Great course and round
If you are looking for a fun and friendly course to play. This is it!
Quickly becoming my favorite course
This course has a great staff, layout and easy to book tee times. I have played this course about 8 times this year and keeps getting better. I am starting to invite friends to join me. They feel the same way.
Great Value and Great Course
Never disappointed with a round at Scottish Highlands. Greens allow you to shoot at the flag and greens are fast but not ridiculous. . Nice variety of holes gives you options off the tee boxes.
Great course
I play here a few times a month. The course is in great condition and the staff is very friendly.
Fun layout
The course is open for the most part with only the most errant tee shots getting you into real trouble. There is enough water around to get your attention. Lots of evelation changes and dog legs with very few straight away holes. It’s a good challenge for your golf game.
Starter Knowledge
The pro shop was very friendly and courteous, honored the Golf Now discount without question.
The starter seemed unaware of the Golf Now package.
When presented with the receipt from the pro shop, he just stated we did not pay and could not get carts.
Only after requesting 2 or 3 times to call the pro shop, starter finally did.
All other aspects of the course were excellent.
Always looking for something new
I would bring my sons here. Great course to start the year and build some confidence
Fun golf course
I've played this course so many times, all in all in Course isn't in bad shape for a public course. Almost no trees on the course so it is a wide open courses with just a few areas with trouble. The greens should be a little more receptive and the course isn't too challenging which is my only criticism. Lot of fun holes with some reachable par 5's and a couple reachable par 4's for the longer hitters
Easy but fun, worth playing
I've been playing here since it opened many years ago. The staff is very nice and friendly. The course is short and mostly wide open, but does have its challenges. It's not flat and has quite a few elevation changes that keep things interesting. Overall the layout is interesting and does not bore me for being as open as it is, it's fun to play and is a good confidence builder. The greens used to be great, but most years are substantially pock marked by the end of the season, they don't recover like they used to. It's easy to walk and is definitely worth playing for all levels, I like this place!
Disappointing First Time Visit
My golf buddy and I were looking forward to playing this course (reserved 18 holes w/cart). It was the first time either one of us played here. Upon our arrival, we were disappointed to find out that the front nine was closed for maintenance and we would be forced to play the back nine twice! This was news to us, as nothing was mentioned when booking the tee time a few days earlier by phone; nor, was anything mentioned in the confirming email?
We asked if there would be any reduction in the standard rate due to the lack of full up facilities. We were told there would be none. We pushed a little harder and asked the young man in the Pro Shop to ask the same of “Management”, and mention that we were first time visitors at the course. What came back was an offer of a “free” bag lunch after we completed play. We mentioned that that was NO offer/compensation at all, since that was their “Monday Special” to begin with, as offered on their website. The indifference was apparent throughout; however, this was a step further and quite insulting……………..
Well, we were there, so we shook it off and played some golf! My golf buddy and I consider ourselves to be intermediate players, who are not long hitters. Surprisingly, we both found the course to be somewhat “unchallenging”, even given our modest abilities. I attribute most of this to the course length, or lack thereof! We played off of the whites, but even the TIPS on the back nine measured out at less than 3,000 yards. Recommendation: For any golfer who is relatively new to the sport, and has a high handicap, I believe that they will (or might) enjoy the course. However, unless you fall within this criteria, I’d look elsewhere.
We did find a couple of things relatively good about the experience --- the grounds staff was both friendly and courteous as we made our way around; and, lunch turned out to be good!
So there it is! The good, the bad, and the ugly…………………..listed in reverse order.
Nice Course, fun layout
Played 2 days in a row, the snow had just melted and the course had only been open a week but was in great shape for this early in the season. Greens were excellent, fairways were soft but not plugging. Staff is super nice, price seemed fair for quality of the corse.
Good Conditions Are a Sure Thing
Since it opened 20 years ago, CSH has been known for it's excellent course conditions. The owners simply care too much about the course to have it any other way. Aside from the rare summer of drought or during aeration season, this place is always in great shape. Public golfers in the area know this and beat a path to the front door. It is remarkable how well it holds up to all of the play it gets. Now CSH will not crush you with length or severe challenges. This may also be a reason for it's popularity. There are many great uses of the natural hills, waterways and woodlots that are on the property. The 4th hole is a tough par 4 that goes downhill and to the right. You need a big drive down the left center to be able to clear the pond and reach in regulation. On the back nine, holes 10, 12 and 13 seem to be about the same thing, short par 4's that take a driver out of your hands. The 14th will get your attention though, as it requires a long, solid drive. CSH is a great course to build your confidence on. You can learn how to manage a course and make pars with a conservative strategy. It will not be hosting any major championships, but it will keep public golfers on the NH/MA border very happy. This is a course that you should seek out and play.
