Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

Greens need attention otherwise very nice
To my understanding this course was closed for several years and was just recently purchased by the owner of Apple Mountain CC so give it time for the course conditions to improve. The fairways are in decent shape but the greens desire some attention though great course back in the day and given some time it will be again
Getting better
The course has come a long way for being shut down for 2 years. The greens still have a ways to go, but they are going to be good with the right care.
A Beauty in the Mountains
Although the greens can use a little work, this course has a beautiful layout. Fairways were in exceptionally good shape. The greens have some patches that need to be fixed, and some tee boxes can use some work. Overall though, this was a great experience. My experience there may have been enhanced by how well I played too, but I would certainly recommend this course to others. Definitely worth a round.
Course needs work.
Fairways and tee boxes were not bad considering the amount of rain over the past week. However, greens were unplayable with speeds that were extremely slow and a lot of bare patches causing ball to hop with no idea of direction after that. Will definitely not return this year, but will give it another chance next year in hopes of better conditions.
Great place and price. Is coming back.
Mixed foursome of varied skill levels enjoyed a great day on this course
This course has great views
Pace was very good and course was in good shape, but greens need some work.
The greens are trashed and unputtable
Fun layout, with great care and remediation, the course could be GREAT; but, it is not. The greens are truly unputtable. Use your 100 ft putting stroke for a 12 footer.
I would say the fairways were reasonable. The tee boxes are not kept up, and the greens are simply the worst I have ever encountered on any course.
Nice course but needs TLC.
Nice course layout, picturesque setting on a mountainside, but it is unkept. Fairways need mowing and greens are in bad shape. Course needs TLC.
Greens need work
Great layout but the course is not being maintained like it should. Thus the course gets very little play.
What A Shame...
A shame what has happened there. This course has so much potential, and yet every year I play there it just get's worse and worse. I played it on 5-6-13 and 6 of the greens there had NO GRASS on them!!! Yet they seed it, put water on it, and let you hit onto it and walk on it?? The fairways are coming in nicely and the same for most all the tee's. The greens I don't believe will ever come back, no time soon anyway. It seems they are content selling food and drink then maintaining what made Harkers what it was, One of the Best courses in Jersey.. Whether it's money or no talent in the greens keeper position. I hope they get it figured out soon, Because it's a shame, what is happening to this once Great Golf Course
not so good.
Recently I took two co-workers to this course. needless to say they are not very good. I thought this course was under new management so I took a chance. Fairways were okay, some patchy areas, but ok. Greens were awful. they were extremely patchy, which I thought was impossible to have a green look that bad. spots were missing grass. we couldnt finish one hole because the grounds crew were literally raking the green like you see grounds crews do on the infield of a baseball field. Will seriously never play here again.
Course conditions
Mostly all the greens were in bad shape-also water not filled in the ball washers and no drinking water out on the course. No place to eat or drink after the round.
2013...STAY AWAY! No Value! Terrible Condition
First off I am an avid NJ golfer from the area. Harkers has had a woeful past 5 years, to say it went downhill is an understatement.
10 years ago Harkers Hollow was an absolutely amazing, professionally maintained gold course.
3 years ago Harkers was in OK condition. Nothing to write about but playable.
This year(April 2013) the course has officially hit rock bottom and is unplayable. Please save your money. The greens are beyond repairable. The course needs to be shut down and reseeded if it is going to stay open this summer. There is no way to fix this course without shutting it down.
Also, they should call it HACKERS HOLLOW because you will get stuck behind people who have NO idea how to golf or maintain a pace. If we had not cut in front of them, the round would have took 6+ hours judging by where they were when we left.
The owner also owns Apple Mountain so it's no surprise this course is in disarray. Nothing is maintained, the course is a complete mess and a joke. The guy is too cheap to fix it up. The name and reputation is officially ruined. I would stay far away from Harkers and Apple unless the price goes down to about $15-20 for 18 and a cart...
If you're from the area, drive a good 25-45 minutes and go elsewhere. PA has great inexpensive golf courses, and out of warren county you have a lot of options.
Lastly, it is important not to support businesses like this because it will never get better. If you do not golf there, maybe the owner will get a hint and put some money into. The place could be a VERY good golf course with money and labor! Otherwise, STAY FAR AWAY PLEASE!
DO NOT PLAY THERE!!!! THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE COURSE
Sad, gone to ruin, greens are brown and bare! Par 3 course looks better. Have removed ALL of the heritage.... Scharre Run ruined, no more benches, dedicated stones overgrown, driving range looks sad. No wonder they went into bankruptcy
Great Private course turned public and great to play!
Thank goodness the course turned public and gave me a chance to be an "unofficial" member of Harkers Hollow. Great, older course with excellent features that was built in 1923 and still has the charm of the good, old days! Getting back to it's original shape with tight fairways and really fast greens. A must play!
Greens and tee boxes need a lot of work.
The fairways were fine but the greens and tee boxes were awful. The greens had dirt patchs and weeds. Putting on them was ridiculous. On the tee boxes it was hard to find a level area to hit from. Again, a lot of dirt patches and depressions.
Play in a Farmers Field Instead
This was, without a doubt the worst conditioned golf course I've ever played in my life. Most greens had giant bare spots. Most fairways and all tees were just crabgrass. Even the hot deal price is wayyyyyy too much for this dump. Go play in a pasture instead.
This course is one of the worst i've played.
The course has a fun layout, the conditions are the worst i've seen yet. To play this course for $30 is an insult with what you get.
Poor playing conditions & boring layout
Tee boxes were "manicured" crabgrass.
Large sections of several greens were bare.
Patchy turf conditions in fairways.
Poor conditions in sand bunkers.
Layout was boring and uninspired.
Greens are in terrible shape.
Nice layout bur fairways are dotted with bare spots and greens are just terrible.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I belonged to Harkers some years back. I think the reason its the way it is, before the new owner took over it was never mowed, or taken care of. after the club went belly up. Hopefully it will come back.
