North/South at Tanglewood - The Lion
About
Opened in 1991, the North and South Courses were Tanglewood's original championship 18-hole course before the West nine was added in 1995. All 27 holes are known as "The Lion." The North is the gentlest of the three nines and the South is a mix of trees and water while the West has water on almost every hole. The North/South course has a gently rolling terrain that doesn't offer dramatic elevation changes but it also makes a flat lie hard to find. The undulating landscape also gives a bowl-shape to most of the holes that enclose errant balls and bring them back into play. The South nine incorporates a variety of wetlands, offering a pond or marsh hovering around many of the greens. The club is consistently ranked as one of the best public golf courses in the metro Detroit area.

Great Way to Start A Day
Tee off was at 7:20 AM. We were load up our clubs and proceed directly to the tee box. Our pace of play was good - completed 18 holes in 3 hours 35 minutes. Considering the amount of rain recently the course was in excellent shape. Fairways were green and lush and so were the greens. There was some spots that were extremely wet but did not impact play. We paid $17 for cart and 18. You would be hard pressed to find a better deal for course of Tanglewood's caliber.
Outstanding course...
Absolutely one of my favorite courses. Beautifully manicured with amazing views. Highly recommend.
Good Value
I played as a single. They paired me with a threesome. The course was in good condition. Pace of play was around 4-½ hours on a Sunday afternoon.
Tanglewood golf course South Lyon Michigan
I selected this course at the last minute. I have driven by numerous times and always thought what it would be like to play. after playing the course I found it in great shape with great people. afternoon around I enjoy a cold beverage and a good burger. overall I would highly recommend Tanglewood golf course.
Great Course
I thought this was a great course. Maintained very well and played very fair. We did 18 in 3 1/2 hours which was amazing on a 73 degree sunny Saturday afternoon. Course seems to be very well run, will be back on a regular basis.
Poor Management
Arrived for our round a few minutes late which is entirely our fault. Most courses would be understanding that we were held up by traffic but not here. First of all, it was a Monday morning, c'mon now. When we went to check in, a man, who thought he would try and ruin our round for being 5 mins late, began to hassle us and decided to make us wait another 10 minutes, just so we would be behind a senior women's league that was to go off. From the start this orange shirted fella was nothing but rude. It was our fault for arriving late 100% but there are ways to treat people and ways not to, this was not one of them. Naturally, we made our way around the league on the front, never causing a hold up to anyone else on the course. When making the turn we were made to wait for the league to catch and tee off of 10 North while we sat and watched 5+ groups of women go before us. The women's league played with excellent pace and it was not a problem from there. In conclusion, none of us, nor the group behind us will be back to this course because of this poor management and people skills of the so called "pro" or assistant "pro".
slow green
entire course was good but Green was too slow. need more control the status of green
Early season golf in Southeast Michigan
Haven't played the course in a few years...still a good course. Pretty respectable conditions considering the course has only been open for a few weeks. Only issues were the temporary green on #9 of North course and construction for new homes being built
Great course
Wonderful course, just houses are being build around the course.
golf
nice course but too early in the season greens are a little frost bit everybody was very nice and helpful I will return to this course
Fantastic Shape
Course is in fantastic shape for fall. Greens are smooth and in great condition. Will be coming back for sure .
Good course
Totally this is a good course and cost performance is much reasonable.
Only what I had an issue to play there was difficult to find the accurate yardage to hit into green.
Tanglewood a great place to play
We golfed all 3 nines and found the course to be in great shape and the greens were tough but fair. Had a wonderfull time.
Great Course in Novi Area
We were pleasantly surprised at how immaculate the course was for October golf. We will definitely be back next year and do all 27 holes.
Don't miss out this fall!
The course is in Great shape!!!!! The greens are vary fast and also in great shape!
Good variety
Prefer the west course which unfortunately was not available. Greens were a little rough. Rainy conditions
Very Dissappointed
Paired with 2 Beginner golfers. They were all over the first 9 holes. They were kind to let me go ahead of them by myself. Got to the back nine and after 3 holes I find 2 groups of foursomes waiting on the tee in all the holes ahead of me. An outing was started. I could wait anymore and went to the clubhouse. The starter made it sound like that I'm at fault. I didn't even get a refund for 9 holes. Just walked away angry. Nobody told me about the outing before I started.
Nice course but....the greens
On the day I played, the greens were extremely long which made getting a good roll on tough greens impossible. Pace of play was great as I played in 2 and half hours on a busy day as a single. Have to work the ball both directions and overall a nice course. Looks like they are redesigning a hole on the south course.
Not like the Tanglewood I know
Love playing these courses. Although a little pricey, you get return value in the course challenge and conditions. I was a little disappointed on thw condition of the North course. The greens were in bad shape. Thia is what surprised me somewhat.
Disorganized starter, need a ranger
Starter has 27 holes to manage and does it poorly. Made the turn and waited half hour just to get started again. Stuck behind party bunch playing boombox and taking their sweet time. Lack of ranger and poor starter management slowed our round to a crawl. Ended up skipping holes to get past congestion.
