Loon Golf Resort - The Ridge Course
About
The Ridge (formerly know as Marsh Ridge Golf Course) spans acres of unspoiled marshland, tumbling across dramatic elevation changes that provide tees that are as high as the treetops. The course was carefully carved from mature forests and with trees framing most of the holes, accuracy is essential. Although the trees provide a peacefully secluded feel, the hilltops still allow for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The five par-3 holes are especially scenic. Strategically placed bunkers come into play throughout and there are water hazards on four holes. The par-3 14th is one of the most challenging holes thanks to a triple-tiered green that is narrow and deep. It is followed by the golf course's longest hole at 483 yards. Although it is seemingly narrow, the hole is more forgiving than it appears. There will definitely be challenges in store on this course but it is also quite playable.

Reviews
Hit the Fairway or take your Penalty
I would say for the intermediate golfer, this course is difficult. The fairway have plenty of room but, if you miss, you're in the trees. The course conditions were very good and pace of play was excellent. You have a lot of carries over marshes - a lot depends on the tees you hit from. At 79, I mostly used the gold tees which made the greens reachable on the second shot for par 4's and third shot on par 5's. The white tees, while not a whole lot longer, do mean that you have to be more accurate with your shots - that's if you can actually tell your shots where to land! Green true and clean - a little faster but not out of site.
Beautiful Course
This was a beautiful course to play and was in excellent condition. Very challenging par 3’s.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for the excellent rating!
Darren
Great course. Par 3’s are a bit challenging. The Club house and restaurant are great.
The sand traps were very hard due to a decent rainfall.
Thank you for your feedback! We’ll be sure to share this information with our grounds crew.
Accuracy, accuracy, accuracy over distance
From the time we arrived at the course we were treated very well. The person at the bag drop was very professional. He not only loaded our clubs but also brought the cart over to the car when he saw us after signing in.
The pro shop personnel could not have been better. They welcomed us and, once they new we hadn’t played the course before, offered us some excellent advice. We were debating what tees to use. When he told us the course was tight with some relatively long carrys off the tee our decision was made. That advice definitely helped us have a very enjoyable day on the course
They also gave us a discount because we were seniors even the the online booking was for much higher rate.
We would gladly have paid the full rate. They even let us out before the scheduled time so we could be past a certain number of holes. As it turned out, a group of 30 turned out to be a group of 50 when they notified the course 2 days beforehand!
We would recommend this course to any and all golfers. But beware….accuracy is very important on this course. As the pro shop person told us….your 7,8 and 9 irons will become your best friend!
Wow! Thank you for the fantastic review! This past fall (2024), we completed a major tree and brush removal project across all three of our courses. Be sure to visit us in 2025 to see the incredible improvements for yourself!
The Ridge
Only issue was they didn't have carts ready, so we had to wait 20 minutes for carts. Course was in great shape.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review! We truly value your feedback. Be sure to visit us in 2025 to experience the course improvements firsthand! We’re also working on enhancing the pace of play to ensure carts are ready for your scheduled tee time.
Part of a great weekend
Great course with a beautidul layout. Course needs some TLC and will be the best course of the three options at the loon if completed.
Definitely recommend the entire Loon Resort and this course to anyone considering a stay and play package in the gaylord area. Great value and hospitality every visit.
Same as I remember
The course was in pretty good condition considering the area had rain every day for the last two weeks. The pro at desk said the course was on its way back after some green neglect (mold). The exception of sand trap on the back that I mentioned to the pro (when i said something he knew exactly what hole I was talking about) had no sand and had to pitch high to the green did not work out well. This course is under the management of the Loon and if you played the Loon they do know how to create good course conditions.
bad weather, good course
Played on a very cool, windy day. Only people on whole course. From what I have read, this course has made a lot of improvements. Loved the elevation changes. Greens have recently been infected w/ "silver dollar" mold which is being treated but may remain remainder of season. Staff super friendly. Great clubhouse. Will definately play here again.........on a nicer day !!!
An old friendly course.
Being late October, there were lots of leaves down even though the ground crew were doing their best to blow them off. The tee boxes were in poor shape. Rough, uneven, uncut. The value was great as we only paid $20.
Fall Golf
Played at Marsh Ridge recently with friends. The greens and tee boxes were not attentively maintained with leaves (which is understandable for fall) and earthworm holes (maybe due to recent rain) on them. Pace of play is fine since we are the first group off the tee in the morning. When I got to the course, pro shop has not been opened yet (our tee time is 8:10 AM). Our group checked in at the front desk of the resort and was told to take our carts and go, so we did. Unfortunately there were no keys in the carts. It took us a little while before we can get on our way. The staff and manager are very nice and helpful (rushed to get us checked in and finding the keys to the carts). With so many nice golf courses to play in the area, I will play other courses next time I'm in the area.
Hidden Gem
First played this course 15 years ago, enjoyed it then and even more this time.
Thank you for your feedback! We’ve initiated a tree removal plan across all three of our courses, starting this fall. By the 2025 season, you’ll notice significantly wider fairways with large tree removal as well as brush. We hope you’ll give us another try and experience the improvements firsthand!
