Sycamore
Good course. With three 9's it doesn't get too slow and you can play something different each time.
Sycamore Hills
I have played this course a few times over the years. It is typically in really nice shape. It is not overly long but still offers challenges with lakes and trees. I will continue playing it.
Fun Course
This is a really fun course to play in the area. It is not overly long, but it has plenty of trees and water on the West and South courses, which keeps it interesting. No blind shots but still has doglegs throughout the course. Greens are in MUCH BETTER shape than last year. Will be playing it much more this year.
Good conditions this year
After almost losing their greens last year, SH has made an amazing come back. Just played and the course is in good condition for this time of year. They know how to treat people here. A beautiful course with tree lined fairways and ponds, make this a shotmakers delight.
Go elsewhere for the money you will spend here
$50 for a Saturday/Sunday round? Yeah, I think not. This is the most overpriced course in Metro-Detroit, and any excuse the staff gives you is garbage. Its too bad because at $30-$35/round, this course would be excellent. Fairways and greens are often times in poor shape, and the staff is not friendly. Growing up, I used to play this course weekly while playing golf in HS. Now that I have grown up and realized the value it DOES NOT have, I am refusing to go back. If the Hickory Hollow next door wasn't such a dump, I think Sycamore lowering their prices would be easier. For now, stay away.
I love Sycamore Hills
What a great course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
one of the slowest courses in michigan
took 4 hours to play nine hole greens were tour up not a place I would play again much better courses for the price
ok course
Very slow play, no rangers keeping play flowing, few greens in rough shape
Go elsewhere, this place has become a joke
I've played this course many times in the past, but hadn't played here in about a year, I used think it was one of the better ones in the area, but not anymore. Today we had a tee time for 1:52, but b/c they were short of carts b/c of any outing, we didn't start until 2:20. There were several groups in front of us playing very slow, we had to wait at least 10 minutes at each hole. Plus, the course was in rough shape, looks like they haven't kept up on the maintenance. Tee boxes were all hacked up, and the cart paths are falling apart. This place was one of my favorite courses at one time, now I doubt if I'll return.
Decent course
5 1/2 hr round , overbooked teed off 35mins past tee time , greens would be great if it weren't for half of them needing tlc , fairways and tee boxes were in great condition , course provides a good challenge with Tight tree lined fairways and protected greens
Sycamore
I'm surprised sycamore won Michigan Course of the year. There are several greens in much needed repair or too much fertilization. I think there are plenty of other courses much worthy of course of the year, like Arcadia Bluffs or Harbor Shores.
Unfriendly Staff
Didn't feel very welcome. Spent money at the facility and was treated like a nuisance.
Course played well.
Outing going on
This place knows how to run an outing and still take care of the needs of the reg. golfers. With a large outing scheduled during the time I was on the course you wouldn't know it was going on at all
COURSE OVERBOOKS
THREE NINE HOLE LEAGUE COURSE THAT SELLS 18 HOLE ROUNDS. WHEN WE GOT TO THE 10th HOLE WE FOUND A WOMEN'S LEAGUE STACKED UP ON THE TEE BOX, THE OTHER NINE HOLE COURSE WAS SAME WAY. INQUIRED AT PRO SHOP AS TO WHY THEY WOULD STICK A LEAGUE IN FRONT OF AN 18 HOLE BOOKING. WAS INFORMED THAT ALL COURSES BOOK PEOPLE TO START ON YOUR BACK NINE HOLES IN FRONT OF YOU AND IT WAS ALSO OUR FAULT BECAUSE WE WERE NOT SLOW ENOUGH. ADVISE YOU AVOID THIS COURSE UNLESS YOU WANT A 5-6 HOUR ROUND.
Great course
The fairways and rough were in excellent condition, some of the greens on the south course had dead spots but still soft
Horrible conditions. Lied to my face
What an absolutely horrible course. Greens were almost unplayable. Called the night before to make sure course was in good condition because I heard from a friend that the greens were down to just dirt. The pro shop person said course was in excellent condition and greens were great. This person lied right to me. The greens on this course are almost unplayable. I understand you have to make money but to lie about the conditions of your greens just to make a buck is breaking the law in my eyes. I will never again play this course and will tell all my friends, family, relatives and strangers to never play here. EVER. You lost my business and many many others for life
Tight off the tee at times
played this course about 5 years ago and fell in love with it back then....was shocked at the slow play....teeing off on 27 hole course should not be backed up like this was....also worse greens I have putted on so far this year and I play 2-3 times a week......no chance of making any putts outside of a foot....so bumpy and burnt spots that didn't have green color what so ever....sad to see such a nice course go to waste....
Greens
We got a great deal on Golf Now. The heavy rains caused the greens to be very cushy. Hard to read a put. The cup cuts were bad. Small chunks of grass missing around perimeter. We were disappointed. This course is usually impeccable.
Lots of doglegs
Although its not a long course, plenty of doglegs so you need to be able to place the ball and lots of bunkers. I have heard that this course was very good , but right now the greens took a beating over the winter and are horrible wouldn't recommend playing this course till next year.
Check about green condition
A really nice course set in some nice country but, having started our round, we were somewhat surprised to find the green keepers tearing up all the South course greens. The greens were not, they were browns..... The aeration had left the whole green covered in what could be compared to pea shingle. Fortunately, this course is made up of 3 separate 9 hole courses and the starter was happy to put us out on the other two courses.
Some tricky holes with tight fairways made for a good challenge.
dpadovini,
Your comments are surprising. We have actually received many compliments on the course conditions this year from satisfied customers. That is evident in the reviews you see from this year on GolfNow/GolfAdvisor and from driving by our parking lot.
As far as our pricing, we are right in line with comparable courses in the area. Some are more expensive, some are less expensive. We feel we are appropriately priced.
Also, our afternoon twilight is $33 on weekends and we often post afternoon specials on GolfNow in the price range you suggested, sometimes even cheaper.
We hope you come back out and have an enjoyable experience like when you were frequently playing here.
