St. Charles Pace of Play
Course is what it is and meets expectations for St. Chuck. Rain has been sparse so plays into the condition of the course. Few rough spots in FWs, greens little dry with a lot of bounce. Typical ball marks you see when folks are lazy. Got paired with two singles which made it somewhat bearable and enjoyed the company. As a twosome it would’ve been brutal slow. Groups on the course were hitting multiple tee shots, multiple shots in FW with no awareness in pace of play. I understand the rules of golf and when retee or drops are needed. Staff did have a starter and ranger which is nice to see. Getting pairings correct is critical so I do give the staff props at least with my time getting paired. You do see folks breaking off at other courses. Creating another tee time and causing it to be even slower. Took 4hr 52mins with a 90 degree rule. If you have 5 hours to kill any tee time after 11am would work. Earlier time the better imo.
Course in great shape
Bear Creek is in great shape
Bunker work is done, Bunkers were all raked
Greens were firm, and fast
T box’s and fairways were great
We were a Threesome and had a father and son join us on #1. Dad wasn’t playing yesterday, just his son.
We played from the gold T’s we are all 65 or older
I started playing when i was 23, and yesterday I had the privilege of watching a 10 year old play the best round of golf of anyone I have ever played with.
Wish him all the best
So much potential
I love this course and the facilities. It has a few issues. On this particular day the pace of play was excellent. Most days expect 4.5 hours to ride 18. Course has so much potential, I think it’s greatest drawback is the type of players that play here. The greens are always littered with pitch marks that players never repair. There are always one or two busted sprinkler heads pouring water over a fairway somewhere. There are exactly zero ball washers on the course, and the two bathroom facilities (not at the clubhouse) are absolutely disgusting. I love this place, but man they need to be more strict with the clientele.
Best shape in years but improvements still needed
Best condition this course has been in years! Tee boxes still need some work but overall very good. There are only two words that stop this from getting five stars... BALL WASHERS!!!! THERE ARE STILL NO BALL WASHERS ON THE COURSE! AND THE COURSE HOLDS WATER WHICH CAUSES THE BALL TO GET MUDDY!
Nice day
I teed off around 12:30, and the pace of play was a little slow (a couple of multi-group backups on the next tee), but got done in 4 hours, so not too bad. Greens looked very lush with few blemishes in them, with the tradeoff being they were pretty slow. The bunkers have now been filled in with good sand, and are very playable, which was nice
Same old song and dance
I seem to never learn on this course. Pace of play has been abysmal for years now, and 2023 is no different. 20 minutes per hole, like clockwork. Quit after 9 holes, due to it being 3 hours and 2 minutes into the round. As I told my playing partners “ I enjoyed it, but not enough to spend another three hours out here.” Probably the 5th or 6th time I’ve quit, after 9 holes, despite paying for 18, at this course, in the last 5 years. No marshals either.
Typical Behavior
Used to play here all the time! Stopped due to ridiculous practice of unregulated and unorganized tee off schedule coupled with 6-9 min tee times. Went back to give it another shot on & will never be back! The cashier check in gentleman has zero customer service and just is an old grumpy guy. Clearly hates dealing with people. Booked to play 18 (wasn’t allowed to book 9) and when I arrived I was told we couldn’t do 9. Of course I didn’t agree so the manager came over and changed the rate to 9. After paying we were told we have to tee off on back 9, no problem. However, it took 30 minutes to play hole 10 and wait on 11 tee box until I said screw it. 10 mins to play 10 and 20 mins wait on 11. We decided to not wait behind 4 groups of 6, 3, 5, & 1. When I went to ask for my money back I got huge attitude from the grumpy old gentleman and he only gave me a rain check and claimed the manager wasn’t there. No apology; no explanation; just attitude and displeasure like I was a nuisance. I walked off with my rain check and threw it in the trash. It is unfortunate that a golf course such as Bear Creek has lost all its ability for customer service and good experience that it should be able to provide to its patrons. Will never go to play there again. It is a shame.
