Not So Great
Course conditions not so great, but tropical storm did just come through. Price seems more than in past. Pace of play was clearly impeded and totally threw off game play momentum.
Wow
What a horrendous course. Can’t tell the difference between the tee box, fairway, rough or green. Needs a makeover ASAP.
Greenskeeper given up?
I know they are renovating this course next year so maybe that’s why it was in such bad shape. The rough wasn’t mowed, fairways were mowed but had lots of clumps of grass. Sand traps were in bad shape. Lots of dry, hard spots. While I played a round in 3:30 and I wasn’t looking for awesome golf, it was disappointing how unkept the course was. Hopefully the renovation will help get this course back.
Good County Course
The East course is closed so the West is getting more play. Some bare spots in the fairways but overall pretty well maintained. Tree lined fairways and the rough was high and thick so at least an extra club. The greens we're in good shape and pace was good. I'd go back especially when the East course is opened too.
Disorganized Mess
The course is undergoing renovation to the East course which is fine. However, the west course was not upkept for this kind of pricing. If you are only operating with one course, at least upkeep it. First of all there was no starter to direct us or even check in. Which would have been very helpful because apparently we start at the back 9 before the front 9 (learned from some regulars sharing our time). Now I know why you need to pay in advance, because no one was there to ring you up. I would give more than a star if someone was even present before we set off. The fairway was full of ruts and hazards that aren't even marked. The cherry on top was no toilet paper in the bathrooms. I expected better after hearing stories from several years ago. The only good thing about this was the pace was whatever we wanted it to be. There was no one ahead or behind us for most of the day. It may be better once they open the East course but for now they can't even handle the one they have. 10/10 I'm heading to Somerset. Their clubhouses are much more put together and cheaper.
Somerset County courses put this course to shame
Although I’m a resident of Middlesex County - Monmouth Junction I have not played this course in over 20 years. Having read some of the reviews I did have reservations about whether I should play here or not but I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I have to say I will not go back there again for a very long time. The West course was the only course available being that the East Course was totally under reconstruction and closed. I would assume for the balance of 2021.
I booked my tee time within the 24 hour window so I was committed to play. We had bad thunderstorms in the area the previous night so it was Cart path only. Portions of the course were flooded and the sand traps were washed out or solid as rocks. Not one single divot hole was fixed (I put that on the staff not asking guests to help and fix them before letting them tee off). Knowing that this will be the only course available for 2021 things will only turn worst.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I have played at about 20 golf courses across NY/NJ and this was far and away the worst. Fairways were flooded/unplayable and it didn’t even rain. Rough area/trees line filled with garbage and debris, not to mention the ticks I found on me. The icing on top was the group of four we finally decided to pass on the fifth hole, as they were playing at an 8 hour pace! Maybe if it was cheaper than the surrounding courses I would consider but this place is a mess and fairly expensive.
