Bruce Hills Golf Club
About
Bruce Hills Golf Course is located in the north metro Detroit area near Romeo. Mature trees are scattered throughout the course, providing shade and a peacefully secluded feel. The par-70 layout is relatively short at only 5,630 yards form the back tees, making it an ideal round for beginners but it still provides good practice and a quick round for more advanced players. The golf course sprawls across a diverse terrain that allows for downhill and uphill approaches to the small, round greens, which are often sloped from back to front. Keeping the ball below the hole is the key to scoring well on this golf course. Bruce Hills' player-friendly layout only has four bunkers but water comes into play on 12 holes, providing the bulk of the course's challenges.

Friendly staff, clean course
Great staff and clean course! Good times great price
Hidden Gem
First time playing here, was recommended by a friend. Has some challenges but also has scoring holes.
Staff is very friendly and helpful, price was great. Course was in good shape and greens were good.
Will definitely play there again.
Great course
We love playing here. It is challenging and fun. Staff is friendly and helpful. Great value and fun course.
A must play
Such an awesome course for the money... not terribly difficult, but lots of challenges throughout... the greens can be particularly brutal, depending on the pin placement and speeds. Water and sand on almost every hole tests your accuracy. Will definitely be a return customer.
Nice course, good value
Nice course. Good value. Interesting layout.
Course design has water or bunkers that require you to underclub to stay out of trouble. Not an issue. Adds to the challenge. Fairways and tee boxes in good shape. Greens were consistent in speed.
I’ll go back.
Good value
Other reviews of this course seem quite accurate to me. Short course (only 2 sets of tees), but the layout is challenging. Water plays into most holes and very few holes are straight. Greens are small with some tricky pin placements on the day we played. For the time of year, I was pleased with the overall conditions. One other review that I saw mentioned the poor cart path conditions, which was absolutely true. The asphalt path in many spots felt a lot like our current Michigan roads!! Eventually I just started driving on the side of them because it was so bumpy.
Pace of play was pretty slow, but the frost delay to start was a factor in that.
Cart paths aside, still avoid value for the price we paid (which wasn’t even a hot deal).
Great for the price
Got on for a hot deal and was very pleased. The course is in great condition considering it's still early spring, especially considering the weather we've been having. In years past there has been major drainage issues on a few holes but it looks like they're getting that figured out. Overall very pleased with the course
Bruce hills
Short tough course. Small greens. Well maintained and great people
great value for the money
play this course at least a few times a year. Fair amount of challenge with varying hole length and locations. Important to keep the ball below the hole, as some holes are cut right against a slope. Theres also hazards all around that test all aspects of ball striking. Course is always well maintained and staff is friendly enough.
Shhhh... Don't Tell Anyone About Bruce Hills
I'm hesitant to leave a good review for Bruce Hills, not because they don't deserve it, but simply because I don't want to it to become too crowded. Such an awesome course for the money... not terribly difficult, but lots of challenges throughout... the greens can be particularly brutal, depending on the pin placement and speeds. And being a little "off the beaten path" makes it easy to get a tee-time or even just walk-on. So definitely add Bruce Hills to your list of great local courses... just don't tell anyone else. ;-)
Disappointed
First off, I was hoping for a "hidden gem" tucked away in the woods like nearby Heather Hills.
This place was not that. I am a bit disappointed in you guys, these reviews made it sound like decent place. The quirky layout felt cramped and weird. The first hole is a 3 wood to reach the par 4 so already there is unease at the tee box with groups of T-shirt and Jorts types telling me to hit. Most of the front 9 is blind tee shots to layup to water, followed by blind approach shots. You can usually tell where to hit, but can't see the ball land. This is okay on a few holes...but it becomes excessive here. It's especially frustrating to find collection areas in low spots where 2 or 3 holes converge and there's carts everywhere with people looking for their ball which they couldn't see land from the tee.
But some people like that type of tricky layout and with only ~5,700 yards to work with, I guess they needed to make it more challenging. It's not easy despite the low slope/yardage.
The conditions were terrible. Greens were bumpy and soft, "fairways" were worn and inconsistent. Lots of overgrown and unkept areas that make the course look messy. I'll never understand that. Why? Just get a wee whacked and tidy up a bit.
Every bridge or railing was falling apart, every cart path was basically just a collection of broken concrete.
But by far the worst thing is the tee boxes. They all looked like the morning after at a college frat house. Just divots, broken tees, unkept grass and very uneven.
I guess for $35 on a Saturday morning I shouldn't have expected much, but all the reviews on here make it sound like a nice course. It's not. It's a place to play your golf league and drink beers.
Hamburger at the turn was great! Also, the beverage cart came to us every 3rd hole which was awesome!
