Reviews
Fun course
Nice course only 16 miles south of St. Paul. The staff is very respectful and considerate. I went on a Wednesday afternoon with practically no one on the course. Greens were a bit quick and putted very true. Fairways were in good shape as well. You get a workout just walking to the greens as most are elevated. Sort of like an upside down bowl. Will be back.
Play if price is right
M.D. is a quirky design. Lots of blind shots, hazards in middle of fairway, upsidedown raised bowl greens that require accurate aerial approach shots. Not a course for higher handicapp players. First time played this year and course was in better shape than past several. Pace was good. No drinking water on course or cart service so bring water. A good value if you pay $40 or less.
Fun to play
When I checked in I was told there was a problem with the golfnow.com software and the Mississippi Dunes computer system. There was a tournament on the course and they could only get me started 1 hour late. This however may have been due to a rain delay in the morning. The course staff made it right, they gave me a token for the range and got me out first after the tournament ended and I finished the 18 in 3 hours. Despite a course update on several holes, the playing areas are in excellent condition. The greens are fast and putting is always a challenge here. A fun course to play
Great Course
Great course. Challenging enough to lose 6 balls. The only down side was the signage marking the holes. We ended up playing holes out of order and had trouble knowing which hole we were on. One of the signs was corrected soon after we reported it.
Challenging, but in great shape.
I really enjoyed my round, although this course is very challenging. Most of the greens are elevated islands that are tough to land your approach shots on without rolling off back down the hill. The Mississippi River runs along 4 or 5 holes which provides awesome views. The overall course is is great shape from tee boxes to fairways to greens. The food I ordered was great and the service inside the restaurant was excellent too, they included pop and bottled water with my sandwich purchase at no additional cost. This is one of my favorite courses after only playing this course one time and struggling with its difficulty, loved it.
Course in Transition
They have recently reordered the holes and expanded one of them, and it is clearly a work in progress with many areas still not in final condition. Fairways and greens are generally in good shape, though.
nothing like it
I ran into the owner on the first tee & we were able to chat about the evolution on Miss.Dunes over the years. Even though he was down on the overall state of golf, he had big plans for the coming year. Even more trees & brush will be cleared away, the 9s will be switched back to the original order, & a new range will be built beyond what is now the 10th tee. The course was in pristine condition tee-to-green, & the pins were extra-tough (evidently a late season tradition), so Doc's not skimping on maintenance this late in the year. As ever, Miss.Dunes is "resistant to scoring" & actually kinda fun if you don't worry about what you shoot. There are not many Minnesota courses where you consistently have to bump-n-run & play for bogey when you miss a green. My only quibble is that I had a dog for a cart--on its last legs for sure. Maybe next year we'll see a fleet of quiet electrics too!
this course is very challenging
You don't want to be above the hole on these greens. Great course lots of fun
One of the best publics in the Twin Cities
This is one of the best public courses in the Twin Cities. It's always in great condition and the scenery along the Mississippi River are outstanding--especially in the fall. Depending on the set up, this course is moderately to extremely difficult and very fun to play. The staff is friendly and helpful. Regular price is a little steep, but if you can get a deal it's a must play. Highly recommend.
Great view of the river, very difficult greens
I have always loved the course. The $37 price made it an affordable outing!! $60 is too high. Great course.
Good conditions and great views but unwarranted trouble
The course was in excellent shape, the views were great, the greens putted true, and the holes were varied and challenging. The drawback is that the course has many difficult shots required, and one errant shot usually produces a double. I hit four drives I thought were perfect and ended up with three lost balls and one in a depression.
Play was too slow.
Only saw Ranger once in 18 holes. Play was too slow and should have been better managed.
Fantastic views, great condition and challenging
This was one of the best golf days on the road I've had in a long time. Absolutely gorgeous course, superb layout (but maybe a bit too hard for some) and in immaculate condition. Super-friendly folks and a good deal. My one quibble is the amount of undulation in the greens. It was ridiculous on a lot of them and overall seemed gimmicky. The layout is tough enough - not long but narrow and with lots of trouble everywhere - that having impossible greens was unnecessary. But I loved it anyway, and would play again in a heartbeat. And no I don't usually rave about golf courses. I'm disappointed way more often than I'm pleased. A must-play.
very beautiful course
greens are fast with shaved slopes on all sides. fairways were perfect and the views are awesome
Very well maintained
Extremely well maintained course. The greens are in great condition, and have a challenging amount of slope to them. The bunkers are great. This course easily has the best conditions of any course I've played in the twin cities area.
Pace of play really detracts from wanting to replay the course
Greens were fast though not in great shape. Fairway were in very good shape. The pace always seems long. Too many people looking for balls would be my guess. Great location on the Mississippi River and not a single house on the course!!
better hit the ball straight
leave your driver in the bag..you won't be needing it..
it's all about direction and distance control.
greens are in great shape. Cool breeze off the mississippi
very scenic.....
Excellent condition and challenging yet playable
This was my first round at Mississippi Dunes in a number of years. The course was in phenomenal shape and I had an extremely enjoyable round.
