Good course. Slow play
Course conditions were excellent. Always a fun course. But once again we were put behind an outing and play came to a grinding halt on #11 with five groups on the hole. Staff was polite in explaining their dilemma, but we could not afford a 6 hour round. We ended up replaying the front 9. This is the third time in a row we have experienced slow play here in as many visits. Would really have to think about about playing here again. It's a shame because it is a great coursekko
Great Course - Management needs some help...
T'd off @ 1:40 behind an outing which was running about 20 minutes behind. Due to this, the first 9 holes took 4 hours to complete as we were waiting for the group in front of us at every hole. As we were approaching the ninth green, management came out to us and apologized for the slow play and assured us pace of play would be increased on the next nine. They then proceeded to inform us that they needed to complete a long putting challenge for the outing. They would be bringing down contestants on the green before we had finished the hole. Considering the length of time that we waited for their outing, they could have waited 5 extra minutes for us to finish without surrounding the green during our game.
The next nine wasn't much better. There were no rangers to be found during our round and even though the outing was over with and it was clear sailing, the pace of play was even slower. The groups in front of us slowed the pace so much that we ended up having to skip two holes to finish 18 in 6 hours. It would have been a 7 hour round if we had played all 18...If a ranger had been out, they could have done something about it.
It is a well maintained and challenging course but the way the course is managed definitely takes away from the experience. If I was looking to play in the local area, I would choose "The Orchards" over Greystone.
Don't want to pile on...but
Greystone has always been one of my favorite destinations, but I can see why the condition of the greens are turning some people off. If I'm going to pay $55 for 18 holes during the week, the golf course (including the greens) should be perfect. The greens here simply aren't good enough right now. Bare spots, bumpy spots, sandy.....I agree with previous reviewers, we should be getting a break on the prices. This is a $40 to $45 dollar course right now. Because of the greens, places like Boulder Pointe, Pine Knob and Blackheath are much better values.
Nice course good for intellectual golf.
This course is challenging but fun at the same time. Great finishing holes (16,17,18) around the quarry lake. May be difficult for 15+ handicap golfers. It rewards good shot selection but entices you to try risk/rewards shots. The greens were mid paced with most of them in good shape. Golf carts are electric and in great condition. Minimal houses surround this beautiful course.
Greystone 7-4-15
Very nice course
Greens could use a little work
Golfers don't seem to know how to fix their ball
Marks
Everyone was very friendly
poor green conditions
Several Greens were bumpy - some had sand to cover bare spots - Greens were very poor.
Fairways were good and most tee boxes were in decent condition. Pace of play was slow - 5 hour round
Cartgirl (Bree) was pleasant and efficient - counter person was also friendly and professional.
rough was difficult due to past rain fall
I won't play again until greens improve...
Greystone Golf Club
A once great course now just average greens and tee boxes were in bad conditon
Sad to see this one go...
I understand that we live in Michigan and the premier golf courses are closed. But, that's no excuse for the superintendent to stop working. The greens and tee boxes are absolutely unacceptable. If you are thinking about making a tee time here, don't ! Play down the street at Glacier Club or Blackheath. Make no mistake, my preference is Greystone, but I will not return this year.
Greystone
Very challenging course overall, some minor problems with the greens, not as smooth as I have seen them in the past. Some damage from weather and not fully grown back in, made for difficult putting
Greens a problem
We played with the Group Golfer $35 that is the rate the course should be charging till the green come around. The weekend rate of $55 for those greens don't waste your money...bumpidy bumpidy bounce
Greystone
Fun round on a beautiful day. Pace was 5 hours, which was only drawback. Greens were in great shape and the rough was penal.
TERRIBLE GREENS
great course but the greens are in such bad shape i'd not be in any hurry to go back. It looked like they had the groundskeepers and superintendant out checking on the greens.....hopefully they can get them right.
Great Layout but
The course war in good shape except for the greens. I did not expect to pay the charged rate to put through sand on most greens. There are many courses in the area that have much better playing condition for a lot less money. Disappointed.
Greens need some work
Besides about 10-12 greens needing some serious TLC the course was in great shape. Final 3 holes are fun to play and offer great risk reward golf. Would like to play it again once they get the greens in better shape.
Great course trending down
I play Greystone about 8-10 times a year and my first round there this year was quite disappointing. Quite a few patchy spots all around the greens, so severe to the point the couldnt rotate their pin placements (front, middle, back) like they normally do.
This is beginning to be a growing trend at Greystone the past few years. You can certainly argue that this is mainly due to it just being early in the year. Normally, I'd buy that argument but having played there enough over the years and been to other public tracks already, there course maintenance was by far the worst its been. Between the green conditions right now and their bunkers, there is definite work to be done to get things back where they normally are at. Hope they can get things fixed up quickly since it's such a great, fun and challenging layout.
Some of the tee boxes could also use some leveling as well. Most notably #2, 14 and 17.
Great course with up-north feel
This course was excellent with a challenging layout and well maintained greens and fairways. Holes 6, 16 and 18 are must play holes. If you want to take your game to the next level, this is one of the best courses in Southeast Michigan.
Interesting layout
Course needs to maintain the tee boxes much better-the ladies/far forward tee boxes were a joke-crowned in the middle-very poor condition. Greens weren't great either-they still have dead sections from the winter kill we had this year. And so many players don't know how to fix ball marks-such a shame-perhaps the Pro shop needs to ask players if they know how to fix them. Need more sand available to fix divots.
Better places to play
The clubhouse refused to serve my drink neat! Said they were not that kind of place. I have golfed and had my drink served neat all over the world and have never been insulted this way, with the insinuation that serving drinks neat somehow tarnishes the club in which it is served. The place has no class. As to the golf, it was so so. Their clam of the best finish in Mi golf is way overstated.
Love Greystone
This course is always a good challenge. Course is always in good shape and service is great. The last 3 holes is the best finish in Michigan golf
