Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

First and Last

Mud tee boxes, mud fairways, and overall horrible condition. Probably the worst golf course I have ever played in the area for what they charge. $54 on a Saturday and the course was in horrible shape. The tee boxes had absolutely no grass and was straight dirt and mud. The fairways had thin grass and again mud and hard dirt. The only soft part of the course were the bunkers.

Good value

Tee boxes and fairways in rough shape but playable. Greens in great condition and the sand traps appeared to be recently filled with fresh sand. Worth playing with a hot deal but wouldn’t pay more than that.

Harkers

Staff was great and timing of getting folks off and keeping it moving was great. Course conditions were average. Tee boxes need more work (in time it will get better) but the bare spots around the course are a concern.

Better every time

Owners have done a wonderful job since buying this course. 5 years ago it was a cow pasture. It is now in beautiful shape, and getting better all the time. Great course. Also, their F&B amenities are top notch. Love it!

Course is very tight. Tee boxes are rough. Greens very slow and bumpy.

Scenic Course

Well maintained, with some challenging holes. Only negatives were slow pace of play, and lack of a driving range (if you’re like me and need several holes to remember how to swing a golf club).

Muddy

Probably not the best time to go the day after a major storm. Bad drainage on this course. It was very wet and muddy. Extremely hilly so don’t go when you can’t get a cart. Good exercise day. Glad I brought my inhaler. LOL

first time there, challenging layout, considering the recent hot weather fairways in decent shape, greens in good shape except one, some tee boxes need work, staff was great. Not sure who the owners are but well worth the price and would recommend it to other first timers.

thank you.

On the way back

Greens and bunkers as good as any I've played this summer. Tees and fairways still need help. Considering this course was closed for years, it seems to be on the way back to being very good. The price for weekend play was excellent.

Nice but a little rough

Walked with another senior and two in a cart from front tees. Pace was generally good. Course is best played from white tees if your drives go longer than 240. From front tees, I hit many sand wedge approaches. Greens were fair and interesting. Due to recent dry weather there were many hard pan lies. Overall a nice exercise round and some fun putts.
