Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

Challenging
The 1st nine are pretty straight-forward and the back are much more interesting. I really enjoyed the fact that it's hard to see the flag's from the t-box.
Nice layout and great views
The fairways were brown and weedy and the greens had bare sand spots. Although the course was still worth playing. I think the new owners are trying. Hopefully next season will be better. They were working on spots on Sunday.
Great value for the money
We arrived at the course and the starter explained that last year the course was closed because the greens were destroyed due to a fungus, so we were not expecting much. The course has a lot of elevation changes, which makes it challenging, but the layout is very well done. The greens were in great condition. Be aware that some are very tough. Some spots on the fairways were not in very good condition but overall, they were in pretty good shape. There are a couple long par 3s, tee shots over or around water, and elevated greens. I would play this course again but would like to play earlier in the season.
Great track - but still on the rebound
Harker's Hollow is a great golf layout featuring the rolling, hilly terrain of northwest NJ coupled with a course design from years ago when you could walk from green to the next tee.
The course is still recovering from its demise as a private country club and the efforts made over the past 2 years by the new owners (also owning Apple Mountain GC) when the course was opened to the public.
The greens are in great shape and well maintained. The fairways are still in recovery mode, after having suffered from several years of neglect prior to change of ownership. There are traps on most holes, but only some have been well maintained (adequate, playable sand).
Plenty of elevation changes, and shot placement, while forgiving in some cases on the longer holes, still demands staying out of the trees for good lines to the greens. This is a course that I am convinced will become very good again if the level of play keeps bringing in the cash. The green fees are good and competitive.
Hot deal makes it worthwhile!
Course is much improved since I played last fall. Fairways still patchy, but most greens are in decent shape. Played in 3 hours - course was empty.
A good value!
Harker's Hollow has been much improved since becoming the sister course to Apple Mountain. I expect it to continue to improve.
cow patch
the frist and the seventeen greens were shut down, and all the other greens were dresed.i feel the started should have let us know before starting.i'am very surprise that golf now would have this course on there bookings.not happy with the results of this booking.
Nice layout
This course has a nice layout and great views. However, the course is in poor condition. The fairways are in bad shape, the greens were better now than earlier this year. Hope the management is willing to get this course back to it's former condition. Some new/newer golf carts would also be appreciated.
I think the coarse was a challenge
very good coarse for learning like myself lot of obstical to prepare for before your shot river, trees, bunkers. Fairways were cut nice the greens were fair also a couple could use alittle of attention.the coarse was pretty easy to follow and of coarse the price was good also by going thru Golf Now which I think is very good
Needs Work
Got a great deal on fees. Arrived to be told that aeration was going on and 4 greens were inaccessible. Pro shop manager actually said he didn't know about it?? I guess it was a surprise!
Overall, a pretty easy course. Played from the tips, which I rarely do, and had no problems. Fairways were in very rough shape (had been aerated also), greens were fast but had some bare spots. Not a lot of green grass...but a lot of brown grass.
May give them a shot earlier in the season next year, to see if conditions have improved.
One positive, pace of play. Got through 18 in a little under 3 hours.
Great value for the money
$35 for 18 holes plus cart is an incredible deal; it used to be a private club and I can see that it was a great course back in the day.
First nine is simple with just going up and down the hill with par 4 and 5 courses; only hazard would be the water in the middle. So if you hit it straight then it's pretty easy; but watch out for the surprise down slope on the green on par 5.
Second nine is more interesting with turns and hills; it is challenging because of the curves and seemingly simple bunkers. If you are not on the fairway then it's also difficult with long grass.
I would definitely play again maybe 36 holes/2 rounds and lunch in-between. The staff is friendly, the course is pretty wide open and slower pace is definitely a plus.
Not well maintained but good for the money if you are just looking to practice your game.
Got to play as a single which allowed me to practice my game and hit multiple shots on each hole. Also was able to play all 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours.
much improved since my last visit, still needs work though
I've seen a lot of rough reviews on this course, and they're certainly not unjustified. I played at the course about a month ago and the fairways were completely yellow with missing patches throughout, and the greens were pretty lousy too. This time all the fairways were at least green, there were still quite a few patches, and the greens still aren't in what I'd consider to be good condition, but they weren't as bad as last time. There are some signs of improvement, and for only paying $10 for 18 holes, it was well worth it.
For beginners a great value at $15
Nice layout. This course is way past its prime. Mostly weeds on fairways. Nice greens where there are no brown spots. A nice value for the non serious golfer
Needs some TLC
Course was in terrible shape. Fairways were brown and appear to not be watered. Greens were really in bad shape on most holes. Nice layout in a good setting but really needs some work.
Needs some attention, but worth a play
The course obviously needs some attention, fairways a bit burnt, and greens shaggy. But for $20 including cart certainly worth play. Pretty empty too.
Save your money- - do not play here
I paid $15 to play here.
Im not very picky at all when it comes to where I play, but this was almost unplayable. The fairways were burned, dead and brown. The greens were not much better. Almost every green was 15-25% dead, some had greens it was upwards of 50-75%. The sand was almost cement. It bothered me I spent $15 to play - - i feel sorry for anyone that paid more than that.
Burnt fairways and greens
Not worth $5. Almost every green is lacking in maintenance. They were burnt and had handfuls of of bare spots on almost every green. Fairways were also lacking. Was very disappointed. I'd recommend playing somewhere else. I'm not a very picky golfer when it comes to courses but for 20-30 dollars your are better off playing elsewhere. Very thankful I got a discount on the course through Golf Now and didn't pay the full price to golf here. This course used to be a very nice course to play that was in excellent condition. It needs ALOT OF WORK!
The history of the course is interesting and worth visiting.
Many of the greens are in terrible shape. The course has only a snack stand (hot dogs and snacks) on Mondays and Tuesdays. To their credit, I did see a small staff doing some gardening, but as a whole, it really needs some major attention. It can really be a goldmine with a lot of TLC.
I booked this and got a very good deal. There was an imminent storm and I decided to get there just over an hour early. The man in the golf shop did not want to let us out early, citing that they didn't make any money on this deal and "it just isn't right". I then told him "OK, we can go out to get something to eat and come back". He didn't say anything, so I asked him what he would like us to do. He assigned me a cart and let us go out, but I sensed a sour attitude. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate going out early and getting in all 18 holes, but they have the right not to agree to these deals. I am the customer and service with a smile brings back business more often (even at higher prices).
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Couldnt agree more. Wish i saw this before i booked. It was an incredible disappointment. The fact that the club is charging $29 is absurd. If i paid full price i would have went back and demanded they return my money after the first or 2nd hole.
