Harkers Hollow Golf Club
About
Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

great value, but needs fairway maintenence
Fairways are severely burnt out. Greens are ok. Staff is very nice. Finished 18 in under 3 hours on a Friday afternoon.
Pleasantly surprised
After reading all the negative reviews I expected a dump. Far from that. Steve was a pleasure to deal with. One can see they are doing lots of work on the course mostly on the back nine so far but they are getting there. Rome wasn't built in a day. Greens are FABULOUS !!!!!! second only to my home course Quail Brook. Bit of a ride for my foursome but well worth it. Will definitely be going back soon. Note, to course, please remove the eyesore tennis courts...
the course could be great if they take care of it.
the fairway is really beat up you cannot tell if your on the fairway or out. fairway are dead grass and the bunker had a hard sand.
still needs some work
greens are in good shape, but can't say that about the rest of the course. major issue remains lack of maintenance, burned out fairways, uneven tee boxes. Also, you need to bring your own water as there is no drinking water on the course. They give you a bottle of water- lasts a few holes in the heat. Even the ball washers were dry. Course is OK at special rates but not worth an hr drive. Course was empty on weekday. No interesting holes that you will remember.
Very rude staff
Desk clerk was barely audible and he was rude. Tossed the keys to the cart on the counter. Went to putting green and his sidekick came out. It seemed like he was watching us. We had a 2:30 pm tee time and at 2:15 asked if we could tee off , no one else was around waiting to tee off. He told us he would'nt let us tee off because we had a reduced rate from Golf Now. They seemed mad that we paid less than the usual rate. Definitly not an asset to the golf course. We were thinking of becoming a member but have changed our mind because of his attitude. We are senior citizens who bother no one. Just wanted to play a peaceful round of golf. Ownership should be made aware of the poor performance of its staff and Gol Now should be made aware that the staff seems to resent their reservations.
It's sad to see
The course looks like it used to be great. Amazing layout and good length to it. But.... The course today has the quality of a cow pasture. First, in most cases, you can't tell the fairway from the rough. Second, greens were slow as anything. You could not get a good lie anywhere, even on the tee boxes. Bunkers were terrible, and everything was overgrown. It made the course look ugly. All this course needs is some tlc. It has the potential to be a great track. Plus 78 bucks for two people is outrageous.
I think I expected more..
I was told good things bout Harker's Hollow but overall, I can only say course is average. They say their greens roll at 11 on stimpmeter but that's very inaccurate. Maybe 8 or a 9 on some greens..also, bunkers are poor. Fairways and rough weren't really cut. Tons of clover, dandelions, and other weeds. It just seems they don't do much course maintenance.
Good course for practicing accuracy
Course is not long and honestly, a lot of the holes look the same which is a good thing! Front 9 has generous fairways. Back 9 are a little tighter fairway so use a wood or iron off tee; not a driver.
Sand traps need dressing.
Rough is weedy and rough so it's tough.
Ladies tee's are really absent - mostly in the fairway!
Country Club of the Post-Apocalypse
Playing this course reminds me of what golf would look like after the apocalypse. Nice layout, and as you scan the course, you'll see down trees from Hurricane Sandy (never removed), overgrown flower beds, and beat up tee boxes.....weeds in the fairways, unevenly cut fairways, and greens that roll around 7-8 on the stimp meter. Fairways are rock hard.
We played winter rules in June. We had the course to ourselves on a weekday afternoon in the 80* temperature range. Golf is golf, and for $18 to ride and play 18....not a terrible deal. Play here, and help the management get the revenue to bring this course back to life. A shame to see such a nice layout suffer from neglect.
Course needs upkeep
We were dismayed at the condition. The grass - all over - was exceptionally long. The grass on the greens had seed heads on them. The fairways felt very narrow since the mowing was limited to a center stripe. This could be an interesting course if maintained properly but... This would be a good course if you have someone who has never been on a course before and wants a low pressure outing.
Course is fun to play.
Challenging holes best to play with someone so you dont lose your ball after hitting it. Rough is thick but course is in pretty good shape.
Satisfied with Experience
Course was in good shape. Course is pretty hilly. Most holes are pretty straight. I would go back.
St Andrews Pub and Tea Room
What a surprise when friends invited us to join them for dinner at Harker’s Hollow’s St. Andrews Pub and Tea Room. We knew the restaurants were open and that the public was welcome. What we did not know was the ability of chef Cyle. The ambiance is that of a 1929 golf course in the warmth, friendliness and casualness of the 21st century. The view is gorgeous the course is lush and green. The owners introduced themselves to everyone and the chef visited tables and occasionally served the meals. He asked how we liked our dinners and what suggestions we had. There was also entertainment and wine tasting. We had a bottle of the Los Haroldos Hacienda Oak Cabernet which was unexpectedly good. The best part of the evening flat out was the food. There were 15 in our group so I sampled several appetizers particularly liking the garlic shrimp brochette and the French toasted mozzarella. That was a huge hit with the teenagers. My favorite was the warm spinach and artichoke dip with tomato. Entrees ranged from pub fair to beautifully plated, incredible main courses. It was Friday so I returned to my childhood and had wonderful beer battered fish and chips. Others in our group had variety of entrees. I sampled the crab cakes and chicken murphy both wonderful. There were no negative comments only praise for the chef. It is hard to find your regular dinner spot but in Harmony /Philipsburg this is it.
Bob and Nancy
This course is one of the best in the area.
Greens much improved from last time played. Fairways being worked on.
Like target golf, off cambered fairways, hills and trees, this course has it.
The course starts off fairly easy, and sneaks into some terrain, tight fairways and greens that demanded attention to detail. Definitely will play again.
Great golf course
The only reason I would rate this course a 4/5 (vs. a 5/5) was the condition of the fairways which was "spotty" but overall very playable. Greens were in good to great shape when I played with some exceptions. Overall I loved the course and the challenges it presented. Course requires some "local knowledge" to navigate the "breaks" on the greens, etc. Really loved it. Will definitely play there again.
NICE COURSE
GOOD VALUE and A LOCAL COURSE NICE SHAPE AND GOOD GREENS
niece course
good value conditions are improving greens are good fairways are getting better
good deal, but course needs some work.
Tried a new one and enjoyed, but needs a little work. Bare spots on greens, grass tall, leaves everywhere. Typical fall conditions, with a little less maintained.
This course is on its way back
I have played here back in June and the condition of the course was pretty bad but what a difference no,the greens were great. The fairways and tees were ok but still need attention. They are really doing a good job of getting this really nice layout back in shape..
I wrote this review but must have clicked on the wrong evaluation regarding the staff. They were super friendly.
