Totally good
Total course yardage was long for me , but not so tricky course. It must be easier for long driver.
Nice family course
Great place to take the family to play.
All levels of players will be a fair test.
Nice Course
Very well maintained and no complaints. I wouldn't necessarily pay full price, though. There are too many deals to be had, through golfnow.
Great deal
Great course, especially if you can get a good deal. 96 traffic is the only disappointment.
Another day of golf
It rained for the first 11 holes...pace of play was good except for the first tee...4 groups bottled up and starter was confused...had fun...always a great day to golf!!!
fairways and greens were in excellent shape
The only thing missing is there is no real golf range
Great track and great staff
Very nice especially considering the winter we just came out of. A few greens had damaged areas but overall very good condition. Hit 'em straight...or else.
Better options out there.
Kensington is mediocre, at best. The course runs along the I-96 freeway and is therefore quite nosy. Pack your helmet as the holes are very close together in most spots. The greens are slower than average and in fair condition. The grass on the fringes and tee boxes are longer than most fairways. Staff was ok, athough they didnt have a ranger the day I played so play was excruciatingly slow. It's a government run course, so you will see plenty of staff standing around, doing what I dont know. The bathrooms were so filthy that one of playing partners, a woman, had to use the mens room. They also charge you $7 for entering the metro park so be sure to tack that on to the cost of your tee time. To summarize, there are too many nicer options on the west side of Detroit for a similar price to ever play here.
Too many better options to play here.
Kensington is a below-average course in its marketplace. There are simply too many better options on the west side. The starter told us the course and greens were in great condition, but I found it to be nowhere near the better courses in the area. The grass on the greens is longer than typical hence they roll slow. The fringes are very long, longer than the fairways at some of the nicer courses in the area like Moose Ridge, Links of Novi, or Tanglewood. The staff was friendly but play was quite slow. There are no rangers on the course directing traffic, which is surprising since there had to be 5-6 guys working/standing around in the clubhouse. The bathroom on the course are filthy, the woman I played with had to use the mens because the woman's was beyond dirty. The course is noisy and several holes abut the I-96 freeway. You can hear the roar of the freeway constantly. Some of the holes are configured on top of each other so bring your helmet. Overall Kensington is not a viable option on the west side if you want to play a nice public course. For the same price, you can play a much nicer caliber course. Lastly, you have to pay for entrance into the metro park, which adds $7 to the cost of your tee time. They reimburse you $5 if you book through them but NOT if you book on Golf Now. Thumbs down all the way around.
The greens are in terrible shape
The course was not in good shape. The greens were hit hard by the bad winter and it appears they haven't put any money into fixing them. Also the fairways were patchy and I think they might want to sharpen the blade on the mowers. Overall it wasn't worth the money. To add you think you are getting a good price then you get hit with a $5.oo parking fee that normally can come off your bill but not if you book through Golf Now. Ended up costing the same price.
Greens need improvement
Like everything about he course but the greens! They were rough and in bad shape from winter damage
Great Golf Course
Please note all players recieving a Golf Now discount and driving a car into Kensington will be charged a $7 non refundable fee (regular golfers are refunded $5 back of the $7)! But very nice people, service was great and wonderful facility including brand new club house!
Greens not recovered from winter
Wide open course that plays long. Driver on almost all 4's and 5's. Greens are in the process of recovering from the brutal winter, but they are the worst I've played all year. Few bunkers and no water in play. Beautiful new Clubhouses, but food options are very limited.
weather has taken it's toll
The cold winter has taken it's toll on this course. The greens were in horrible shape. The fairways were patchy at best. Our start was held up by about 5 minutes while the staff tried to get carts for the group paired with us. There were no rangers on the course to speed things up; we were waiting on every shot and there was a hole and a half empty in front of the group we were waiting for. This has always been one of my favorite courses in the area. I won't be back for a while after this outing.
They are charging $7 park fee this year
Undoubtedly the winter has been hard on the course. Fairways were rough.
The park has started charging $7 to get into park to play golf. The gate people give you a $5 credit on golf, but since I already prepaid they would not give me $5 credit.
Someone should let you know before hand it is going to cost $7 more.
Mother's Day Delight
I enjoyed everything about my Mother' s Day round with one exception and it is of no fault to the golf course. There is a shooting range nearby and I was quite bothered by the sound of guns popping and banging continuously from holes 3 through 12. It's a shame the beautiful nature and scenery has to be spoiled for others by this noise pollution.
Great day off of work
Well maintained course, great value, somewhat friendly staff. Off day at work, a little chilly, but I was on the course.
To crowded
Had to wait on every hole, only played 11 holes before we called it a day.
This course has great charater.
Kensington Golf Course has all the features (sand, water, hills, mature tree lined fairways and quick greens) you like to see on a golf course. A very friendly and well maintain course to play, not long, but you will use most clubs in your bag. And one of the nice things about playing here is, the wild life that is abundant, from the first tee, to the eighteen green.
