Decent Course

The course is pretty decent. Few rough patches here and there. The rough was in tournament conditions. Couple that with early morning dew and rain from the night before, it was tough getting out of the rough. The layout is pretty good. For $65 the value is ok. There are definitely better deals out there.

A good course gone to seed

I had not played Great Gorge before, and all I really knew about it was that it used to be a Playboy club resort and that it was owned by Crystal Springs. So I was shocked to see the ghost town hotel with grass growing in the parking lot and trees sprouting in the tennis courts. The course wasn't much better. Most of the greens were nicely kept, but the fairways were shaggy. The fescue rough was often 6 inches deep. The entire course is lined by a thick, ugly overgrown tangle of weeds. On some fairways these weeds are growing through boarded-up, abandoned houses. Water hazards are more ooze than liquid. The bunkers are shallow and hard-packed. The cart paths, once asphalt, have disintegrated to rubble and ruts in so many places that it was hazardous to obey the cart path/90 degree rules.
A shame really. The course looks like it may have once been fun, but it has suffered serious neglect, and current conditioning seemed haphazard at best. I couldn't decide if Crystal Springs had decided to let the place go, or if it is really early in an attempt to rescue it.

If you diecide to go, do not think about walking; elevation changes are over a hundred feet on at least 4 holes, and the distances from greens to tees are frequently formidable.

A little old and rough around the fairways

Sad that it has seen better days. The first 13 holes moved well. I was not sure why the last 5 were so painful?0

I like that there are 3 different courses here.

Great price on golf now. . The course is in pretty good shape. .. Some elevated tee boxes some water and some long shots makes this course worth trying. .. Just don't think your at the wrong place when you get there.. It looks abandoned out front.

8/3 round at great gorge

4 of us had a great time at great gorge on 8/3. Pace of play was fine. course was in pretty good shape for a round in early august especially with the challenges of the crazy weather we have had this year int he Northeast. It is still very depressing to drive into the facility. something realyy needs to be done witht he eyesore that you have to park near. This is holding this back from becoming a favorite golfing destination for me.

Quite Fine

As I pulled into the old parking lot, I was a bit disappointed thinking of how much better this place could be if it goes through some renovations. However, as I went up the hill to sign in, I realized that the golf course itself is beautiful and maintained well and the staffing around the course was managed just fine. The starter and the ranger as well as all other employees were all doing their jobs and seem to be quite organized in what they do. Further, I appreciate the promotion rate and would certainly go back there as long as they keep the promotion going. With the promotion, paying around $50(cart included) is very reasonable compare to the good quality of course and the friendly staff. To sum it up, I indeed enjoyed a nice round of golf on a beautiful Friday afternoon there.

Quarry/rail

Course in pretty good shape. Undulating greens make putting tough when in those positions on green. Only complaint is the cart paths, really beat up, towel came unhooked twice, found 2 other golfer's items, beer kept spilling out from can while riding on their paths.

Well kept course

Most greens were hard and many times your shot would roll to the back of the green or off the green. This made your approach shots more challenging.

Mr. RRD

Very good course and in very good condition.
My only beef is the stones in the bunkers.
Eliminate those and you have a really nice course!

overall Good condition

Overall, the course was in good shape. Fairways, Greens were great. Some areas had the rough too high around the greens. But for the price, it's a good value.

Great conditions

Didn't know what to expect, place looks likes ghost town as you drive in. Played the lakes/quarry courses, conditions were fantastic. Pace of play was a little slow but not terrible. Food was good but a little pricey. Would definitely be back.

Great course but a tad bit unfair to women. Greens were in great shape as well as the fairways. Staff is always pleasant and helpful.

nice layout

you can tell they need more money the bunkers have rocks that are big not raked out. the grass is not trimmed around bunkers. the rest of the course greens and fairways are in good shape and that is the most important thing. the cart paths are in need of repair badly!!!! GO SLOW ON THEM. I have played there other courses and found cart paths good. but to be fair they had a hard winter.

Course was I great shape!

Golf management is the key here. Keep your tee shots in the fairway. The rough is very unforgiving.
