Great layout. Great conditions. Highly recommend
Great layout. Great conditions. Highly recommend.
Diligent marshaling keep pace of play moving so crowds have not been an issue the 3 times I've played there.
Overbooked and slow.
Course was crowded as expected for a Holiday weekend but not Marshalled very well. Course conditions were lacking due to recent weather issues that had not yet been addressed. Bunkers were poor and dead cut grass was all over the course. Course did not allow the use of their own rain check with our GolfNow booking. Don't know why as it was issued for a rain out during a GolfNow round.
1st time playing
I would have given the overall rating an excellent but a number of the bunkers, and I admit we found more than our share, were woeful to the extent that two literally had zero sand..just dirt.
It is a really solid layout and other than the bunkers the course is in very good condition.
Some areas not mowed causing long searches for lost balls
Very high rough for amateurs, takes to long to find errant shots
Challenging course
Course was in good condition, some spots had standing water, but with the amount of rain we had I was surprised it was not more.
NICE COURSE,BUT SLOW
The course was nice, but they need a marshall to send out groups. The foursome behind us were hitting into us while we were in the fairway ,in reach, waiting on the group in front of us.If you want to play slow and people on your tail all day, go to bearcreek.
Tough course, very challenging from the back tees.
The traps can use some work. Either fill them with sand that will not harden during rain or clean them out and replace with seed (grass traps or rough). Maybe it's just a drainage issue. But the course is beautiful and I will definitely play it again and again.
Great price for a great course
golfnow.com is great when scheduling last minute golf. The prices are lower than the actual course fees. Bear Creek was a challenging course and a great time. Staff was very friendly in making us feel welcome. One advice...always call to make sure they received your reservation after scheduling and bring your reservation confirmation the day you play.
Good value
Bear creek offers a nice course especially for the money. Tee boxes could use a good rolling, but other than that the course is in really good shape.
Good Course, Bad Staff
I enjoy playing Bear Creek every time I go. One thing I can't get over about them is that they have certain guys working in the pro shop who are jerks. For no reason, too. I don't get it. They are confrontational unlike anywhere I've played in St. Louis. (and I'm #1 on frequent golfer so I get out.)
Other than the staff, Bear Creek is a really great course to play. I like the layout. It's always pretty well maintained and not usually too crowded.
Great course layout and great price through GolfNow.
Really nice course layout and overall in good shape. Burmuda fairways. Has some standing water issues but usually doesn't come into play. Most sand traps have recently be renovated but still need some TLC to take this course to the Excellent level in my oppionon.
Bear Creek
Bear Creek has been on my list of favorite for 3 years now. Its always well maintained and remains a challenging course. For someone that only golfs in the $25 - $40 range this course offers excellent value for your experience.
Beautiful Course
Very busy course. Not for the new golfer as you are frequently pushed from the group behind you. Take lots of extra balls because you don't have time to search for lost ones
Good course, very slow play time on weekends
I'll reiterate what several other reviewers have already said. This course is extremely slow on the weekend and they over book it. We had a 11:15am tee time and there were 4 groups in front of us. We didn't tee off until almost 11:40am. The starter said that there was dew on the ground that caused the delay (i.e. he lied). The group in front of us was 4 hackers that played extremely slow. There were no marshals on the course to speed play up.
The course is very close to houses on several holes. I'm very shocked that the course designers/home builders got away with this. You can clearly see many golf ball holes in people's vinyl siding. Houses are in play for high handicappers.
Otherwise - the course has a really fun design and is challenging. I really enjoy the layout and it's kept in good shape. For me, I will continue playing it during the week or really late during the weekend.
Slow and Slower
Stay clear of this course on the weekends, they way overbook and then don't have a marshal on the course to keep thinks moving. Course has lots of expensive houses around the fairways so watch your drives.
Skewed perspective
This was my first time playing the course. Due to a heavy rain the night before (1+ inches), the greens having been recently aerated, and it being a day with high winds it's difficult to get a real feel for the course. I can see on a dry day the course would be a lot more fun than it was. The elements of soggy fairways and high winds pushing the ball made hitting any shot a challenge.
The fairways are tight and require attention to landing zones as the bunkers are placed in appropriate places. Some greens are heavily protected by deep, well maintained bunkers. Due to the heavy rain though they were flat and compressed. Not much you can do about that. The greens looked well maintained with very few ball marks that I could see. Granted all the aeration holes may have been masking it but I couldn't see any extra damage.
It's a very suburban course. There are houses lining many of the holes. Nothing gives you more confidence in the upcoming drive like a sign on many holes reminding you you are responsible for any damage to private property. That being said the holes are designed well and have great landscaping. I played during peak fall color and found myself looking around at the scenery as much as the course. I hope to get back and play again when the weather is more cooperative and the greens are not aerated.
Loved the course
This course is above aveage in maintenance. It is not to tight for average players yet is challenging.
This course is good
The course is good but they allow way too many tee times. We had 4 groups waiting on the first tee. They must let people go out every 4 minutes or something.
OK Course Slow pace of play
Not one of my favorite courses, Plays harder than it looks. Some of the fairways are lined with expensive houses that most likely have expensive windows. Pace of play at this course is always slow but the weekends are really bad. The book tee times close together and when a member shows up they always get them on the course so the spacing is really bad. Weekend round of 18 holes is close to 6 hours.
tough but fun
course was in great shape. we really enjoyed our day. looking forward to playing there again. hopefully i shoot a little better next time
