Pace of play
The pace of play was my only problem with this course. For the first 4-5 holes we had to wait a good 15 minutes before we could tee off. It didn't really open up until we were halfway through the second nine.
Bad just bad
I bought a group golfer for this course. About 30 minutes from my house, thought this group golfer deal would give me a chance to try it. Showed up and had my group golfer number and was told they didn't have a list from the website so they would not accept my number. I asked if I show them my certificate number and just wrote it down and updated the sheet once they got it. No. Paid 35 bucks to play a course that was covered in water. Two holes were shortened and pace of play was at 3:25 for 7 holes. Never said anything about the water on the course when I paid. They had 4 twosomes out and never paired anyone up. There were 8 carts on hole tee box. Course was already super short and didn't have any blue tee boxes out. Only white and green. Terrible experience. Staff was short and unfriendly. By not accepting the group golfer, they get paid full price from every person that shows up expecting to use the round they already paid for. Won't go back to use this group golfer. Not worth the wait or the course.
Leaf-free, Challenging & Aesthetically Pleasing
Mid-November golf in Michigan leaves little to complain about. This was my first time playing Sycamore Hills (West/South) and am now wishing I discovered this place earlier in the year. The course is extremely well kept given the time of year, leafs were only an issue on 2 of 18 holes, greens are challenging, scenery is unique, hole design was fun and overall experience was great! Will be booking my first round of next years season here!
favorite course in macomb county
I cant understand for the life of me why this course has only 3.3 stars on golfnow.com This course has extremely nice fairways and greens and the course layout is my favorite of any course in the area. Ive played this course many times and only once was it over booked. It was pretty bad with 4 groups waiting at the first tee box. But after a couple holes the pace of plsy was fine.
West to South
We played the West course (9 holes) then the South course (9 holes). The west was the easier of the two. The South has a lot of water in strategic locations that made it difficult. Both nines were in good condition and the fallen leaves were only in the rough so it was important to keep your ball in the fairway if you wanted to find it. I lost 5 balls but found 6 so I felt ahead of the game so to speak. My score was 5 shots better on the west than on the south.
Great package
Hadn't play the course in 20 years. Enjoyed it then as a new course and had same feeling yesterday. Most greens were newly aerated and a little dried out due to dry season but still appreciated playing again on a very nice track.
Beautiful Course
Very nice. Plenty challenging. Some airiation going on but didnt affect play. Great value thru goffnow
Awesome Course and staff
Well run golf course. Fun and challenging. Staff is top notch! I play here all the time and each visit is enjoyable
I will never play this course again, the staff is more interested in loading up teetimes instead of putting in time for maintenance for the greens which was in terrible shape. Two golfers took 6 1/2 hours to play 18 holes behind an outing was flat out ridiculous. We talk to a staff member in the pro shop and they were very arrogant and did not have any considerations of my time and my partners time and did not show any remorse
Not what I had hoped for
I won't complain because we got a golf now "hot deal" but that's the only reason I am not complaining. However, I am not going back.
To Whom This May Concern,
Thank you for playing at Sycamore Hills. However, I am having trouble understanding your review. You rated your experience as good/fair yet only gave a 2 star rating. Was there some issue or problem we should be aware of?
Much improved conditions
Course was in much better shape than in the past. Pace of play was great except for the last couple holes. Haven't played here in over 10 years but I'll be back.
Soggy April
When I played it had not rained in the area for 5 days before hand and was sunny for those 5 days. The course was still pretty wet from being along the river. Could tell the grounds crew was working pretty hard to get the course ready but still was just not there yet.
High end price; mid range course
Course was decently maintained but the greens keepers were very very rude. Bathrooms were not open on the course, with no apology from the course staff just a "no I don't have the key". For $40 I would expect the starter to be on time, staff to be friendly and amenities to be available. Also due to the flood plain of the course portions of some holes were closed and 1 par-5 was shortened to a par-3 to compensate for the course.
Nice course but not for $40 at 7am
Love this course
It's much better than other courses in the area. Fairly challenging, friendly staff.
Overall excellent.
Good
Everywhere else was booked in the AM. TeeD off right when the sun up, no one in front or behind, course was in great shape, they were even going around blowing leaves off greens, fairways, tee boxes. Overall great experience.
Good Day
The course was in good shape, The greens were in great shape. A little over booked. So we jumped around until we played all 18 holes. One bad thing about the course is the cart path is to close to the fairway. If you miss the fairway by 2 feet you are hitting a cart path and into the woods you go.
Sycamore Hils GC
I play on the Dakota high school golf and our home course is sycamore. They treat us very well and even though michigan winters have torn up some greens on the south, west and north courses are still in excellent shape. Pace of play is usually not bad except for wknd mornings. But you will get that at any course!
Hello, Birdiebuddy05. Thank you for the review. While many courses had issues with their greens last year, including ours, our greens and the entire course have been in good shape since the beginning of the season. We have had many compliments on the condition of the course this year. We hope to see you out here again.
A beautiful Challenge
Some of the fairways and hole locations were difficult to pick up. Great overall impression from our foursome. Will play again on one of the courses if the price is right.
horrible course
They over book at this course we had to wait on every tee box. Took 7 hours to golf 18 holes because of the waiting. I would never go back there again. I would not recommended this course to sny one!!!
Sir, we do not overbook out tee-sheet. We checked the Starter records from that Friday and each group played 18 holes in 4-5 hours. Considering it was a Friday before a holiday, which are busier days, that is pretty normal. Also, many golfers came in after their round to compliment the course conditions.
If you like, you are welcome to stop in our Pro Shop and we can show you how we make up our tee-sheets so you can see how we keep everything organized.
The tale of two nines
The course was in surprisingly good shape considering all the rain we have had. The greens were slow, to be expected. I had a great pace going on the front nine. The back nine was a different story, it slowed to a crawl.
Sycamore Hills
I played on a Saturday afternoon and finished my 18 holes within 4 hours. The greens were rolling nice and true and the rest of the course was in good shape. It was a good experience from beginning to end.
Mike,
We are sorry you had an unpleasant experience at our facility. My name is Matthew and I am the person you spoke with. Group Golfer had yet to deliver the booklet which provides the roster list. Without the booklet or a hard copy of the voucher we were not able to accept it at that time. I apologized for this inconvenience.
We did have one shortened hole that day due to recent flooding, which left us with an 18-hole, par 70 golf course. After checking the starter sheets, groups were able to play 18 holes in 4.5 hours. While this is not an ideal pace, it was also cart path only that day because of the wetness and recent flooding. If you do encounter slow play at our course, we recommend contacting the Pro Shop or a Ranger so the problem can be addressed.
It is our hope you reconsider using your voucher and decide to come back another time so you are able to have a better experience at our course.
I encourage you to contact me at (586) 598-9500 ext 1.
