Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

Nice Greens
First time playing here this year after its sale. They are trying to bring this course back to what or used to be. We had a short first delay but we were they only early tee time so that wasn't a problem. The greens were in very good shape for this time of the year and the amount of rain we've had. The fairways still need a lot of help but they will get there eventually. They were cut tight but still need time to grow in, hopefully next year.
A for Effort
Great improvement over the last few years. It is certainly trending in the right direction. Greens were good and there was sand in the bunkers. Fairways and tees still need some work (maybe because of the weather). So you play lift, clean and place. Played in 3 hrs and at $29 to ride, definitely worth the trip. The layout is terrific. An old school Robert White course with tees near the green. Really looking forward to all he upgrades.
Getting better
Course condition has improved under new ownership.
Mr7wood
The course is a par 70 but the whites are over 6200 yards. Many of the holes are long and it is very difficult to get on in regulation. Bring your big stick and hope the wind is in your back. Many holes are uphill.
Harkers Hollow
Course is much improved since spring. New owners are working hard to bring it back to what it can be. Greens recently aerated and fairways reserved. Course was busy, but not over crowded. We played in 3hrs 15 minutes.
In Transition
I have played this course in the past. Now under new ownership, they are trying to revive it. New sand, fairways aerated, etc. I hope they succeed. It's a good layout but playing extremely long and difficult with the fairways aerated and high rough. Balls get lost a few feet off the fairway, The greens are ok for the most part. It's a good price but playing very difficult,
Hacker's Hollow
Decided to give this a try after reading the reviews. What a mistake that was! So bad that 2 of our foursome quit after 11 holes. We were left wondering, after hearing about all the improvements made; how bad could it have been? Crabgrass fairways, hard pan mixed in, burnt out greens, just horrible. No clue what other reviewers are thinking writing good reports on this place. This is a place for beginners to learn the game, nothing more.
Can't see ever coming back here.
Great Layout - Just Needs Some TLC!
Really enjoyed the layout of this course, although the front 9 might seem redundant, the back 9 was awesome with 2 side-slope holes 14 and 15 good challenges. The course conditions were pretty rough, with the fairway mostly crab grass and the rough high so even if in the first cut, tough to find your ball. Greens had some winter kill or other issues. I just think with a little TLC and investment in landscaping, this could be a 4-star course. I would probably opt for Fairway Valley in Washington as it is similar, but better price and conditions.
nice layout, nice improvements
Nice course layout, worth the money on GolfNow
Course condition has improved greatly and is getting the attention from new ownership it deserves.
Enjoyed the Course
My wife is just beginning to golf and I took her here hoping to enjoy an easy paced round. We had a great time and will definitely return to this course frequently. Woman at pro shop was extremely friendly and accommodating. The only reason for the average rating on the course conditions was because they are currently working on improving the course. The holes that are complete were great. Thank you Harker's Hollow!
Harkers Comeback
I've played this course a few times this year and each time something else has been done to bring the course back to a more playable state. The new owners seem to be trying to bring the course back and while it is obvious this won't happen overnight, they are taking steps forward. The hard pan and stone bunkers that were overgrown with weeds have been filled with sand.
The greens still have minor bare spots and the fairways are a work in progress, but they are suitable to get in a quick round (or some practice) at a not to expensive an price.
Great Bang for Your Buck
Four of us played on a Saturday morning for only $39 w/cart. I wasn't sure what to expect since the course had been neglected by the previous owners.
I have to say, I was extremely surprised how well the course was being kept. Overall, its a beautiful course with great views. Most of the greens were in good shape. The fairways were a bit hard and some of the bunkers needed sand. If the owners continue to invest their time and money, I can see this course being brought back to its original grandeur.
This course is a diamond in the rough and will soon be a course that will be recognized as a must play.
I plan to play this course again.
A Work In Progress
With new owners, they are working hard to bring the course standards up. The fairways are hard due to the patchwork irrigation system they inherited. On the plus side, that means your ball rolls a LONG way.
I last played here a few years ago, and you could tell the course conditions were heading downhill. They are not great yet, but I was most impressed with how committed everyone was to improving the golf experience. All of the staff were friendly, and enjoyed telling the story about the direction they were headed.
Being a Monday, our round was under 4 hours.
Actually, the course was in no worse shape than some of the munis I have played on. As long as you are prepared for a less than perfect course, you will not be disappointed. It is indeed a work in progress.
Getting better every time
I have played this course the last three years and it's getting better every time I play there. Some the greens need a little more work and there were one or two bunkers that needed sand but overall, the course was in good condition. The new ownership is doing a good job getting the course back in good condition.
