Pace of play is always a big problem at this course. I’d rather pay a little more and not have golfers stacked up on EVERY hole!
Greedy…
I came to enjoy a game off golf for my only day off this Memorial Day weekend, to be place with golfer of beginning status on my front nine. They were good kids and a great conversation! But at the same time I had to play at a pace which was too slowwr than me just pushing through… Then I had to wait at least 20 minutes to tee off on the back nine…. They are more worried about fill the golf coarse instead of quality of play. This is the third time they have paired me with others and don’t enjoy it.
Slow pace of play remains
I hadn’t played Bear Creek in 7-10 years due to slow pace of play issues. Struggled to find a course to play but they had a few so booked a round here. Front 9 had a decent pace and took 2:15 to play which is decent. Back 9 another story. Took over 3 hours and never once throughout the round was their a course marshal.. The condition of the course was excellent but I we waited to long on the back due to slow groups who didn’t play with any urgency, too too much time looking for balls and was also a fivesome.. It was cart path only but no course marshal allows this slow play.
Will be Returning
Great course, a nice challenge with some fairly easy holes if hit correctly lol the practice amenities are also a good touch on the overall experience.
Great course
Always a great course to play. Had some pace of play issues due to a tournament but I've never had those issues before. Great course especially if you get a hot deal.
Staff was rude and pace was slow.
Staff was very rude and the course looked absolutely terrible. The fairway, tee box, and green was very sub-par.
Poorest pace in StL….
With all the money Bear Creek makes on its monthly tournaments and green fees it’s insane they don’t employ a warden to keep up their pace of play. At one point there were 5 groups stuck between 3 holes!!!!! Ended up skipping 4 holes after the turn to get home on time. 3.5hr pace for 14 holes is unacceptable and borderline offensive. Especially when the greens have dirt patches in them and the breaks on the cart don’t work. Let’s think reprioritize how we allocate our funds Bear Creek. Course is great when everything is green and the course is wide open but today was not the day to be there.
Greens as fast as Gateway
Bear Creek is in fantastic shape with beautiful, challenging greens. Go play it!
Beautiful
Course is long..difficult but beautiful..the only problem we had was you couldn't drive on course because of rain day before..as we're in our 80s made it difficult..but will go back
So Much Potential...
Bear Creek is one of Gary Kern's best public layouts. He did a great job of routing the holes. There is terrific hole-to-hole variability over every type of topography. The greens are large, very undulating, and will be firm/fast when not punched. The course will make good golfers golf their ball. Bear Creek SHOULD be an upper-echelon public course in the St. Louis region.
So, why isn't BC a destination? Pace of play. It took 3 hours to play the front 9. Two of my foursome bailed after 12 holes. Another bailed after 15. I drove >45 minutes so I was determined to finish. But that came with a commitment to (probably) never visit again. 6 hours for 18 holes is simply indefensible.
Special note about the grounds crew. Their commitment to consistent conditions can be seen throughout the course. Special tip of the cap for all of the new sod around the cart paths (why can't people keep 4 wheels on concrete?!) and other high-wear areas. Even though the greens were punches, holes were filled and the greens were very playable. That doesn't happen by accident.
