Wallinwood Springs Golf Club
About
Wallinwood Springs Golf Club is bordered by the scenic Grand River on its eastern side. The challenging layout boasts an island green, an island tee, and a peninsula fairway. The golf course has two distinctly different nines, beginning with an open Scottish-links layout before moving onto the back nine, which is enclosed by mature trees. Wind definitely plays a role on the front nine and on the backside of the course there is a 26-acre, man-made lake, where if you're not careful you'll be met with a watery grave on five holes. Extensive mounding is paired with 30 strategically placed sand traps to provide even more challenges. The most difficult hole on the golf course is the par-4 16th, which stretches to more than 400 yards. Golfers will need a long, straight drive from the island tee in order to avoid the water on both sides of the fairway.

Decent challenge
I'll get the negatives out of the way first. The club house is a little dated, could use some updating, but that's minor. The back nine is challenging enough on its own, but it seems to be not as well groomed as the front nine, which could affect your score. I had issues on a couple of greens with my ball skipping a little because the grass needed some attention. It seemed a little too long for how dry it was. You could compare it to running your hand over your face when your stubble is about day or so old, how you seem to have to force your fingers past the stubble...
That said, it's a beautiful course. The front nine plays well. It's well maintained. The greens are in good shape. I would recommend to anyone who is a novice player, such as myself, to play the back nine first... You'll finish stronger and more confident if you finish on the front nine.
Going down hill
It seems Wallinwood is getting worse every year. The pro shop is barren. There is not soap/water in the ball washers. Overall the facilities seem to be in the decline. I would not recommend this course anymore. It is too bad because it used to be very nice. I wonder is management has given up.
Wallin Wood in April
First time out for the 2015 had us at Wallingwood in Jenison MI. Picture perfect day with the sun out and 75 degrees.
Front nine is a bit more open than the back. When the late spring rains come, the back will have even more water surrounding the fairways and greens. More mosquitos too!
Pace of play was very slow. Took nearly five hours to play 18 holes. Would have been nice to have a ranger out to speed things up a bit. This course should take no more than 4:00 to 4:15. Even less if empty.
Greens were quicker than expected for mid-April...that is a good thing in my book.
Fun Course,Beautiful Scenery
I've only played this course twice, but I loved it both times. The holes are relatively straightforward for the most part, but they have enough undulations and hazards to keep it fun and challenging. The track itself is well maintained, although one hole has earned a reputation for catching a lot of goose droppings (which I didn't see this time). Set along the grand river, the areas around the course are generally beautiful, particularly looking out over the water on your somewhat lengthy trek from the 11th green to the 12th tee in late afternoon.
Fallen from grace
The course has a fun layout, especially the back nine. However, the course maintenance is terrible. It's clear they are squeezing as much money as they can and care nothing for the quality of the course. If you're looking for a last minute round, it will do, otherwise I'd schedule some where else.
I had low expectations and was still disappointed
no one was at the clubhouse when I arrived for my tee time. Someone finally arrived to open the doors 45 minutes after my tee time was supposed to be. Conditions and layout were blah.
Tough Back 9
the back 9 is challaging with lots of water and narrow fairways.
Nice course
Enjoyable round, the staff was extremely helpful. Allowed us to play as a single, with my wife riding along. Very enjoyable to play right along the Grand river.
course needs work
course needs to be better maintained. front nine is okay but the back needs work. cart paths very rough need to be repaved rocks in the bunkers greens are okay.
Needs some work
I think the course needs an influx of some money. Traps not maintained, dead branches not picked up, just not in good shape.
Slo motion
Ranger a waste of money. Did not speed up play. Weed traps vs sand. Red stake s down
good course but
Good course but they have a geese problem. At one point I had to pick my ball up from what the geese left on the ground. Not sure what the cours ecan do but it would be a great improvement to the course if they could chase them away
pretty tough for the average golfer
I lost 10 balls - most of them on the back where there are a ton of trees and plenty of water. good course though. :-)
Difficult course
Do not show up late to your tee time when using a golfnow tee time. I called ahead to let them know I'd be a few minutes that due to travel and the owner/manager ES very hostile. I thought I was doing the right thing by letting them know I'd be a few minutes late with my nephew and they almost didn't accommodate us. There was a slight misunderstanding due to a different late tee time, who was also using golfnow. In the end, show up on time
Nothing to write home about.
Course was in fair condition. Everything was nice and green but fairway grass is longer than expected and the greens were pretty slow. Probably only rolling to about 7-8 on the stimpmeter. If you had a 10 ft putt you had to hit to go 13 ft just to get to the hole. The holes with ponds on them all have geese all over the place making it likely that you will be either walking in goose droppings or hitting your ball from it. Not very enjoyable to see or to smell!! The bunkers are filled with dirt and gravel with no sand found anywhere. If you dont care about your clubs you can try and play out of them otherwise take a drop outside the bunkers. The course also has gas golf carts that are noisey and need to be replaced with electric. About 12 yrs ago this was a beautiful course and could be again but the current owners either dont have the money needed to bring it back or just dont care to. Its a great layout playing along the Grand River and through and around quite a few gravel pit ponds making for a scenic course. Its just that the overall condition of the course is hurting. It feels more like a city owned course and not the great course it once was.
Very interesting courses
One of my favorites. Front and back so different. A bit of everything.
Great shape on greens and fairways
Course is in great shape on the fairways and greens. Ruff starting to dry out and get hard. Back nine has recovered nicely from last years flooding. Staff was very friendly . Hope they put the water to the course the next two weeks so it stays in its great shape for upcoming outing.
Sloooow play
Slow play, didn't pair smaller groups together but good greens
Good course awful desk attendant
The course is great and was in good condition but the service at the desk was awful. It was a girl that was working and when I walked in, it wasn't until I was standing at the desk for several seconds before she looked up from her cell phone to help me. Zero smile or politeness. Then at the turn I went back in to get a water and no one was there. I stood there for maybe 2 minutes before I walked back out and continued with no water.
