, an island tee, and a peninsula fairway. The golf course has two distinctly different nines, beginning with an open Scottish-links layout before moving onto the back nine, which is enclosed by mature trees. Wind definitely plays a role on the front nine and on the backside of the course there is a 26-acre, man-made lake, where if you're not careful you'll be met with a watery grave on five holes. Extensive mounding is paired with 30 strategically placed sand traps to provide even more challenges. The most difficult hole on the golf course is the par-4 16th, which stretches to more than 400 yards. Golfers will need a long, straight drive from the island tee in order to avoid the water on both sides of the fairway.

Course fairways
Fairways were in rough shape, lots of weeds, somewhat dry, but the layout is awesome. It’s very beautiful on the course, especially with the water. I think it could just use a little more care and water, maybe more sand in traps, with less weeds.
Course conditions continue to decline
Used to play here quite often 8-10 years ago. A real shame how this course has down hill. A pretty descent layout, but the conditions are terrible (especially the back 9). If the conditions continue to decline, they might as well close the course and build homes on the land.

Old Reliable - Wallinwood Springs
Most of the reviews likely focus on the Jekyll and Hyde aspect of their two nine hole layouts here but we walked the 1st 9 this morning so I'll only comment on the tamer of those 2 characters.
It's a good test and once you've played it once you can really attack it and try to score a number. 41 today was best of the year and I left my driver in the car on purpose. It's not a long course and if you can get off the tee 200 yards or 225 you are AOK to still score. Don't need the driver so was my 1st round likely ever I tried to hit hybrids and long irons off the tee. Didn't lose a ball and scored well, used a few more clubs than I would normally as well.
The par 3 3rd and par 4 9th are my favs here on this route. 3 is along par3 w/ bunker protecting and roll up style shots and played 215 yards today. Awesome test. 9 is a dogleg left and a kidney bean shaped tight green and a great looking chute from the back tees on the tee shot.
It's such a pleasant walk, not too hilly and very close green to tee box walks. We were alone out there this morning and played in 1 hour and 40 minutes w/o any rushing around. Greens were in very good shape w/ how much play the 1st 9 has gotten due to flooding on the back earlier in the year. Greens were soft, green and not many pitch marks so someone is working hard out there to keep them looking good.

Thank you for reviewing us. We see you rated the course 3-stars and are interested in learning what we can do to improve before your next round. Course conditions
Clubhouse looked worn. Not what you would imagine it should look like. Grounds crew could spend a day around the exterior and spruce it up instead of weed walking around ponds. Staff was more than friendly. A+ . No mask but that didn't bother me. Front 9 in much better shape than the back. Doubt if ill be back anytime soon.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass along your feedback to the staff so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting us!
The Back 11
Although the day was hot and muggy, we were glad to get out and would recommend Wallinwood to others. The front 7 were relatively easy, straight forward and encouraging, but the back 11 were filled with very challenging water and woods hazards and a couple that were the result of course pitfalls like a green that was brown dirt and a couple holes where the water covered too much of the fairway and a couple where the geese left so many rectal emissions that it was nearly impossible to keep your balls from getting terdy! We were glad to be done, and yet strangely eager to play there again... and we will! Quite honestly,, some of the back holes were too much for my meager talents to handle.
Nice course but needs some care.
Nice course but needs some care. Traps are horrible with stones and rocks and weeds in them and cart paths are rough along with overgrown Branches in the way of them. Also a couple fairways and a green by the river were destroyed by flooding I’m guessing

Back nine is brutal
Front nine is beautiful! We loved the course for the first 9 holes! When we got to 10 the “green” was basically sandy rocks not sure how you mess that up. 11 the rough was better taken care of than the fairway, fairway was spotty with mucky patches. Cup placement was difficult on the back nine for the most part being close to the fringe at points.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. We have projects underway to recover the tee boxes, fairways, greens, and sandtraps.. We hope you'll bear with us through this transition and give us another try in the near future. Thanks for choosing Wallinwood Springs Golf Club.
Course conditions
Well kept. Back 9 has some rough flood damaged areas but otherwise nice.

Long and not maintained
All bunkers were a joke, cheap sand and not enough of it all filled with water. One green was dirt literally and the next fairway had a few patches of crabgrass in a dirt desert. Cups were in the same position for weeks it seemed because lips were beat up on every hole. 18 took over five hour because they packed us on and the course is very long for conditions. Hopefully they start taking care of this beautiful land before people like me play it and never return.

Bargain golf
Picked Wallingwood Springs in a last minute decision to play on the holiday weekend. Good price on Golf Now, but I still question the decision. Course has taken quite a hit with extremely wet spring and now hot summer. Back nine was not worth the play.
Would have been nice to have staff suggest playing front twice due to poor conditions on back.

Needs maintenance
After going around two fivesomes pace was good for our foursome. The course has been deteriorating for the past few years. The course has a great layout that isn't maintained with trees blocking the use of at least one of the back tees and the greens were bad with one having no grass. Even for the price I paid it is becoming not worth it to play there.

Worth it - easily
Very nice course and prices are great. Course in good shape.
Goid round
Nice course… Nice price. The front nine is very open and forgiving but enjoyably laid out. The back nine definitely presents challenges, with a lot of water and tight fairways . Overall a great course and close to home which is a plus. We would definitely play here again.
Overall rating
Course is in beautiful shape. Incredible drainage for being build on several lakes and along side the river. Course, food and beverage prices are spot on or even under what you would expect.
