Great day for a rounf
We would definitely recommend and hope to come back. Great course and layout.
Best course in area!
I've played Headwaters probably 10 times. Like every other time I've played it was a very enjoyable round of golf. The conditions were, as usual, pristine and pace of play very good. I especially like that the course layout suits the ability of average golfers, but is still a challenge. This is definitely my go to golf course near home!
Hidden Gem
Challenging and extremely fun course. The number one handicap par 4 number six is spectacular. Eighteen is one of the finest finishing holes in the state with a long drive needed to the 90 degree dogleg left par 5 where the green is guarded by a majestic oak on the left and a green side bunker on ther right. Greens are well manicured. Great attention to details here. In the middle of Lake Country with recreational opportunities abounding.
Fall is a great time of year to play here because of all the trees. A lot of the leaves had fallen, but it was still beautiful.
Beautiful day - beautiful course. The maintenance crew did a wonderful job of getting the leaves off of the fairways.
Excellent Course, for ALL types of Players !
Course provided a fun afternoon of golf. Tee to green, Headwaters GC had everything covered.... Nice tee boxes, plush fairways, nice cart paths, good 'directionals', and greens were in fair shape after a recent dose of Fall treatment (aeration?sp). Would like to play again when greens soften up and back to normal roll.
Awesome scenery and many holes were postcard material. Blue Tees would provide a true test to the lower handicapper, as an increase of 20-30 yds on some of the Par 3's alone would make 'Par' a good score. #6 took us by 'Awe', as you don't see 2/3 of the hole from Tee box. 400+ Par 4 with winding fairway and drop of elevation to a
rather smaller green of MANY undulations. Nowhere on the green provides for a
safe spot to put the cup. If you haven't played Headwaters, you gotta had it to the
Bucket List !
Beautiful course and fun to play
The course is fun and very playable. Large greens and set among large pines. Friendly staff and great experience!!! We will be back
Turtle golf
The course scheduled too many golfers on the course. The tee times were way too close together causing big waits on the front 9. The rangers did nothing to speed up play.
I do blame part of the slow pace on horrible golfers that don't play ready golf on a busy day. The course was in great shape. The cart worked well. Water and snacks were available on the course.
Great course......members don't want you there though.
I have played this course a number of times and I love it. Very playable but not easy, and is always in great shape. The downside is that it is semi-private so a lot of the golfers are "members" and seem to not appreciate non-locals playing there. I have been treated very rudely by other golfers almost every time I play here.
Wow! A well-kept beauty to play...
This is absolutely one of the nicest courses in the lakes country, outside of the high-end Brainerd courses. Front 9 is easy to walk. Back 9 has some large elevation changes that make having a cart nice. 5 sets of tees provides plenty of options for all ages and abilities. Treat yourself to some real northwoods fun!
Always outstanding
Headwaters GC is my favorite course in the Park Rapids/Walker area. If compares favorably to the best courses in the Brainerd Lakes area…fun layout, great conditions, really good value (especially if you have a golfnow.com discount or an International Golf Club card). All the holes are fun to play. No stupid holes like on many courses. It includes a few "grip it and rip it" holes for the big hitters, plus some nice elevation changes. The greens are fairly fast, and always seem to putt really true. Enjoy!
Cold October Day
The course was in great condition considering that late season round. It was 40 degrees with 15-20 MPH winds. Great value from Golf-now and we had a fun outing.
Greens had been punched
Course was in nice shape but the geens had been recently punched so was not in tip top shape.
Beautiful Golf Course!
First time playing the course. Went back 3 more times in our 2 week stay in Park Rapids. It's a beautifully-maintained course. Hats-off to the grounds keepers. Very playable, yet somewhat challenging. Lots of trees and beautiful settings. A good value if you use Golfnow.com.
Fantastic experience
The greens were superb. Interestingly undulated, but not overdone. The regulars here obviously take care to fix ball marks. I did not see a single one. The fairways lush and smooth. The rough was penal, but not overly so. The bunkers had great, fine-grained sand and were immaculate. The main thing I loved about this course were the stands of red pines separating the holes on the front nine. The ground around them was covered in pine needles. You didn't want to hit into them, but if you did you could find your ball and have a decent chance to recover well with a good punch. I've never seen Augusta National except on TV, but the pine stands here gave a similar vibe. I played shortly after sunrise with a light fog floating around, and had the course to myself to start. I can't speak highly enough of the experience. If you're in the area, don't wonder, don't think, just go. If you're staying in Brainerd, it's worth the 100 minute drive.
Nicely kept course
Headwaters is truly one of northern Minnesota"s treasures. Great facility, staff is friendly and always a challenging round
Great Course
Great golf course friendly staff. I always enjoyed playing here especially when I can just book online with golfnow.com and walk in pick up my cart key and go play.
Pleasant surprise
We played this course many years ago and thought it was ok. But today's Headwaters course is so much improved it's hard to believe it's the same track. Maybe it is new management or greens keeper, but whatever happened it is very noticeable and is worth the trip to Park Rapids. Staff was very competent and friendly. It's hard to believe this course just survived one of Minnesota ' s harshest winters. Hats off to the grounds crew.
Best Golf Course in Park Rapids / Walker area
I was excited to see Headwaters rejoin GolfNow as this is the best course in the greater Park Rapids / Walker area. The course is always well maintained, offers a variety of holes, and is challenging yet fun to play. There were a couple of fairways with winter burn out, but did not affect play much. A must play if you're in the area!
I forgot to add that the photos shown on this website are not at all what the course looks like. Headwaters has beautiful, lush, rolling fairways surrounded (about half the time) by mature pine forests. The pictures here look more like a barren farm course.
