Good Course
I play here often, I like when I can find deals to play here. The course likes to have 3 groups per hole which usually causes lots of waiting and back-ups on par 3's. This was a perfect time to go, not overly busy!
Sylvan Glen
Good course.
Not too tough but some holes do pose a moderate challenge.
Wonderful value
First off, I was forced to play in the rain because I pre paid days in advance and according to the refund policy I was only going to get refunded if the course was closed. Anyway, the course was great and I did enjoy it all while being drenched. I played from the back tees and experienced some challenging holes for sure. Will look forward to playing again in better conditions. I can't comment on pace of play really, because it was me and one other two some on the course.
Awful. Plain awful
Got a 4:54 tee time. Showed up 10 minutes early and there were two foursomes in front of me with tee times of 4:52 and 4:50. That's insane to think that 12 people tee off in that time period. The staff had no idea what do say to me either. It's simple, don't waste your time
Best round of the year!
Had to switch to their other course Sanctuary Lakes because no carts were being let out at Sylvan Glen. They were very accommodating to me and my foursome since I could not walk the course. Sanctuary Lakes golf course is one of the BEST courses I have played in a long time. It is a must at course and the deal through this app is spectacular! Will use this app much more frequently in the near future. Thanks! Pepsi products not my favorite and the course was very wet, but still very enjoyable.
My least favorite course in my area
Sylvan Glenn is the closest course to my house so even though it's my least favorite course in the area, I still check it out once in a while because of the convenient location and I end up regretting it every single time. It has very cooperate feel to it. There could be a women's league of walkers only and they will tell you...it's wide open, swing on up. Due to their extreme over booking of golfers the pace of play here is the absolute worst. Plus the starters start harping on you to bring the carts in when there are nearly 2 hours of light left in the evenings! Get there at 4:00 and you'll be lucky to get 12 holes in. If you can find a rare time slot in which the course is wide open, it has a pretty good layout and is pretty well groomed...just understand that you will be dealing with the most uncompassionate workers whose only concerns are to squeeze every penny they can out of you and then hurry you out as quickly as possible.
Not worth the money
This course isn't worth more then $20 to play. But they charge almost double that. They have back to back par 3's in the front 9 and back 9. Which really slows the play to a halt. Took forever. Will not go back. Sorry, I wouldn't recommend.
Slow!!!
Be prepared to spend an entire day at the course if you are playing on a weekend. We played the front nine in a little over 2:30 and the back wasn't any faster. When we made the turn I complained about the pace of play. The starter said that on the weekends, this was normal. He ended up giving me a voucher for a free round and actually said that he wouldn't play it either at that pace.
Not worth it
Even though the green were beat up from the winter, I've played this course when the green were in tip top shape, and the greens were still like carpet, bumpy, not maintained. I actually hit the green on a par 3 and the ball stuck in the green, the rain was 2 days earlier. The fairways are not short either and the rough looks like my backyard. The tee boxes are not even close to level. The sand traps are dirt traps, not sand. The only nice thing about this course is the layout, but it is not maintained well at all.
Enjoyable with Room for Improvement
I have played Sylvan Glenn hundreds of times as I grew up very close to the course. It is a very playable municipal course which recently underwent private management. This has been both good and bad as new management has done a lot to create promotions and offer specials, but at times, it does not appear as though a lot has gone into course management.
The greens are very slow. One of the reasons that I am reluctant to play the course is the green speeds will affect how I putt next time I play.
The front 9 is more difficult compared to the back 9. The front nine features six holes where water has to be carried, though it only comes into play on 2-3 holes. No. 7 and No. 8 are back-to-back Par 3's which creates backups, as do No. 4 and No. 5 which are back-to-back Par 5's and are frequently filled with golfers who incorrectly think they have the length and accuracy to go for the green in two.
The back 9 is much easier with three Par 3's and the 18th hole which plays as a Par 5 but is really a long Par 4.
The course is generally well maintained and there has been increased ranger presence on the course which helps with pace of play.
Please do not play the back tees unless you are able to shoot par. Too many people think that they have the game to play from the blue tees only to see them shank their tee ball.
Apart from a few quirks in course design, a few areas which need some maintenance, and greens which need to run faster, Sylvan is an enjoyable and playable golf course.
green lost ,( 5 or 6 )
Played here many times before, but this year they lost many of there greens to the very hard winter.
Would not play here until green problem are solved
Fun Par 5's
I have played Sylvan Glen many, many times. I enjoy the course. You can walk and play without long walks to tee boxes or many hills to climb. The front nine is more challenging, as their final 3 holes, 7-9 have two difficult Par 3's and a tough finishing Par 4 in #9. Have played White and Blue Tees. My favorite part of the course are the Par 5's. Each are protected with various obstacles, but all 4 are reachable in two, which I find fun. Not easily done, but Eagles are possible.
5 temporary greens
Golfnow should of noted 5 greens were unplayable. I would not play here until green conditions are addressed. It's only worth $20.
This course in challenging but very playable.
This course is going on my list of repeat places to play. Our foursome had a great time here. We let one twosome play though and were never pushed. I shot my lowest round of the year!
no rangers doing their job except the one collecting reciept an assiging carts
never play this course unless you have 5 hours or more to waste.
sylvan glen
Sylvan Glen is a great golf course, well maintained with a few very challenging holes. Course is always in good condition. Greens are always in good condition with medium speed. My only negative about this course is if you want to play on a weekend and you're in a hurry, go somewhere else. I teed off a half hour after my schedule tee time because it was so backed up. The round took just under 6 hours
first time here, great experience
Great time! First time at this course. Friendly people. Back nine were less busy.
Nice Course
The facility was bustling when we got there and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The course was well maintained and wide-open, making it hard to loose that occasionally mishit ball. In general a fun course for a high-handicapper.
This golf course has a unique party feel to it with the well-placed outside deck at the clubhouse. It's fun to sit there after the game and see how about 80% of golfers slice the ball off the first tee into the scattered trees or the adjacent fairway. It made me feel a little better about my golfing abilities, or lack thereof. The food was definitely above average for a public course.
Overall we really enjoyed the day and will be heading back there for more. Recommended.
Great affordable course
Great old style course that really tests all facets of your game
A more challenging course than first impression
All around good quality course. Four holes on the front nine parallel two very busy noisy roads which I find distracting. Greens are excellent despite heavy play,
I found the GM to be arrogant ,even told me his salary, $50,000 plus bonus, sure he isn't suppose to do that
