Best public course around
Every hole is a challenge
Great condition
Although the pace of play was slow the course is in great condition. Recommend!
Rude Staff and Tough Layout make this a poor value.
I’ve played here twice and have had issues with the attitude and professionalism of the staff each time.
First visit was back in 2010 and we had 2.5 frost delay when the temp didn’t get below 50 the night prior.
Gave them another try after hearing great things about the course. The views here are tough to beat. I’d rank it in the top 5 views with alongside North Conway CC, Owls Nest, Mount Wash. The conditions from tee to green were fantastic, though the greens were a bit slow which was surprising given the weather we’ve had this summer.
Now the not so good. The layout is extremely challenging, especially for longer than average hitters. While there are some shorter holes, it’s impossible to find a flat lie on the course. I don’t mind hitting 2 iron off the tee to put myself in position but that’s not much fun when you have a blind or totally uneven lie for your second.
The staff is quite unprofessional. There seemed to be a problem with me being a single, despite booking what appeared to be a 4th spot with another 3 some. The starter gave me tremendous attitude after asking if I was paired with the 3 some also waiting on the first tee. He even told me I was going to to pay 10 dollars extra which didn’t make much sense. He then gave the 3 some the option to accept me into their group, despite having booked the time slot and being on the tee 15 min. early. They seemed just as confused as I did.
The pace of play was borderline horrific. Play started on 10 this day, and we played our opening 9 in 2 hours 20 minutes with no marshal in sight. When we got to the 1st tee, our 10th hole of the day, there were 4 groups on the hole. 1 on the green, one in the fairway, a group on the tee and then us. The starter came by as we were waiting for the group ahead to get to the green and
asked what our tee time was, acting as if we were way behind. He then instructed us to hit our tee shots despite having a group in range ahead of us because he had to sneak groups out behind us. It would seem that he also snuck groups out ahead of us which explains the 4 groups on 1 hole. We ended up playing just over 5 hours. Insane for a Wednesday.
Really disappointed in my experience and left with a bad taste in my mouth.
Quality in all respects
The course is in peak conditions. Couldn’t ask for more from the grounds crew in this dry summer.
