Previous reviews were right
Having played here before we knew what to expect. Fun little suburban course, laid out fairly well throughout the subdivision.
Hadn't rained for at least 5 days and yet parts of the course were still sodden with standing water, not sure if it's from over watering and these were collection areas?
The one issue as per previous reviews was the attitude of the starter - not sure what is with this guy when clubhouse staff are so friendly. We were polite and conversational with him yet he always seems to have such an attitude problem. The group playing the 1st hole had already exited the green, the twosome that were meant to be playing in front of us were nowhere to be seen and we simply mentioned we'd be happy to tee off if he wanted us to and keep the pace of play moving. You'd think we'd asked for the world when he snapped back at us telling us he'd let us know when it was time for us to tee off and this is his job not ours. He then starts charging to the putting practice area in an effort to find the twosome with his trusty clipboard gripped firmly in his grasp. He returns a minute later and states "I've move you up to the 3:15 tee time" like dude was doing us a favor.
This course has a good mix of difficulty.
Be sure to put The Bear on your list of regular courses to play.
Pace of play and course shape is awful
Slowest round I have played in quite some time. Overbooked course, no marshalls out there making sure pace is acceptable. Greens just aerated too. Greens were very beat up.
Pretty good course, staff not as welcoming
The gentlemen organizing tee off times on hole 1 made us feel uncomfortable and like we were an inconvenience.
He over explained the rules to us.
Then got upset when we forgot a club.
The course was okay condition. But wood chips were in lots of the fairways and made the ball lies iffy.
Overall - 3 stars
Painfully Slow
Save your money and spare your time do not play Bear Creek. Pace of play is pathetically slow at 6+ hours for 18. The management refuses to address the issue as the pack as many players on the course as possible.
Punched fairways and shaggy greens
Have always enjoyed playing BC but it wasn’t in great shape when we played it. Four fairways on the front nine were being punched and that was not ideal. Tee boxes needed to be mowed as the grass was long. Plus most of the greens were pretty shaggy and quite slow.
The carts seemed to have been upgraded and nice seat cushions installed. GPS on the carts was a big plus and helpful on the tee shots with blind landing zones.
A big downer was how long our round took, which always seems to be an issue there. Went nearly five hours on a hot and humid weekday. The problem was a foursome that was incredibly slow, without a marshal in sight. It was painful late on the front side but the waits were excruciating on the back nine.
But it is a fun course that is not too expensive.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GOLFING CONDITIONS!
I had the unfortunate experience of playing here this weekend. I had a friend visiting from out of town and since we live off of the 15th hole it was convenient: WOW what a mistake. The ownership and management of Bear Creek should be ASHAMED of themselves for charging 68$ to play on this dog track! I know the staff and ownership are aware of how TERRIBLE every aspect of their course is for a golfer. The greens are SLOW & UNPLAYABLE if you appreciate the game and expect decent greens for 68$! The fairways have more weeds and MULCH than I’ve seen in abandon lots around town. Yes, you read that correct, MULCH. The fairways have NOT BEEN CUT, the mulch is everywhere, and the lies you get are unplayable. I could go on and on and on, but I think you all get the hint. The place IS NOT WORTH YOUR $$$$$$! Go ANYWHERE ELSE in the St, Charles area because there is something going on with this course and you will only be disappointed with the experience!
7 Hour Round of 18
Saturday morning round took over 7 hours. No ranger on course to manage pace of play. Majority of tee boxes had multiple groups. Course layout and conditions were decent, but complete waste of $70 and a Saturday.
Geese problem
Multiple greens were unusable due to goose droppings. The course use to have a dog run off the geese but it appears they gave up.
A must play
Course is in great shape I’ve played it twice in three weeks it’s a must play and the price is excellent.
Bear creek
The pace of play is very poor. The course is great, and can be challenging.
GPS Screens are nice addition!
Always enjoy playing there. The new GPS screens are great! I've been hit by a ball on two separate days on #9 fairway, maybe this will reduce a third incident.
See you soon!
The pace of play was horrible! It took over 3 hours to play 9 holes due to the group in front of us that was moving so slow and no one told them to pick up the pace. Very disappointed to say the least. It will be a long time before our group plays there again.
