Stony Creek Golf Course
About
Stony Creek is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system and many locals consider it to be one of its gems. There aren't any residences near the golf course, giving it a secluded feel and providing unhindered views from the elevated tees. The course opened in 1976 but underwent a major renovation that included re-sculpting the bunkers and reconditioning the entire golf course. The layout features several doglegs and a surprising amount of elevation changes. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones. There are also lakes and ponds that come into play on six holes on the front nine and three on the back. Stony Creek's par-3 17th is the most memorable water hole and the 14th is also notable for its tiny "postage stamp" green.

When we got to the course we were told there was a 1 hour frost delay. Therefore, it took us 6 hours to complete 18 holes because it was backup. We had 4 sets of teams waiting at every hole. Not happy with this visit!
Disappointing
The course was in decent shape, but started with a half hour delay - allegedly from frost, but my stepson was there a week previously and they had a long delay before they went out as well. As a regular golfer at different courses, it’s super frustrating to start a round late and then be backed up at holes throughout. All in all, our 9 hole round took almost 3.5 hours!! Unacceptable!!
Greens were fast. Played in may and the course was still brown and grass was patchy in some spots. Ground was super hard so huge bounces making it hard to hold the greens. Good for the time of year.
Park Setting
Stony Creek golf course is in the middle of a humongous state park where the ambient noise of day-to-day life are erased. Wildlife abounds all around you and meticulously. Kept park with great character and excellent greens. Both novice an expert golfers will find a lot to enjoy, even the hazards are in good shape with real sand in the traps. It’s worth the trip.
Slow play. Course was in ok shape
Took over 4.5 hours to play. Waited on almost every shot. Course was in ok shape. Fairways were green, but not mowed. Greens were as hard as concrete, did not hold, and were not overly quick. A couple greens were hit pretty hard by fungus and they may lose a section. 16th tee box was almost all dirt. They need to cut down a large amount of trees in order to help the course.
Stoney
Each year this course gets better and better. Excellent layout, challenging to every level of player, great hot dogs, friendly prople and an excellent value!!!
Good golf in April
Our tee time was 10:08 we played in 4 hours. Course is in great shape for April there is some wet spots and a couple of tee boxes need some attention. The greens were in great shape for so early in the year. As far as staff they were courteous and professional but I think this early in year with this unexpected weather they might have been short staffed.
Solid course
Nice course, well maintained for season opening. Tee sheet was stacked and line to get into park was long but solid golf course otherwise
Underwhelming and Overbooked
Disclaimer - golfed this course the afternoon of the first nice Saturday of the year, so most courses were probably booked and getting back into things.
Traffic at the entrance of Stony Creek Metropark was standstill for 20 minutes. The course was definitely overbooked - didn’t start our round until at least 30-45 after our tee time. Staff behind the main counter were pretty rude. Tee boxes were shredded up. Greens and sand in decent condition. No beer cart. Overall slow play, lots of groups walking and holding things up.
It’s unfortunate that I had this experience, because the pricing was pretty reasonable and the course layout is nice. There’s so much potential but I don’t see myself going back here anytime soon.
