Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

January Bonus Day
Had the opportunity to play in January which is a bonus. It was walking only and the pace was great, 3 1/2 round which you would expect in January. During the summer the pace is usually about 4 1/2 hours.
The new owners do what they say, each time you visit the course it will be a bit better. Smart approach not to extend themselves financially. Big improvement in the fairways in 2020 and the Women/ Seniors tee boxes were sodded. To my understanding the regular tees will be sodded in 2021 which is needed.
Work left to do
Having played Harkers before it was ruined years ago, I know its possibilities for excellent conditions. However, much work is left to do. It is clear that the greens and fairways have been improved but the fairways are still rather thin making it very difficult to keep the ball on the fairways of holes 13 and 15 which are both built perpendicular to the steepest parts of the course. That said, I have full confidence that the new ownership will accomplish what it set out to do. Something that I think needs immediate attention are the cart paths. The food and atmosphere at the bar/restaurant are very good and the staff is very pleasant.
Great old time layout
Have only played it once the layout is great, what I know of Steve, Joe and Jason they will turn this place around and bring it back to what Irvine was. How’s a great Course pro knows how to cater to the golfing public, Steve Taggart will get this place into into a great place again.
Improvements in process
Hat's off to the new owners and the course management team. There's still work to be done but it's good to see the fairways and tee boxes being addressed. The greens were surprisingly fast, which is a complement. On its current pace this track will return to the club it once was. My group had a great day!
Much improved
The greens are getting the necessary care and several fairways were being repaired and look to be coming along nicely. Harkers is heads above where it was in past years. These owners are showing that with the repairs being made, harkers will be a go to course.
Keep up the good work!
Hello, and thank you for the rating us! We appreciate the review but rated us 3-stars which means there is room to improve on your recent experience at Harkers Hollow Golf Club. Let us know, in the comments, how and where you would like to see changes from the course. Thanks for the feedback!
Course in good shape for late November. Had a frost delay but did a good job of getting everyone out. Very friendly staff in office and especially the starter, Ed. Always a pleasure to play here.
good for the price and some views
It is a good, challenging course and very fairly priced during the week. There are a few streams that can be a problem, especially on 9 hah but it is a fun yet intensely sloped course that offers a challenge with shot placement
One hour frost delay but turned out to be like 45 minutes. Pace was excellent and luckily a few foursomes only played the front 9.
Fairways were cut short and in good condition. Anywhere else, you have a tough time finding your ball since the grass was so high but being so late in the year, I wasn't expecting it to be perfect. Definitely a nice open course to get the most out of your driver.
Greens were in excellent condition. A little slow from all the water, but I was very pleased with overall condition.
Will be back when the temps go back up.
Much improved
The owners have worked incredibly hard to improve this course and they are doing an awesome job. Greens are well kept and fairways are clean.
Better than the last time is their pledge
Got a quick 18 in before some forecasted rainstorms so pace of play was excellent. They are truly working on improving most holes. I was surprised at how great some of the greens and fairways looked. A few still need work, 17 fairway has a couple spots that are packed dirt. All in all the owners are taking care of the property and going into their 3rd spring it'll be interesting to see what 2021 looks like.
Challenging Hole Layouts
Good challenge trying to keep the ball down the middle of tree lined narrow fairways. Lots of changes in elevation and tilted stances. Fast greens not always true or easy to read. Course can get a bit crowded. Overall an enjoyable experience
This is my second time playing this course this year. First time was in the summer and the second was in fall. The greens are fast and in great shape. The leaves were all blown off. It’s a well maintained golf course and hopefully it stays that way. Definitely will play here again if the price doesn’t go up.
