Unputtable

This course was more or less unplayable despite its 4 star review in golfnow. Many greens had huge brown sections without grass, often times right in the middle of the greens. Will absolutely never be coming here again.

In need of some love

Hanover was one of the course in Burlington County I played a lot as I was getting into the game. The RTJ Sr. design was always kept in descent condition especially the greens. I hadn't played the course in about 4 or 5 years but I took a flyer on a cheap round knowing Hanover's previous track record. Unfortunately things have changed. My first issue is was with the fairway and rough length. I'm confused as to why the fairways are left pretty long and the rough cut so short. It's hard to determine where one starts and the other ends when on the tee and it basically turns the course in the flyer city. Seriously I had countless flyer lies during my round. The biggest issue at Hanover currently is the greens. I would say at least 50% (probably a bit more) clearly had some sort of disease. The 3rd and 13th were essentially unplayable. The course also has a ton of bare spots cropping up in the rough and around the greens and bunkers where players enter and exit (mind you we've had an absolutely perfect summer/early fall in the Delaware Valley area). I've said this in plenty of reviews this year but this course needs trees taken down and growth taken out. For example the back tee on 13 is completely unusable. The hole, a dogleg right, calls for a cut off the tee but the trees on the right (which are right next to the tee box) are so overgrown players have no way to take the ball down that side. Basically a player has to aim left of the left fairway bunker and hit a banana ball to get to position A, this should never be the case. Yes a draw should be tough to fit into the shape of the hole but even a straight ball is pretty much useless. The 14th hole suffers overgrowth in a different way. The right side has a large cluster of trees that provide significant shade, so much so that there's essentially no rough on the right side of the hole, just dirt. There is some good at Hanover. Though the course is mostly up and back holes like the par 4 10th and the par 4 6th are great holes that ask for strategy and shot making. The final 3 holes at Hanover are really solid as well. 16 is a par 4 with a sever up hill approach to a tilted green (the course's best hole IMO), 17 is a picturesque shortish par 3 back down the hill and 18 is a 600+ yard par 5 demanding a fairly long approach depending on how risky you want to be with your second. The bottom line is this place needs some significant love and attention. It's never been nor will it ever be a top tier course in the area and that's okay but in it's current form Hanover isn't playable if you're planning on taking a real score.

Nice course, great price

Hanover is really two separate courses... the front is relatively flat and straight while the back nine has some major elevation changes, despite also being relatively flat. The fairways were in great shape, and most of the greens were nice (there were several that need some renovation). In the past, when they cut the greens close and rolled them, putting downhill was a real challenge; yesterday they were consistent and manageable. The long grass is as thick and ornery as anything I've ever seen. The 18th hole is a beaut... nearly 600 yards from the blue tees and quite a golf challenge. This hole is spectacular when the trees start to change colors in the fall.

Aeration

There should be some advance notice for greens that are aerated. Putting is impacted due to this condition. Rest of course was in good condition.

I have been playing Hannover for over 10 years and the shape the course is in is Terrible. If Robert Trent Jones 3 was here today to see the condition is back nine was in he would be mortified. All of the back nine hole layout signs are ripped down, the tee boxes are in bad shape and uneven and the grass seems to be not cut. For how nice of a course this used to be for the price it is just depressing now

Beware of the early morning round!

We had the first tee time and the guys were already out mowing fairways and tee boxes.

Unfortunately, nothing was done to the greens. They were covered in dew. LOTS OF IT! When I asked if they were gonna be whipping the greens the ranger said "We don't do that here. Never had. Would be nice, but we don't". The greens were slow and wet for about 2 1/2 hours (15 holes for us).

The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. The rough was challenging - deep and thick. There were some bare spots around a few greens. Bunkers are decent and playable.

Hitting and STAYING IN the fairway is key!!! Unpaved cart paths and hard pan come into play if you miss some fairways by LITERALLY a few feet (grossly unfair - you must know to avoid these bare spots as if they are hazards).

At the end of the day, I feel the MOST IMPORTANT parts of a golf course are the greens. No matter how good you are, you can't score if you can't putt - and putting on a wet greens that leaves a roster tail means - YOU CAN'T PUTT! The course has challenging greens which are usually fast and true - one of the reasons we play the course. Getting above the hole is usually a mistake here - as it should be! Today, even from above the hole, you had to hammer putts to get there! BAD!!!!"

We will be playing our morning rounds elsewhere if there's even a chance that there was a morning dew.

Much improved

Played this past Friday. Busy day with a tournament being held. The ranger (talvin?) did a great job circling the tract and keeping everything in order. And he did it with a smile! Signs of improvement since my last visit earlier this year: teeboxes were very nice, some traps have new sand,, greens were rolling fast and true, Work still needed on hole 7, but judging from other noted improvements it's just a matter of time. Happy to see positive change!

Give it a try!

Great improvements over the last 5 years. Range grass hitting section is great, practice putting green is below average. Course is great!!!! Fairways are in good conditionsa nd the greens are beautiful, playable, yet challenging. New golfers will be able to play, but experienced golfers will be challenged even with their lack of sand and water. After your round head inside and grab a drink at the bar! Price is fair for their course quality, but man this place really needs some publicity. Memberships are extremely cheap for a course this good.

Worth a Visit!

I have played this course several times over the past 30 years and always found it to be just average. I have played it twice this month and will definitely played it several more times this year. It was in the best shape from tee to green that I have ever seen it. The greens are in perfect condition, true and fast. There is certainly the potential for three putt nightmares. Overall, I give it a solid thumbs up!

Front 9 doable, Back 9 difficult

Really enjoyed playing course although it was a rather warm day & took some of the fun out of it. Front 9 are fairly easy but the Back 9 seem longer & quite a bit more difficult. I love a challenge though so I am sure I will be back in the near future.

Not bad!

Fairways are way too close to each other, balls are flying all over the place. Slow play takes the fun out of the game. Other than that, you can't beat it with the price.

Just great a value!

A friend of mine with a negative opinion about Hanover from an oddly mysterious experience at the course a few years back has discouraged me to play at the course. In spite of his discouraging opinion I went to play with another friend of mine, a better golfer than bogie players like me with a favorable opinion about Hanover in October this year and we both had a marvelous round of golf, meeting another two some players. Nothing to complain about the course, from the beginning to the end of round! Pace of play, friendly staff, free fresh self service coffee and a cozy space to spend time with friends before and after the game. Just a great value for the price as either as a member or a golfnow.com player. I returned to play at the course once more in November.

Stay on the fairways

Front nine is very flat and fairly easy Back nine is hilly and more difficult. areas off the fairways are dirt and tree roots. Bunkers and cart paths need help. Tees are being improved and new ones are being built and should be ready in the spring. Best hole is the last, a long down hill par five about 600 yards, that is really fun to play. The course is perfect for the average player. Better players will find it to easy.
