Worst Round / Pace of play
Besides having worst conditions I’ve seen all summer. This course allowed a foursome to hold up the whole course. With booking an evening tee time during the week. The pace of play was over 5 hours. Even though it’s the cheapest course around. Not worth the $32 when the staff will do nothing to make things better. Employees love sending friends out on course for free and hold everyone up.
Great Course - everything else horrid
1- The golf course never alerted GN that the greens were aerated and was charged full freight. With that said they were in better shape then the course. I’ve played many courses in bad shape. I’ve never seen a course this bad.
2- The golf course never alerted GN it was cart path only as well and we weren’t alerted until the 7th hole. A manger (we think) came out to tell us. When he did we apologized and said we weren’t told. His reply “Well now you are.”
3- Tamarack West is a phenomenal course. What a shame they have let this turn into. Hopefully one day it will be back to where it was in the 1990’s when I played there last because it doesn’t deserve to be treated this bad and poorly run. Shame on you Middlesex County NJ.
Surprising
The greens are in surprising good shape, for Tamarack at least.
Better than the East Course!
We've played the East course several times and the West is much better! It would be very wet after a hard rain, but as long as its dry, the layout is better and the holes more interesting. Tough water holes and long par 3s!
Cause of season, there are bald spots and weeds
but are remaining short and being treated
Don’t loose it
Beautiful course but ZERO maintenance
Tamarack is a beautiful course but unfortunately the condition of the course (tee boxes, greens, fairway, rough) are all horrendous. One of the worst conditions I have seen a course.
Dehydrated course!!! Water
The course could be much better if they watered it and repaired the fairways and greens. Lots of holes with major matches of dirt. If in better condition would have been more enjoyable to play.
Worst course I've played in a while, sadly.
Ok, so I had driven to NJ to meet a friend at the Rutgers course and it closed due to recent rains, though I don't think it dumped that much rain lately. Nonetheless, we ended up booking Tamarack west for a mid afternoon round. The warm up area is matted, so that isn't great and the practice green didn't allow chipping, no big deal there.
Somehow 2 guys wiyh 1 bag jumped out 4 minutes prior to our tee Time, so already waiting on hole 1, they were very obviously beginners. I don't think courses should allow 2 players and 1 bag.
The conditions were reflective of a massive rainfall, though as I said, I don't think it rained THAT much, but hey, Rutgers closed, so maybe it did. There was standing water on almost every fairway and all over the rough, it really was unplayable. We agreed on winter rules, so we often moved out ball out of puddles onto very very wet grass. Additionally, the fairways had many many area with no grass whatsoever, it is quite shocking actually, and I've played some beat up courses. Crabgrass and weeds were often 70% of the fairway if not bare or underwater.
Tee boxes were much like the FWs, but some tee markers were placed where hitting a legal tee shot off of actual grass was literally impossible. Often we played outside the tee area to find a dryer spot with grass, not just sand and mud.
The greens were extremely slow, with some small damaged areas.
Bunkers had little sand, hard pan, and some had small ponds in them.
They did allow us to play an extra 9 at no cost on the east course, we played the front. It was just like the west course except slightly faster greens.
