About

Par 70
Length 5630 yards

Rating 67.2

Bruce Hills Golf Course is located in the north metro Detroit area near Romeo. Mature trees are scattered throughout the course, providing shade and a peacefully secluded feel. The par-70 layout is relatively short at only 5,630 yards form the back tees, making it an ideal round for beginners but it still provides good practice and a quick round for more advanced players. The golf course sprawls across a diverse terrain that allows for downhill and uphill approaches to the small, round greens, which are often sloped from back to front. Keeping the ball below the hole is the key to scoring well on this golf course. Bruce Hills' player-friendly layout only has four bunkers but water comes into play on 12 holes, providing the bulk of the course's challenges.

Historic Course and Friendly Staff

I've played this course at least 15 times now and every time I always have a good experience. I learned to play golf on this course with my dad and recently took my son, it was a really amazing experience!

Do Not Waste Your Time or Money

I have golfed this course many times between booking a tee time to attending multiple organized outings, so it is not like I have just had one bad experience at Bruce Hills.

I want to start by saying this… If you are seeing high reviews on here, it is most likely from either the staff or owner asking people to go write positive reviews to outweigh the negative ones.

They are constantly overbooking tee times. If you look at the first two photos.. you can see that I booked a tee time for 2:00 PM and still did not tee off at 2:29 PM (second photo). The third photo my friend and I finally made it onto the tee box at 2:37 PM. They booked two foursomes, yes two, at the same time as us.

I have since golfed here and had the SAME issue. So, the fact that these screenshots are from May 2024 is irrelevant. This was just the only photo evidence that I had of the delays.

For as much overbooking as they do, they should be able to update their clubhouse by now, or at least replace the musty carpeting from 1995.

The pace of play is awful. This place is a magnet for frat boys that have never swung a golf club in their life, but are set out on a mission to see how many beers and glizzies they can choke down in one round. It’s a bad day to be a beer, am I right?

The etiquette of the golfers that play at this place is non-existent. It feels like you’re in the middle of a driving range dodging balls from other fairways, with no courtesy fore warnings.

You want to complain to the ranger? Good luck complaining to a 16-year-old that is just as afraid of confrontation as Bruce Hills is of a bad review.

The cart paths are non-existent in certain areas, or so rugged that the hubcaps were flying off of the golf carts on more than one occasion. I legitimately cannot make this up. (Look at the 4th photo to see the “cart path” from last weekend). If you have a magnet on your range finder, don’t use it because it will bounce off when you are driving on the cart path. The cart paths feel more like off-roading honestly.

I would not golf this course unless you bring some beach toys so you can build a sand castle in the crusty fairways and tee boxes to occupy your time while you wait for the inevitable back up.

Tee boxes really need some work, not level and patchy. My wife and I just played from wherever the tee was best and ignored trhe markers.

Overall, I had a good experience

Had a great round playing 18 solo. Pace of play was smooth, especially after a thoughtful group let me play through. Only complaint — the grounds crew was working on the greens and rolled up loudly just as I was teeing off. A bit disruptive and distracting, but overall a beautiful day and enjoyable course.

Not worth the cost

Paid $40 to play nine holes and the course is in terrible condition. There was ground under a pair everywhere. The fairways weren’t cut. The greens were full of pitch marks and the cartpath are rough to write on. This is definitely not worth the money that they charged should’ve only been like $20 at most. Not sure why this course is so bad when it’s owned by the same people as golden Hawk, which is a pretty nice course.

Slow play, poor teeboxes

Pace of play was brutal, front 9 took nearly 3 hours, then there was a 30-minute wait to even tee off on 10.

Wasn't impressed with condition of tee boxes either, several of them were nearly all dirt/sand with minimal amounts of grass.

Sunday Golf

Had a wait at every single hole. Went to club house between hole 9 and 10. Staff stated they pretty much sent everyone home. No food... just sold last hot dog. They put more hotdogs on and I asked if they would bring it out to my hole. They were very nice and did bring a hitdog out to me. No golf cart girl. Will not go back again. Went twice and with times were a wait at every single hole

Excceded Expectations

Bruce Hills exceeded all expectations! This course is a perfect mix of challenging and relaxing, with beautiful tree-lined fairways, rolling hills, and just enough water to keep things interesting. The layout might be a bit shorter, but it forces you to think and place your shots. Perfect for both seasoned players and those just out for a fun round.

The greens were in great shape, the fairways were well-maintained, and the pace of play was smooth when we went—definitely recommend a weekday tee time if you can swing it. Staff was super friendly, carts were clean and reliable, and the clubhouse has a cozy, welcoming feel with solid food and drinks after the round.

What really stood out was the value—you get a quality golf experience without paying premium course prices. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Bruce Hills is a place you’ll want to come back to.

Highly recommend. Already planning our next round

WORST managed course I’ve EVER played

WORST managed course I’ve EVER played.

July 19, 2025 Saturday 10:08am tee time

Teed off at 10:15am.

3.5 hours for the front 9.

Bachelor Party and Work Outing in front of us. They let them go off in groups of 5 & 6. Slow terrible players. Ranger came out to check after multiple calls to the clubhouse. Started to argue with players for questioning their methods and timing.

Drunks in front of us WAY overserved. Falling out of their carts, laying on the greens. Drove THROUGH the tee box on 1 after finishing 9th home and the ranger did nothing about it.

Beautiful course ruined by terrible management and even worse players. Tank tops, tshirts, flip flops. True out in the middle of nowhere course that belongs staying that way.

Played the back 9 as a single. Players didn’t acknowledge or offer to allow to play through. NO etiquette shown or enforced on this course.

Wasted 5 hours playing there.

I’ve played 13 other courses this year. This BY FAR is the worst one of the year.

47/44 played fairly consistently.

Tee boxes were terrible. Felt like I was in a batter’s box so much dirt. Green’s inconsistency from one hole to the next fast then super slow. Standing water multiple places with no rain in the past few days.

Bad experience

Tee time was at 10am. Didn’t tee off until 10:30ish. Supposedly there was a work outing and a bachelor party on the course before us. Didn’t matter it took almost 4 hours just to play 9. Didn’t even play the back 9 due to how long it was going to end up taking.
