Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

Great Father's Day Round
Thought the course was in good shape with all the. rain we have been having. Nice wide open fairways . Need to get ride of some of the clover. I would definitely go back.
a great layout
new owners are doing a good job in spite of all rain
Poor grouping
Greens were not good. Sloppy drainage that could have been managed better. Multiple twosomes put behind us and then telling us to hurry up.
Wet and slow
Overall for what I spent it wasn't a bad round, the pace of play was very frustrating and the course was very wet and muddy.
Majority of the staff extremely unaccommodating
Had a tee time today at 840. Was ten minutes late due to hitting traffic from a car accident. Once arrived, Jason told me to head on out on hole 2 with my buddies. Asked him once I finished the 18th hole I could wrap back to play hole one, he said we will see with negative attitude. It's truly sad to see the "golf pro" treat a member of the course like that. The course is still in terrible condition with the fairways patchy and greens just as bad. The sand traps are all hard as a rock (with some not even having sand in them) except a few. The pace of play is terrible due to the fact they book tee times in very short intervals of each other. They also have people walking at all times of the day slowing up every one. I can't imagine this course being nothing more than for beginners. The flooding on the front 9 is atrocious as well...especially by hole 8/9
Theres only a select few staff at the course that are actually nice. The higher up the employees are ranked, the worse they get. Never treat your members with disrespect. I truly wish I didn't pay a dime of my money.
Private quality layout, good value, friendly staff
What an amazing round today. It rained non stop for the past two days, so I knew I had to go to HH because the drainage at this place is unreal. Many other courses in the area would be unplayable today, but I didn’t have to move a single ball because of puddles/moisture at HH. The staff is great. Thank you to John at the front desk for the friendly service.
Side note about the layout: the course is long and fair. None of the holes seem out of place or as if they shouldn’t be there. Used to be a private course before 07-08, can only imagine what it would look like with that kind of investment. As I mentioned above though, I had absolutely zero complaints on the condition of the course, especially compared to other similar price courses in the area.
Nice Greens
First time playing here this year after its sale. They are trying to bring this course back to what or used to be. We had a short first delay but we were they only early tee time so that wasn't a problem. The greens were in very good shape for this time of the year and the amount of rain we've had. The fairways still need a lot of help but they will get there eventually. They were cut tight but still need time to grow in, hopefully next year.
A for Effort
Great improvement over the last few years. It is certainly trending in the right direction. Greens were good and there was sand in the bunkers. Fairways and tees still need some work (maybe because of the weather). So you play lift, clean and place. Played in 3 hrs and at $29 to ride, definitely worth the trip. The layout is terrific. An old school Robert White course with tees near the green. Really looking forward to all he upgrades.
Getting better
Course condition has improved under new ownership.
Mr7wood
The course is a par 70 but the whites are over 6200 yards. Many of the holes are long and it is very difficult to get on in regulation. Bring your big stick and hope the wind is in your back. Many holes are uphill.
Harkers Hollow
Course is much improved since spring. New owners are working hard to bring it back to what it can be. Greens recently aerated and fairways reserved. Course was busy, but not over crowded. We played in 3hrs 15 minutes.
In Transition
I have played this course in the past. Now under new ownership, they are trying to revive it. New sand, fairways aerated, etc. I hope they succeed. It's a good layout but playing extremely long and difficult with the fairways aerated and high rough. Balls get lost a few feet off the fairway, The greens are ok for the most part. It's a good price but playing very difficult,
Hacker's Hollow
Decided to give this a try after reading the reviews. What a mistake that was! So bad that 2 of our foursome quit after 11 holes. We were left wondering, after hearing about all the improvements made; how bad could it have been? Crabgrass fairways, hard pan mixed in, burnt out greens, just horrible. No clue what other reviewers are thinking writing good reports on this place. This is a place for beginners to learn the game, nothing more.
Can't see ever coming back here.
We are sorry about your experience. As they comments indicate we have we made great strides this season with much work to be done. We are currently aerating and seeding fairways as part of our renovation. Please come back like so many and see the progress. Please feel free to reach out to us so harkershollow1929@yahoo.com
Great Layout - Just Needs Some TLC!
Really enjoyed the layout of this course, although the front 9 might seem redundant, the back 9 was awesome with 2 side-slope holes 14 and 15 good challenges. The course conditions were pretty rough, with the fairway mostly crab grass and the rough high so even if in the first cut, tough to find your ball. Greens had some winter kill or other issues. I just think with a little TLC and investment in landscaping, this could be a 4-star course. I would probably opt for Fairway Valley in Washington as it is similar, but better price and conditions.

After seeing the course improve over the years, I have seen only positive things happening. Please feel free to delete the above review as it's not needed.
The course conditions have pretty much made a 180. The greens are quick, the bunkers have sand, the fairways are smooth. It's a challenging course to play, but it's fun nonetheless.
